HELP with undermoung sink color with off-white cabinets!
Comments (7)Thank you all so much! Palimpsest, what a great idea about the samples from Kohler! I was ready to consider SS as I know most of you suggested, but last night found the GREATEST sink--an apront front white fluted fireclay by Whitehaus. Originally, the only thing I knew about the remodel was that I wanted a sink like that, but then I had abandoned the idea because of cost and the fact that you can't put the garbage under the sink. (Now I'm hoping to make room in the island--the microwave will also be there). But I think my problem was that I just didn't want an undermount of any color. So now the fact that the sink is white and I have off-white cabinets doesn't bother me. That kind of sink is timeless and I am hoping to achieve a somewhat vintage look. I know this sounds insane but I was waking up at night in a sweat worrying over white or biscuit with the undermount and the decision to go with the apron front was truly liberating. I had no idea how stressful the decisions are and we haven't even started construction! I won't even tell you about how hard I looked before I decided on the Yellow River granite! I can't thank you all enough for all your support! It's so nice to have people out there to help you with all of this madness. I promise to post pics as soon as my 22-year-old daughter comes back in two weeks and can help me with that....See MoreWall Paint to go with White Spring Granite?
Comments (7)A caution on grays from recent frustrating experience: gray is not a simple color. It comes in intensities from barely there to blackout. It comes in a mind-numbing variety of under-colors. An individual gray will be very different in different lighting conditions. Why would you bother, you ask? Because if you get the right gray in the right place, it's the perfect backdrop for the rest of the room. In your case, where you've done pretty much all white except for the floors - a bit of yellow, perhaps? - a gray could be just the thing you're looking for. If you have a BM fan deck, look for grays with the same undertones as White Dove. You can also go to the store and look at thiers. Tape chips on the wall. When you think you have it down to some likelies, get sample sizes if available and paint a piece of wall. Or like me, you could just paint the whole room and see how that works out. It only took me 4 tries to get it right in the living room (!!!). Maybe someone here has done a White Dove/White Springs kitchen and has a specific suggestion on a gray to consider. Here's a White Springs/White cab kitchen (please tell me you're not going to be featuring chickens and pigs!) BM suggests Silver Lake goes with White Dove. Silver Lake is actually what we went with in the living room to go with the blue in the kitchen/dining room. It definitely has blue undertones and looks darker on our living room wall than in this sample. Definitely worth considering....See MoreBacksplash Help - Alaska White Granite, Off White Cabinets
Comments (20)Oh my gosh! I'm reading all of your posts right now to my Hubby so he'll know I'm NOT the only one who can't make a decision on a backsplash! LOL I have the white Alaska granite countertops as well. It has been well over a year and I still can't decide! And although I do love them, it's such a hard decision to match them with a BS! I'm so happy I came across all of your posts. I know your struggles! However, hopefully, by now you have found the perfect backsplash for your kitchen countertops! Please post pictures if you have time. I'd really enjoy seeing some of the choices you have made. Karen backsplash less in Florence, Oregon :(...See MoreSoapstone counter, off-white cabinets, floor??
Comments (5)No problem. Cork can be toughened up and the finish refreshed multiple times throughout it's lifetime. But if it isn't for you, then that's not uncommon to hear. For comfort and warmth = sheet linoleum (cork is warmer and more comfortable...but not something you are into). If you want low-maintenance = porcelain tile. If you want durable with a little bit of comfort = vinyl in a stone visual (cork and linoleum are far more comfortable...but to each there own)....See Morekhood
