Tales of the Chrome 'Heron'

Picking my cabinets was a no brainer. Picking the flooring was a bit harder (ok, a lot harder). Finding the Granite difficult only because I had a hard time tracking down the stone I knew I wanted.

The faucet, has been my most difficult decision to date. I wanted functional & pretty. I didn't want chunky. I was happy with the 2 handled but no spray set I had picked up a few years ago until the kitchen forum members opened my eyes to all a good faucet should be! That definitely includes spray.

I've waffled,procrastinated & finally convinced myself to pro-rate the cost over years of enjoyment and have ordered the Kalia pull-down faucet that I saw in the showroom and haven't been able to get out of my mind. It's pretty, functional, doesn't take up a large footprint and looks like a stately chrome heron.

I'm content!

I love herons and I love your faucet. My faucet was inspired by a lighthouse--according to the manufacturer. I see your heron, and if I squint I might be able to see the lighthouse. : )

OOH very pretty and it seems too stately to be "just" a heron, (which I love), but I'm seeing elegant swan! ;-)

When I bought my faucets my neighbor said the same thing..."think of it as paying for it over the next 20 years, then you won't feel so bad about the price!" I agreed and I'm glad you were able to go for it, enjoy, it's beautiful!

The alligator came from a grardn store. I am not sure if it really works. Herons are persistent and there are hundreds in South Louisisna at this time breeding. We have a small rookerie two miles away.

Celtinne, thanks for the good wishes. :) I don't actually set my own to my moods, but when it's being Eeyore, I do sometimes go and change it. Eeyore is cute (and my favorite second to Pooh, really), but his outlook can be a downer. :) Great haiku. :) Efs, I knew about the no going back for the spray when I bought the Karbon, but it was about the only practical choice for my prep sink and how I was going to be using it. It annoyed me for a few weeks, but it's no big deal. Then, like anything else, I got used to it. Not the kind of used to that's a constant annoyance, but the kind of used to where that's the way it is and I don't notice anymore. The annoyance that doesn't go away is that it won't spray (dribble) on a very low amount of water.

I think most people assume that the Edison filament bulbs provide enough light since you see them everywhere. But they aren't meant for task lighting over an island. There's a discussion in Home Decor now about those bulbs. I copied this from Brushworks' post: A decent amount of work light is about 800 lumens minium. The Edison incandescent averages less than 350 lumens. The Edison LED isn't much better at 450 lumens. Great for lanterns or exposed bulb application. The Edison Vintage LED temperature is 2200 which is slightly above candle light. Rejuvenation recommends using the satin etch or opal shades with regular bulbs.

I never worry about getting it again. I don't believe I've ever encountered a better living example of the descriptor "frequently wrong but never in doubt". Olliesmom, as you of course know one certainly can be reinfected with COVID, although your statement may be true that you simply don't worry about getting it again. Which of course is your privilege, as is the case with any and all incorrect and ignorant beliefs. DLM, like you my life consists of making daily risk/reward decisions on what's worth doing. The meeting I mentioned? An honor society at which I was nominating someone I respect deeply and wish to recognize. This Friday we're joining my son and DIL for dinner at a local resort (hopefully seated on the patio) where we are giving them a weekend babymoon. I went on that beach trip with my daughter and son in law this summer. OTOH for me it's not worth the risk to go out to restaurants right now. Or hang out with my neighbors in close indoor quarters. Or go to a movie. Or take off my mask in the sparsely populated gym when I work out a few times weekly--it's worth it to me to try to stay fit, but not enough to joyfully quit masking up even though as of Monday that's no longer mandatory. I'm perhaps foolishly trying to limit my exposure to only activities that mean the most to me. Whether my luck will run out, as your husband's did DLM, is a conundrum. But I surely hear and understand you....seeing beloved family is probably the most important reason of all to get out in the world today.

Debsan, my husband just walked by and asked me why I was squinting! I said I was looking to see a lighthouse. He just shook his head & continued on his way. Obviously he is not TKO.

lesmis, we don't have swans in our area, but often do have a heron on the banks of the canal across the road from our house. When standing motionless it really does look like that faucet. Tall, straight & his long long beak pointing down. But you're right the curve of the neck is very swanlike, and does sound so much more genteel.

I would have loved the stainless steel but at $200 more I couldn't justify it even with pro-rating! Oh, and the chrome is bright enough to be the light of a lighthouse!

Katie, I may have confused into thinking I have the same faucet. Mine is the Brizo Balleza. I liked the simplicity, but the color was what made me choose it.

timber.j: Thanks. I am quite smitten (and I never thought I'd say that about a kitchen faucet).

debsan: The Brizo Balleza does look like a lighthouse. It is pretty. Did you get that lovely copper? & the soap dispenser.

My Kalia does not come with a soap dispenser. I'm not sure it is worth the bother trying to find a stand alone model to go with the faucet.

Katie, Thanks for the compliment. Bought the faucet off ebay for half of the retail price. It came with the soap dispenser, but it's not installed. I can see the lighthouse, but don't think I would have found it on my own. I did choose the bronze, because it was more like the copper accents in the kitchen. The color was a major factor for me.
