Update on my Pity Party. . .

Several of you mentioned that there was something out there that would be perfect for me to wear to the wedding.

You were right!

On Monday the 27th. I went out to get a card, wrapping paper, etc. and went back to Peebles to look again, because that is the closest store to me. Nothing there.

Was going back to Ross, but first went again to Goodwill. As I walked into the store, I turned to go toward the left side, and THERE IT WAS! One dress, hanging on a rack, not even near the dresses. It might as well have had a sign on it that said "Hold for Sue."

I tried it on and yes, that was it! It looks like a two piece outfit, but it isn't. It is one piece with a type of over blouse look. The top is in muted shades of pink, that if you look close has a design of a flower and leaves here and there, and has a small knotted tie on the right hip. Covers all my hippy indiscretions perfectly. The skirt is solid pink and is mid calf length. The label says Greg Michael, but I googled and didn't find a site like that. It looked like it had never been worn.

So I went to the wedding "pretty in pink." That's what the bride said when she saw me. She knew about the search I had been on.

The 6 p.m. wedding was just beautiful, in that romantic setting, lit only by oil wall lamps. There was music by two young men playing euphoniums, which I had never seen or heard before. The ceremony was very traditional, with a beautiful acapella solo by a friend of the bride. She sang The Lord's Prayer that was breathtaking.

The reception was the most FUN reception I've ever been to. The bride and groom each have so many friends, and they all seemed to know this was a perfect marriage. There was so much mingling, joking and laughter. It was such a happy event.

My DGD, my DS's DD, catered the reception and the food was not only delectable to look at but by all the comments, even more delectable to eat.

The weatherman had predicted showers and possible Thunderstorms, but there was neither; even had sunshine part of the time.

The Bride & Groom are on their honeymoon now. I will be seeing pictures when they get back.

Thanks for taking this trip with me. It wore me out, but the happiness I saw made it all worthwhile.

I was just thinking of you yesterday and wondered how it all turned out!
I'm happy it was all great! Sounds like the wedding was fantastic! Love and happiness is what its all about!

I sure know how you feel. Stoney, look at that time as a gift. We don't always get that special extra time with our grown "kids." I know you'll miss him, but be proud of him because he has pulled himself up with love and support from the family, and that is really special. 3-1/2 hours is not so much, and you can see him often. You could even both drive and meet mid-way for an afternoon or whatever. Our sons visit often, but I always feel a tiny bit of sadness in a corner of my heart when they go. Get out your towels..its cryin' time! My trip to the Salvation Army yesterday netted me nothing. Next stop was Goodwill...and I found the Perfect dress...unfortunately it wasn't the perfect size. I was so disappointed when I tried it on! It was a deep cherry-red, short sleeves, with a fullish skirt that fell in soft pleats. The top had the look of a vest, yet dressy looking, it was attached, buttoned down the front and made of some kind of material that looked almost like crochet, but wasn't. It would have been PERFECT! I noted the label "peri petite" and googled it hoping to find that same dress. It was a size 10; I could wear that dress in a size 12. "Peri petite" lead me to a list of scores of places that sell petites, but nowhere did I find that dress. Sizes are screwy anyhow. I have always joked that I can wear a petite, if it is BIG enough. At Penneys etc I can sometimes find a petite14, but not often. I'm short-waisted, narrow shoulders, with the obligatory gut and hips. I looked through my closets and I do have two pairs of nice pants that fit, one sage and the other blue. I have a light rose colored dressy blouse that I can wear with the sage. I'm going out again on Monday to keep looking. Sue, thanks for posting the link; my brain was deflummoxed. Jane, I live in Augusta County, about an hour and a half from Richmond;.I really don't want to tackle that trip and the "big city" right now. Also, my DD doesn't have another day off til this coming Wednesday, and I don't drive distances any more. Thanks for the link to Woman Within. I saw some things there that I liked and they have a petite plus category. I'll go back when I have time and check it out better. Anne, thanks for the offer, that was really sweet. Lu, we don't have a Jonathan Richards here. Lisa, I'll go back to Ross in hopes they have gotten in some new things. You have all been kind and sympathetic, and I appreciate all the suggestions. JNM, sorry to hear she's BAAAACK!!!! I know your sadness, it's heartbreaking. I'm learning to not have ANY expectations for BM. No disappointment. Well, not for me anyways. My husband called to say goodnight to SD tonight. He had to leave a message. SD called his cell phone while he was in the shower and I answered. We've been having a difficult summer, with her ignoring me most of the time. Well, I told her dad's in the shower but she can call back in ten minutes. She says okay, thanks. I tell her "I love you" and she happily replies "I love you too". So, I go to the shower and tell hubby she's gonna call back in a few minutes. She never called back and as I told DH about her call, it crosses my mind, what if her mom heard her say she loves me? Did she catch heat for that or maybe let her mom think she was talking to her dad so she couldn't call back because she'd have to tell her mom it was me. I could use some of that wine too.... Some people will never 'get it'!!! ((hugs)) Stay strong!!!

