I'm not sure I understand why the wall on the left can't have any furniture. Does this mean you want to place furniture about 4' away from the wall about to create a walking path behind it?

Hmmm, just thinking aloud.
15' wide minus 4' for walking space = 11' of floor space for furniture. Chairs and sofas will take up about 3'-4' in depth. 11" minus 4' minus 4' = 3'. You have plenty of width in the roon for furniture.

I'm thinking you could have a sofa facing the TV and a chair or recliner on each side of the sofa. A coffee table in front of the sofa; an end table next to one of the chairs and floor lamp next to the other. This would give you surfaces to put things on, plus light to read by.
Or you could do a sofa and love seat in an L shape with one chair backing up to the traffic path.

One question, if you're going to leave a pathway because of the way you place your furniture, then your furniture won't be centered in the room. Where are you placing the 52" TV? Centered on the wall? Or centered with the furniture that will be facing it?

Congratulations on your bump out, great improvement to your space attached to the kitchen and sure that room will get great use. Seems like the wall with the door to the living room would be a good candidate for a long sofa instead of built in shelves? What kind of window treatments will you be using? Do you want certain pieces (sofa, love seat, recliners, wing chairs, etc.)?

RC Willey has a nice (free) little application for room design and you can save your rooms there. I have my whole house saved, although mine is not spatially correct, you can set it up with specific measurements. I found it very helpful in setting up all my rooms.

I was thinking of the same furniture configuration, with one couch along the window and another perpendicular to it - with a table in between them. The a big square coffee table- wide plank wood, dark, with a ledge below so I can store my current magazines and catalogs.

Perhaps a jute rug to finish - although I have to think more about this since my cats will have a field day with anything I put there.

I can then take stock and see what else I can add. Unfortunately my Grandfather's non-motorized 1922 Singer sewing machine won't have a place in the new room, although I'll reserve that decision until after the basics are in.

I am pretty sure I will need two couches (no sectional - we have one in the basement) but want to make sure I have considered all my placement options beforehand.

We planned to put the TV in the center...there's really no other option outside doing a corner piece which we've already jetisoned. Do you have another suggestion?

I am planning natural woven roman shades for each bottom window. I still have to select the actual material since I want privacy but also want it to look good from the outside.
The left wall is a traffic lane, so I cant put any furniture there unless I dramatically change the furniture config and builtins.

I'm not sure. I was thinking maybe that I would measure exactly where the sofa facing the TV would be located and then place the 52' TV on the wall directly centered in front of the TV.

But now that I think about it, the center of the wall is about at that point anyway. So don't pay attention to what I was thinking.

Will the built-in's go from wall to wall?

Yes, the built ins will be wall-to-wall and the centered TV will be fine for viewing. It will be almost dead center to the couch that is facing it.

That door on the left may pose a problem if you have the sofa in middle and chairs on each side, but I think it could work. Your distance for the tv to the sofa is like mine and should work out fine. I think overall a sofa in front of tv with coffee table in front and chair on each side, or maybe a loveseat along window side and chair on door side might be great.

I would put a large couch on the end wall, tables and lamps on either end, ottoman in front. Pair of overstuffed, comfy chairs in front of the window with table and lamp between. Single chair or chaise on left wall with floor lamp beside it that has its own table. TV mounted on the wall to the right of the kitchen counter in built-in cabinets.

Or same configuration for couch and chairs in front of windows, but mount tv on left wall in cabinetry. Pair of upholstered ottomans tucked under a sofa table in front of kitchen counter wall for extra seating if needed.

No way would I use up that whole end wall with built-ins unless I needed that much storage.
