LOL I just got to thinking that maybe Emancipation Day and Fireman's Field Day is in August around the Civic Holiday. So many names for different holidays - my old brain can't keep up. LOLOL I don't know why that just came to me. I was sitting in the kitchen working on the NY Times crossword puzzle.

Happy Victoria Day, Anne. I'm the fellow forum member who once posted back and forth with you about some memories of growing up in Windsor.

I think I DO have a memory of calling this day Dominion Day in the past. (or are we both nuts, lol) Maybe it was before we got our own flag, in the days when we flew the Union Jack?

Did you go to the girl guide camp when Mrs. Boudreau or Mrs. Parks were the leaders? (or Commondants or whatever) Was it near Malden Rd.?

I'll tell my daughter to check out the riverfront since she lives on campus really close to Riverside. Anyway, Happy Victoria Day!

LOL The camp was on Malden Road and we slept in tents. I remember how cold it was. We used make hunters stew for supper - hamburger meat and veggies wrapped in tin foil and dropped buried in a hole with hot coals ontop. LOL

I don't remember the camp leaders but I remeber my pack leaders. My cousin is a Girl Guide Commisioner or was for a long time and I helped at one of her winter Girl Guide camp near Orangeville. We almost got killed on the highway driving home that weekend when her car hit black ice twice and we spun. After the second spin I refused to get back into the car with her. LOL

Happy Victoria Day!

Surprisingly, we had a beautiful Victoria Day! Normally it's freezing and raining or snowing!!! But today it was sunny and close to 20ºC! We went for a long drive today, saw a ton of icebergs, ate at a restaurant on the way home and had a really nice day.

How nice that you had a fine day, Casey, out driving and enjoying the icebergs.

Wasn't July 1 Dominion Day?

Can't you just see Anne hitch-hiking home from near some village in southern Ont, 'cause she was scared to ride with her cousin, the Girl Guide Gal who doesn't drive well on icy road surfaces??

You'll have to get one of those ear-muff style noise blockers that the tractor drivers (and chain-saw users) use to reduce the noise that hurts their hearing to help Loki reduce the trauma that Firecracker Days bring, Anne.

It rained yesterday, so I still haven't got more garden planting done, and the 24 May weekend which is the time when many do theirs has come ... and is rapidly in the process of going. Chilly and windy, here as well.

Friends came and dug me out of bed about noon ... so we had a nice visit ... can you feature me dragging pants on over my skinny legs while running to answer the door? Maybe not that skinny, as a while ago when readng an article dealing with the BMI (Body Mass Index) related to overweight, they judged me to be overweight, according to their calculations. And here I'd thought that I was quite trim, thank you very much!

I always thought July 1 was Dominion Day too.

LOL I thought Dominion Day was Canada Day as well but after I posted that but wasn't sure. They have got to quit renaming our holidays. LOL

Casey, the icebergs must have been spectacular. I have been watching the news reports about them and how abundant they are this year.

I did get into a car with people I didn't know Ed after refusing to get back into the car with my cousin. They drove me all the way to Brampton with my cousin following us in her car. I was never so relieved to find our Father Steve (my 2nd cousin) visiting my Aunt and Uncle. I told him that my cousin almost got us killed but there must have been a guardian Angel watching over us. Those two wipe outs were the closet I ever came to death but somehow when the car stopped spinning we ended up in a driveway facing the opposite direction on a busy highway when driveways were few and far between on that road. I just remember how terrible traffic was that day going in the other direction.

Loki has just calmed down from the fireworks tonight. He is still hearing the odd one now and then. When he tried to climb onto my lap tonight he scratched my arm big time so I made him lie on his bed and not move. He keeps looking up at the window when he sees a flash.
