Just my opinion, I wouldn't install permanent sconces around a TV because if and when the day comes and that specific TV is not there, the sconces will make no sense.

Now if you want to center the TV on the wall and then place the sconces on that wall like they are there to accomodate anything else that might find it self centered on that wall, then that would make more sense. Am I making sense? I hope so.

In your photo I really can't tell if the TV is centered on that wall or not.

Sconces are generally placed at about 64 or so inches from the floor. That's where the bottom of mine are.

Perhaps some can lights in the ceiling would make more sense in the long run. Sconces will limit what you can do with that wall in the future. Or would it make any sense in the room to have a ceiling fixture for general lighting?

It is hard to tell in the picture, but the TV is centered on that portion of the wall. That is one of the longest continuous walls in the living room. The TV is wall mounted so it isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Previously, there was a console and mirror in this location and the sconces would have worked there as well.

Are you wanting them for lighting or just to put something on the wall? How about pillar candle sconces if lighting is not the reason? No need to wire things up or try to hide cords.

If you keep things in place once you are happy and don't switch things around a lot, sconces will be a good option. You just have to select one that doesn't look too bathroom-like.

If you are a furniture re-arranger it may not be a great idea. ( I actually used sconces with a client [1] because of space limitations and [2] she liked to move furniture around and the sofa only worked in one spot. She didn't care much about good placement: she would put it half in front of the window, blocking the steps, whatever. Once we put the sconces in at least the sofa had to stay where it belonged.

I am attaching a pic of the wall from head on so it makes more sense. I spent 400 bucks getting the TV mounted on the wall here, so it ain't moving anytime soon. The room really only works this way. Even if I switched things, I would put a console on the center of that wall and the sconces would still make sense there.

They are primarily for lighting purposes--it's a happy accident that they would be perfect for that spot. I just think sconces give such a built-in and custom look when done correctly. I really would like recessed lighting added, but I don't think it will work they way the ceiling is right now.

that wall is about the size of a wall I had at my last house. I had sconces on it. I would position them equal distance from the side of the TV and the wall, on each side. I love sconces and use them a lot for everyday lighting. I hate overhead lighting so all my other lighting gets used all the time.

I was thinking I should hang the sconces so the top of the shade was even with or just slightly below the top of the TV. I will have to re-measure to see how many inches high it would be. I was thinking of looking at some dimensions of ones that I like and then putting masking tape on the wall so simulate the size for placement purposes.

I want a sconce that will take at least a 60 watt regular style light bulb. Don't want a candelabra style as I need the extra light badly. Wish I had room to put a double light sconce on each side.

You know that last picture is great (love your laptop open to GW). Actually what I mean with great is that the previous picture made my mind think there were a lot more wall space to the right.

I would do the sconces then, but be careful how you place them. You need to stagger them for things to look right. If you put it all along the line of the TV things will look a little off. Not sure how to explain this one, but think of it as placing accessories. If you line them all up vs. grouping or staggering. What generally looks more pleasing to the eye?

I'd suggest placing paper the size of the sconces to get an idea of how the placement would look.

How about swing arm lamps? These are convertible to hardwire

Just wanted to say that I think the sconce idea is great. It will bring some silvery color to that side of the room and add more interest and polish to the area around the TV. I look forward to seeing what you install.

OT,but just wanted to say that I like your arrangement of items below the TV much better than what you had shown in another thread.

I'd prefer an aged brass finish on the sconces -- not sure why, but seems to better relate to the Mitchell Gold casegoods.
