Learning about stuff

I learn a whole lot here about different customs and foods in different countries or areas of our country. Is it as interesting to you as it is to me?

There are a lot of things I'd like to know, but some of them I'm afraid would become political--for instance, do other countries have something comparable to Social Security? And questions about the educational systems in different parts of our country and foreign countries.

I just wanted to thank everyone who posts. You are a living, breathing encyclopedia. The best lesson I've learned is there's more than one way to look at different things (and that butter tarts are a "have to have" during the holidays). :-) You guys are the greatest friends!!

Yep you're hooked! Next you'll be making sauerkraut like the rest of us. I have to tell you the marmalade is the best. I've had it on toast every morning. I've got to make some before I run out. RR makes it look so easy. This sounds stupid but I have to find some time to cook. I haven't even had time to cook a 30 minute meal. Thank you all! Mtn, yes! Your suggestion was perfect for a quick getaway! I really really need to start researching possible places to get reasonably priced art mementoes while traveling. I do look for things while on trips but really don’t have a direction and often end up trying to find something in touristy areas, without luck. I should have at least bought a small framed butterfly here http://www.butterflypeople.com/ You cannot tell by the pictures how lovely these are in their translucent magic unless you see them in person. Although I still haven’t given meditation a real try I have to say that just walking into a full gallery of this art form with the soothing music in the background puts one into a zone. The company I work for just replaced my old phone with a new one yesterday, a Motorola RAZR plus they gave me a wireless Bluetooth device for hands-free talking. The RAZR is much nicer than my old phone. It has a camera, Bluetooth capabilities and probably other things I will need to learn. I VOWED to myself that I would read the manual (in fact all manuals for anything I buy in the future) cover to cover. That should really improve my learning curve. :-) Jodi-

I won't be much help, but I am not familiar with this concept at all...it sounds ideal though. I would love this. I found this photo which sounds like the layout you are describing. I love it! I do wonder if it is a lot of work though to have to dry everything off every time? I'd be afraid of mildew around the bottom seal of the tub if you didn't dry thoroughly. I could not do it where I live out in the country as we are on well water which has a very high mineral content and would really leave a terrible look on my fixtures of deposits. If you can do it, I think it would be pretty neat, but just not sure how well it works? Another easy way to find stuff out is just to google the question. You can write a question right into the search window..google is amazing that way. I learn so much from just doing that to all kinds of questions from the trivial to the sublime!

When I traveled abroad I was surprised to find out I enjoyed the culture exchange as much as I did the location and the wild life.

I hear you Patti....the stuff you learn from other people may not be 'factual', but the experiences that we share with them are real learning experiences. My DD became friends with a Japanese-Korean student last year while living in a 'boarding house' and it is surprising(?) how our university systems sort of take advantage of those $$$$ our foreign guests pay out to attend our schools. I assumed (THAT word) that we took their money and treated them better than we do. The student is a sweetheart, and has really paid her way without the kind if "exchange" student support like meeting American families and seeing the real environment outside of the university. She graduates next month and goes back to Japan and I hope that her total experience will have been memorable. DD has made a dear friend...I hope forever friend.
