Laura, forget the "galloping horse" test! I wouldn't have noticed if I was plodding by on an old plow horse. It's cute, fun and you should name it "Determination!"

Laura, it's really great! And once it's finished you'll never know the "mistakes" are there. There must be typos in the pattern to have so many rows that don't fit together. Like, everywhere it was supposed to say 1-1/2" it says 1-1/4" or something like that.

It is very cute - and as some have said, you don't really notice the little differences unless they are pointed out. Quilting can sometimes be an adventure, that's for sure, but the end product is worth it!

Very cute. Did the pattern come out of the quiltmaker magazine? I know I have a back issue with this pattern in. I liked it then and even more now that I have seen yours. One good thing is you're the ONLY one that would know the pieces didn't go together right because it looks great.

GuaraLady -- I like that name -- Determination!

Sue, it's regular piecing -- the cows and fences were easy. The trees probably would've benefitted from paper piecing.

Ultimately, I don't think there were actual typos in the pattern. It was explained in a very confusing way, IMO.

For the fences, there were similar sizes -- say cut a set of pieces for one row that are 5.75" and a set for another row that are 5.5." I'm wondering now if I got them mixed up. (But I had the right quantity for each row. Who knows...)

I have also noticed a VERY STRONG URGE on my own part to "cut a little too big" and "sew a little too scant" for fear that the "correct" size will really end up too small. I ended up with oversized trees that way... And maybe too long fences. Though I don't think I overcompensating THAT much.

Bottom line -- if I do this pattern, or one like it, again, I will take the time (no matter how painful) to calculate out what size the finished blocks SHOULD be so that I can verify my work as I go.

I didn't want to deal with the math for all those pieces, the sizes of which were listed by fabric color not block, but now I wish I had!

I do like it though! The cows will have tails when I'm done and I may embellish with a sunflower here, a crow there...

I love this pattern. I have it in one of my books and yours is the first one I have actually seen done. I love your fabrics and colors. I know this took alot of time cause I have seen the pattern and considered it myself. You are very BRAVE!

It is a great quilt. If they were perfect and symmetric and teh same size, it would look rather boring. Have you ever seen two trees or two cows that are the same exact size?

That is the cutest pattern, Laura! You've done a wonderful job.

It's projects like these where I decide beforehand to be "regularly irregular" - then if I make a mistake it is not nearly as noticeable. I do that planned irregularity alot in my free motion quilting! Ha!

Laura, I think you've done an exceptionally good job with this quilt. In one of my first quilt classes, the teacher said, "If it doesn't fit, I 'make' it fit!" and that's been my motto ever since. And, with row quilts, I don't think it really matters, does it? I love your cows and trees and fences!

From one cow lover to another,i love it.If you hadn't told us i never would have seen it .It all looks completely natural to me.You never see 2 snowflakes alike,and i've never seen 2 trees or cows exactly alike either.Looks great,so continue on!!! LOL Like you need me to tell you that!!!

I think it looks perfect. I haven't seen the pattern, nor do I want to. Maybe you should create a better pattern for yourself! I think if it was symmetrical, it wouldn't look as nice. If you feel like making a couple more, I'll take em...LOL

Well, it's just adorable, and no one will notice the "design differences" (so quit pointing them out!) LOL I really love the pink and burgandy checkerboard - will that go around the entire quilt? And did you tell us where to get the pattern?

Ally, the top is now done and to be quilted soon! And yes the checkerboard goes ALL around it. And it's HUGE!

I originally was going to use something other than pink but decided to stick with the pattern colors and I like it too. I'm making one for me to keep and have a different "pink" that I like even better.

The pattern is from Pam Bono's "Quick Rotary Cutter Quilts (For the Love of Quilting)."

You will all be proud to know that I am NOT going to point out the "flaws" to the recipient! (It's for my family reunion art raffle). I only tell you guys because I feel we are "collaborating" on things and learning from each other.

BUT, with help from this forum and my DH's eye-rolling, I'm getting much better at not pointing discrepancies out to friends/family when I give/show them quilts. Especially if it's a gift -- once you point a flaw out it may bug them and they might otherwise never have noticed!
