Happy 142nd birthday Canada! Thanks Calamity J. - Happy Canada Day to you and other Canadians as well. Sunnyca, I think most or all towns and cities have some type of celebration today. Even in our rural area there is always a big celebration at a local historical park with entertainment, various activities, and food. We don't go but they have a lot of things planned for children so IMO it's mostly for families with young children. Our adult "kids" who live in large cities always go with their kids. My DH hangs a large flag from the verandah.

lol TM - they are called Facinators, and are quite controversial even in the UK. Did you see the one that one of Fergie's daughters wore to their wedding? It was referred to as the 'toilet seat', and she sold it on eBay, raising quite a bit of money for a charity!! Nancy.

Canucks here in Texas! :) Happy Canada Day, okay eh! Break out the butter tarts ((raisins and/or nuts? soft and runny or "hard" -- the great controversy in Canadian baking LOL!)), Nanaimo bars -- and my personal favorite -- tortiere (lots of cinammon and allspice and a mix of pork and beef (veal) with a dense crust)! And listen to Loreena McKennitt! :) Jan at Rosemary Cottage (who would just love some of food mentioned above!!)

Many years ago when we were traveling, found ourselves entering Canada on July1st. People at the border were so nice and invited us to hot dogs etc later if we were still around. Traveling with BIL and wife and she was going thru stopping at every Walmart she found stage. Of course everything was closed except some of the larger restaurants and DH and I loved it, but sister in law was so mad because ""HER""walmarts were closed. I thought it was funny, but she kept getting madder until DH finally said something, then she shut up and pouted. DH and I were even invited to bar b ques for eating. I had a great time so sorry she didn't. Happy Canada Day to all Marie from ND

I feel exactly the same socks. I think your country doesn't need to be made great. I think it is. I don't confuse politics with the people. After all I allowed one of your American sons to steal my sister away. ;-). Your country has taken great care of her and their child and their grandchild.

While it was an accident of birth that made us Canadian rather than a citizen/resident of some other country ... we are thankful for our good fortune.

We are thankful for our freedom to build our lives as we feel appropriate, without the need to watch our mouth, our step and our choice of friends lest we make some dictator and his cohorts unhappy.

Many of us have a measure of respect and affection for our fellow citizens and the communities we share and feel it important to nurture them and leave them better for our children.

Also to work with the people of other nations to work toward a world community where we can build increasing respect and trust.

Maybe the corona virus showing us that we are all in the same boat may help us to be more willing to work together.

Let us, as we celebrate alone, be thankful for our good fortune and rededicate ourselves to building a country of which we can be thankfully proud, folks.

Some of us feel that, in today's world, democracy is at risk and feel that we should work toward strengthening it ... and our freedom, as well.

Good wishes for having a great year ahead, fellow Canadians.

And similar good wishes for you, our valued neighbours to our south, as you celebrate your country and its people in a few days.

I stole my DH from Canada, but I bring him back for a visit a few times a year . . . Except this year. Hoping that his brother is in a “circle” with their mother so he can help her set up for Zoom!
