Who has white fantasy granite?

We have picked this for our kitchen (after being one of the many people obsessed with carrara marble and compromising with my husband on the white fantasy because he cant take the etching)and I have gotten quite nervous recently because the fabricator and supplier both consider it a marble because it is so fragile. They say it even stains like marble. They will put it in but we have to sign off on a disclaimer about it being this way.

Does anyone have this in their kitchen or have any experience with this? We are building our home and are limited in our choices of suppliers. I have looked all over the yard and white fantasy is the only thing I think even comes close. I have read the posts about the quartzite bianco and wonder if it would be more durable? Then again, getting it might be an issue anyway!

On a time crunch too!! HELP!!

It is more durable than regular marble (ex. carrara) but not as durable as a true granite. Kind of in the middle. I would recommend to reseal it more often than granite (every 8-12 months) to be on the safe side. I think you will be fine using it in a kitchen setting, I've had people use it in a kitchen. Are you able to test a sample at home? Isn't granite pretty durable against staining even if it is light in color? Sorry I can't be of much help. My Delicatus White granite hasn't been installed yet. But I will be interested to read the comments that others post. I searched White Fantasy granite and it sure resembles marble! I hope it works out well for you!

I have Simply White cabinets, Simply White walls and Simply White trim....uhm, I guess I have a white house! The color tends towards a yellower-white, and it is quite warm. When used in large amounts, it tends to still look quite white. I think Metrpoloitan Home did a Simply White home in Seattle that was stunning, but modern. These are all Simply White. We recently purchased (and are loving!) our White Macaubus Quartzite counters. I read everything I could get my hands on beforehand, and when we went to choose slabs, I had an old iPhone, extremely sharp tweezers, a pocket knife, a small Phillips screwdriver, and a small ziplock bag of sliced lemons in my coat pocket. I scratched, scratched some more, repeatedly scrubbed with lemon, etc. Discretely, of course : )) I originally was going to bring an empty baby food jar as someone recommended, but having recently replaced my ancient, broken iPhone 4S, that glass worked very well. Some stone places will really know their rock, but IMHO, many times the sales person or the guys moving the slabs around really don't know any more than you or I, so read Karin MT's many posts and test, test, test.

Your kitchen actually sounds pretty light to me with white cabinetry and other white accents at eye level. If you are feeling it is dark, then you really need to address lighting concerns before anything else. Be sure you are using under-cabinetry lighting with your new layout, and address any overhead lighting that might also be of benefit to you. I am getting a sample, I hope! I just was curious to see if anyone out there was living with it yet! I feel lke after all my research quartzite might be a little more durable but Im not sure. I also get the vibe that fabricator/suppliers make it seem much worse that it is.
My husband and I are very clean, careful cooks and we would take care of it. Its just such a big decision, I am nervous that I will regret getting something thats delicate.

By the way, this is my first post here, I posted this twice by accident, sorry!!

tvjazz...I was getting the same vibe from the supplier about the granite I am going with...that it was fragile to work with. When I showed it to my contractor, he said , "No problem." He has a fabricator that he trusts can work with anything. My point here is, maybe you need a fabricator who is more comfortable with your choice.

Haven't yet lived with them as we are not yet moved in, but they seem very durable so far. My testing showed no etching. See link below for comments about fabricating.

Kitchen Addict- I totally agree with you about the fabricator, but our builder will not let us switch. This is who they use and we have to use. My husband has been dealing with them and they have been so unpleasant on top of everything else. They know they are getting the business and just dont care how they treat us!

Firsthouse- thanks for the info, I hope we dont have etching on our test, but that makes me hopeful!
