This reminds me of one time when we decided to start raising ostrich. I worked on an Ostrich ranch for about 3 months to learn the ropes. There was one ostrich that had gotten down and couldn't get up. The ranch would not put her down or allow anyone else to do it. It was summer and the temps. were in the triple digits. After watching the ostrich sit there in the boiling sun for about a week. I decided to give it some water. I put a pan in front of her and filled it up. The ostrich drank, and drank, and drank and when I walked away she was still drinking. When I came back later she was stone cold dead. I felt good about doing what I had done. At least she got to enjoy some water even if it did kill her.

Well, anybody remember this poor clem? Take a look at her now. She's covered with buds, and the first one opened. What do y'all think? I'm thinking Comtesse du Bouchaud. I never did get her in the ground, mostly because I just couldn't decide on a spot for her. I think I'll wait until the late Fall to put her in her permanent home. That will give her lots of time to get settled. I'm also working on a couple more rescues that my friend gave me. They were bare roots potted up in 1 gallon containers. But the rabbits got to them and chewed them down to nubs. He was going to throw them out, but I took them, and one already has a nice green shoot coming up. The other still shows no sign of life, but has a nice little root mass, so I'm not giving up yet. :) Here's another rescue I didn't get a before pic of. It's Ernie I think. It was just a little stick about 6" high with one leaf when I got it the end of May. Bigger pot, some mulch, food and water, and he's coming along nicely, I think. Tzus

These doggie faces who have passed.....Sob! It's so sweet to hear from you all and to hear stories of your kids. I hope that there is a heaven and that we will see them all again. My late Dad, who died on Valentine's Day 2007, was a huge dog lover, and we had Brittanys growing up, but just one at a time that he trained and bird hunted with. Dad was at home under hospice care, sitting in his recliner in their living room. Mum and I were sitting on the sofa. Dad looked up at the ceiling, and said with this look of wonder on his face, 'They have DOGS up there!' Dad was not religious, and the only time he went to church was for a wedding or funeral, so Mum and I were shocked. Hospice had told us that he might say odd things as he neared the end, but when we heard that, we knew he'd be OK. The last picture that I have of Dad is of him laying on a hospital bed in their guest room, with his Brittany, Beau, laying on top of him, cuddling. That's the way a dog lover should spend his last days.

I didn't want to read this because of my fear of how you lost her. I'm glad it was only a temporary physical loss, but still. Bad Dusty! :-) Olychick's post about a friend singing to get her cat home reminded me of today. They just put kibble in the bowls and all all the kittens came running from everywhere. I took a friend to check out some kittens today, they were at a farm and there were about 15! Soooo cute, I was cuddling a bunch of them. I'm not in the market for a kitten......but still. Hard to resist. There were also 2 Aussies and I had a great time playing with them, and sheep in 2 pens.....adults and kids. Man I need a farm! LOL