My Aunt passed in August..her services at gravesite are this Monday..her Grandaughter flew in from Arizona last night and got a hotel room in town..how in the world did I have this in my date book for NEXT week..not that I really have to do anything except show up Monday morning for services and Monday evening for family dinner at a local resturant..but still I would have liked to offer to host them for a luncheon today....lol...not happening. My Aunt Jean who passed is the last of that generation (my moms side) they all moved here from London years ago. Now its just a few from this generation and some younger ones...anyway I think my cousin told me the wrong date and its just like her to be scatterbrained..so I'll let her do the hosting which is what I just told her on the phone..lol..she took it well. You would think with all the laying around I've done I'd be full of energy..not. I think I need to move my old bones around a little today. I won't do much but just a little in case my scatterbrained cousin decides to bring my cousin from Arizona in for a surprise visit..yes she would do that to me. Lol. Hope you are all well today.

Who cares where it came from...

Glad you had a good time..Hope this young couple make it work....

This month will be 43 years for us. And even though neither of us are perfect....we both still "like" each other. (and of course love is in there too...it's easy to love , a little harder to like...LOL)

Oh Sue, I am so happy to hear it all turned out so well for you finding the perfect dress as well as the wedding and reception being so perfect.

I was the one who had suggested Goodwill or a thrift store. Had you checked them or thought of checking them before I suggested it?...just curious

Amazing that you found the perfect dress for just $4!

Wow, what a shopping coup, Sue! I'm so happy that you found something you liked and you'll never forget how PLEASED you were when you got your hands on it. I'm so glad you had a wonderful time and looked and felt so nice and that the bride and groom are meant for each other, that adds a lot to a wedding! lol You know what I mean.

I am so glad you found the perfect outfit for the wedding. It doesn't matter how much an outfit costs or where it comes from as long as it what you want. It sounds really pretty. It does sound like it was a very nice wedding.

Thrilled that you found exactly what you were looking for. And also that you found it in a store that many of us are very familiar with....good old "GW".

Just wondering.....were you happy with how your hair turned out? (although I already know that it was great).

Please post a couple of pics of yourself. We'd love to see the whole package....lol.

That's the best news I've heard all day....So happy you found your "pretty in pink dress"...And we do want to see those pictures...As I said before, I've gotten a lot of my clothes at the Goodwill shop and have always been satisfied....It's the clothes, not the price or where you get it.....

JustLinda, yes my hair turned out fine, and the girl fluffed it up so all the white showed, and I like it that way. Of course after sleeping on it, being out in the wind, and being hugged a lot at the wedding, I don't know what it might look like in the pictures.

Sue, your mention of the GW did remind me that I had gone there back in February I think, and I had forgotten about that. But I did go to the GW again, maybe on the day I went to the SA, and that is when I found the red dress I liked, but it was too small.

Then that final trip to the GW on the 27th was when I found the pink one.

I think this will be the last wedding in my family; at least I hope so!

Sue, Guess where DH and I shopped today???? He said he needed long sleeved shirts to wear when he works in the yard...He has skin cancer and really has to protect his arms...So we went to our Salvation Army store and he ended up with 8 very nice shirts and I got 3 sweaters (which I didn't need) and it was all under $15.00......
