Time to start finishing son's friend's mom's tablecloth
Comments (11)The motifs are connected as you make them. She connected the motifs in a kind of jagged or incomplete circle and used the cloth and laundered it. I have to mend it where thread has torn in the chains of "webbing" that connect the motifs. I bought cream thread, and I hope it won't look too bad. I will mark her motifs in colored thread and make them the center of the rectangular cloth. I may skip the tea dying and let him decide if he wants to do it and include instructions. I ordered thread, found one that will work, made sample motifs and washed and dried them to shrink to see how well I can match her gauge. She crocheted very, very tightly, so I am using a much smaller hook and making the stitches as tight as I can. I am now ready to go. Took a break to make some Baby Surprise Jackets and a layette for a new baby. I will let you know how it is going....See Moremy friend is on the today show today
Comments (14)LOL Kat. While reading your post my phone rang and it was the Zumba teacher calling to answer a couple questions I had about shoes and clothing. I told him that I've been warned by a friend to NOT wear old bowling shoes. He cracked up. I don't have any worn out shoes except perhaps my hiking shoes and they do not work well for Zumba. I wore them to my one and only Zumba class which was offered by the ranch conservancy where I hike. We danced and yelled at the top of our lungs in the middle of an old horse corral complete with tufts of dead grass, dirt clods and gopher holes. Not the best place to experience Zumba for the first time. :-) Charmaine (my sis) lives in Gig Harbor. Not sure where she teaches but I suspect it's Gig Harbor. Below is her Zumba profile and schedule at Form Fit 24-Hour Fitness. Gads, all her certifications make me ill. LOL Jodi- Here is a link that might be useful: Charmaine...See MoreMore Gift Ideas Needed: Gifts for Good Friends
Comments (33)We had the same problem for years. We have a group of seven couples (all close in age). We would take trips together once every year or so but during the year we would take turns hosting a monthly dinner. Of course this always necessitated a hostess gift. All of us are comfortably off and at our age have everything (material) that we want or need. It drove me crazy because I was constantly being gifted with craft type items. I am just not into cutesy things and I had a difficult time coming up with items that I thought the other ladies would enjoy or use. I failingly ended up giving food items or fresh flowers. We all finally came to a consensus that we should stop doing hostess gifts and at Christmas put funds together to donate to a charity. Thank goodness! The pressure every month is off and we can give to those in need. It's a win/win....See MoreRecipe help for a friend, any ideas would be great.
Comments (9)The almighty hamburger (or sausage or a mix) can be a real lifesaver at times. Hamburgers, meatloaf, sloppy joes, spaghetti, chili, hamburger soup, doctor up canned soups, tater tot hotdish, macaroni hotdish, tacos, burritos, etc. Don't discount what sounds more complicated but is real easy like a pot roast. Put it in a dutch oven, an electric roaster, slow cooker or whatever along with potatoes, onions and let it go slow all day. Smells great, is pretty foolproof and is a gourmet meal in my book. Sometimes I'll roast potatoes with a meatloaf too. Other things are a chef's salad. How easy! Remind him that "breakfast for supper" is fine too. Eggs & favorite meat with toast, pancakes, maybe with fresh fruit on them. French toast or waffles. I'm sure he has a busy day and there's going to be times he just won't feel much like cooking. Let him know it's OK to keep a Stouffer's Lasagna or a frozen pizza or two in the freezer. The kids are old enough to cook some too. Even making a peanut butter sandwich, chips, veggie sticks and fresh fruit can be done and is fine. They can cook pasta and the like, with proper supervision. See if you can find some shows like How to Boil Water and the like at the library and let him watch those. It can be some family entertainment too and they can learn the basics. Other things off the top of my head are a simple baked potato topped with chili. Soup, stew, chili, casseroles/hotdishes. The biggest challenge is to get over the fear of cooking. The second biggest challenge is to think end result and not dwell on the details. Sometimes the simplest meal enjoyed with good friends is far better than a fancy meal when depressed. I thought I'd contribut more of ideas and techniques rather than a specific recipe. One other thought: Maybe some suggestions and help on meal planning. Cook once, eat twice (or more) and things like that. Brown up hamburger and you have the start for sloppy joes one night, tacos another night, spaghetti another night, tater tot hot dish another night and even more, depending on how much you make, plus there's just the grease cleanup only one time. My best to them. What a nightmare it must be for them. I know that often you just don't feel like eating either. That's why the simple things and hey, there's nothing wrong with picking up some deli chicken or deli meats & salads occasionally too! And you're a very thoughtful person for thinking of them and trying to help out like this....See Morekristenfl
