Staging your home with art: a small investment with big returns

Framed artwork can bring new life to old rooms. Putting up tasteful framed decoration takes little effort and instantly creates a ambiance of sophistication, taste and class in an otherwise ordinary room.

When you show off your space to potential buyers, they'll be affected by the details of their surroundings even if they aren't aware of it. If they see blank walls, their impression of the space may be cold or stark while if it's decorated with beautiful classic artwork, they'll have a very different, more positive impression.

So, while I highly recommend staging your home or office with works of art, you have to be careful when you choose to hang on your walls.

A safe bet is museum pieces that have stood the test of time. Selections from big name impressionist painters such as Renoir or Degas may or may not look familiar to a visitor, but they are unlikely to offend anyone. Unless you are catering to a very specific clientèle, you want to stay away from the ultra-modern artwork. The goal in selecting this wall artwork is to compliment your room and bring in a sense of good taste.

No, this doesn't mean that your artwork has to match the colors in your sofa, or curtains. What you do want to pay attention to is that the art is classic (probably, the original is hanging in a large museum), and that it is a high quality rendition. No thin, dented, cracked or scratched dull frames. Bright un-faded imagery, and real matting around the imagery are also important. Posters are a definite no-no, even framed! A great example of the kind of artwork that can help you sell your house is on http://www.curbly.com/ArtCollectorsGuild/photos/25791-Artcollectorsguild-com-framed-artwork

This link will show you some great before and after shots of rooms that have been enhanced with tasteful framed decorative art.

The actual online gallery where you can buy these artworks is artcollectorsguild.com. They do require membership to purchase the artwork, but it's quite affordable and well worth the investment because if you think about it, a few artworks on your wall is much more cost effective (and less work) than re-painting your room.
