Here is Main / Guest Bath Decor - 6 pics

For my main bath and the short hallway leading to door I used items that had been in various rooms in the last rental house.

Pic 1: The entry way I hung the art that had been in the Princess room, my daughter's bedroom in Wisconsin. I know the large floral print is too large for that bit of wall but I had no other place to put it and I really like seeing this print as I walk down the hall many times a day. It brings life to a dull space.

Pic 2: The dog print is actually a painting done by the gorilla Michael (now deceased) who was a companion of Koko, the gorilla who does hundreds of sign language words. This art piece I moved here from 3rd bedroom, the black and white room, to make a space available for that mirror. Above the dog art is a scanned image of a notecard I had bought at the grocery store. I used Photoshop to enlarge it and enhance the purple color.

Pic 3: Inside the bath I hung a shower curtain even though this bath has no shower. Is there some kind of handheld shower that you can screw onto the bath faucet? I had the purple scarf given to me many years by a lady who is from India. The flowers on the bathtub used to be in my kitchen in last house.

Pic 4: The purple flowers in the glass beads used to be in the Princess Room. I know there is a lot of stuff on the counter, a style which a lot of people do not like but it works for me since I seldom use this room. (I also have too many pillows on my beds but I like them.) All of the seashells, towels, candle holder, and art were in my master bath in last house.

Pic 5: The pencil drawings of the seashells were also a school project years ago. The seashells in the blue frames are also internet pics.

Pic 6: The last photo with the wavy mirrors (not fond of these but they came with this rental house) has three art pieces, the first two left to right are actually calendar pages, again from the Princess Room. The last one I added was a pic from internet again.

So this bath is a mixture of sea and garden looks.

Do I need to add some purple towels to the rod on wavy mirror wall? If I would stay here beyond a year I would probably remove the wavy mirrors and maybe change that "hollywood" light fixture to something more contemporary.

Very pretty! I have one of those wavy mirrors from Ikea but I never thought to hang it that way - so creative. Your own art work is lovely!

Thanks postum!! In what room do you have your wavy mirror? I do not think the wavy mirrors in my rental house are new. So Ikea has them?

I went to Bed, Bath & Beyond today to look for the towels that matches the toilet seat cover. I was disappointed because the toilet seat cover is such a dark, rich purple but the towels' dye lot looked faded. So I skipped that. B,B,&B still have the seashell towels I have and I bought those years ago but at Linens & Things, I think.

The bath rug is Ralph Lauren which I got on sale at Dillards. The shower curtain is from Target, purchased about 2 1/2 years ago.

This bathroom and the other one both have that open space under 1/2 of the vanity. Is that there so you can put one of those vanity stools? I just use the space for a scale and in the other room I may use these plastic bins for makeup, etc. These countertops both under 32 inches tall. Although I am 5'7" tall the low countertops feel really low when I am washing my hands, etc.

the tile is a story in itself. we went to the tile store to pick out tile. I really wanted some leaf shapes to throw in there, but they had none. while we were there, a lady came in with a sample board of hand cut leaf shaped slate tiles. Since the tile store had no account with her yet, they told me to deal directly with her. she had never done a maple leaf before, but I asked for 6 of them. She made 10 and let me choose. My apologies. I read it as 6'6", and calculated as 66"..duh. I agree you could put in a make-up vanity here, but sitting at it may be tight though. Could you move the make-up vanity to the shower end? This would put a sink closer to the toilet, for hand washing, freeing wall space for hanging towels and give room behind the vanity seating. With the toilet gone at the end of the shower, you could put a storage cabinet in it's place. Just be aware that moving the toilet is very involved and expensive. A new waste line has to be run down and a new vent line has to be run up through the roof. Then both of the old ones must be removed and holes repaired. Water shouldn't be a problem, since it's on the same wall as the removed tub. It's just a matter of rerouting it in the wall to the toilet location. Here's my BOP for this year. The tree is so large all I added is my deer. I think I have a smaller purple tree but it hasn't come out from hiding yet.LOL If it does, I may do some tweaking and repost. When I found this little purple dress ornament couldn't resist and thought it went well with my purple hat tree topper. I was hoping to bring the veil down on the hat but didn't want to cover up my little ornament under it. Here's a closeup of the feathers on the hat and the picture on the ornament. Photobucket is not wanting to resize so it's really a closeup.LOL Hope others will continue to fill up this fun post. I had never heard of decorating the bop before coming here. I love telling others about it for a laugh. And to think some think all we decorate is tables on Holidays.LOL They really should get out more often and check things out before being so vocal. Punk

Lovely sense of style! Bravo! We investigated porcelain marble look-alike tile but we decided on real marble which we will have to care for without any acidic products. Beware that there is a repeating pattern in marble look-alike porcelain tile like (on wall paper which will give away the secret.) We found great deals on Amazon and at Lowes for Bianco Carrara subways, pencils, chair rails and floor and shower floor hexes (1/3 the price of tile stores). We found a gorgeous remnant for our shower bench at a marble and stone shop at an amazing price. I can't wait until it's done to post photos! But back to your house... it's gorgeous!

I know you will want to shoot me, but I think the wavy mirror fits quite well!!! You always do such a good job with what you have/are given!! I'm so proud of you!

jaybird, oh, I would not shoot you. Well, I guess the wavy mirrors could represent water and so then the seashells work with that.

I hope to get a job very soon. I would prefer something to do with design but right now I hope to get any kind of job that is not too far away. I received 2 rejection emails yesterday, one from Wells Fargo. Oh, well.

Wow....maybe I should keep my ideas to myself, but there is too many things going on in that size of bathroom.... I do totally understand the tendency to keep adding things, but you really do not have to put something on every wall. If you look at fine design homes, the less is more concept is the one that is used constantly.

The bathroom's basics are quite lovely with the tilework. The colors lend it to a sea/nautical theme quite well, but I don't think the garden addition really belongs. One beautiful nautical painting above the toilet and please lose the purple. Nothing should ever be behind the door when it is opened (it appears the wavy mirrors go behind the door).

The tan is an excellent choice (represents sand) in the room. Another color could be a touch of black (to anchor the room). You simply have two themes battling for attention and too many trinkets (corner of tub and back of stool). A few well-chosen and well-placed items in a guest path will get more oohs and ahhs.

Just my humble opinion after decorating my home and my friends' homes for over 30 years. The older I get, the less items I use and the better my home looks.

I just loooove deep purple w/greens! I think that's what i'll have in my bedroom and mstr bath. (of course I'd also like gold, rust, teal...) - lol!

i can make out that saguaro landscape! gotta love that - it's my favorite cactus. i only have 1 very, very small one (my sister gave me from her land - a baby).

and i also love those wavy mirrors - will have to remember that from ikea (will copy pic into my 'ideas' folder). thx!

ThreeD, I think your artwork is beautifully framed and I love the mattings. I like your ocean/shell theme in that bathroom---the blues lend itself well to your artwork. You did good, girl! :)

Count me in as liking those wavy mirrors too.

Um, why should 'nothing ever be behind the door when it is opened'? Not all of us are blessed with humongous bathrooms. If I didn't use the space behind the door in one of my baths, the towel bars alone would be crammed into 4 lineal feet of wall space. Tried it. There are only so many ways to arrange two towel bars in that amount of real estate. Actually only one way. Stacked. Right next to the tub. It looked bottom heavy at the tub side of the wall and off kilter. So I utilized the wall space behind the door. Two towel bars, 3 medium prints above that. Works for me. *shrug*

kind of funny, but I LOVE those mirrors and totally want to steal it for DD's upcoming bathroom.
