Finally, 1 remodeled bath and 1 new one
Comments (42)pps7, I'm sorry I didn't see your post in April. :( Thank you for your comments! labocki, the master is real marble called Gioia and I bought it from DalTile. I was originally going to do a patterned floor and subway in the shower, too! Then I saw the marble and decided to use it everywhere. I thought a 'tile rug' with patterned tile in the middle of the floor would be the star of that bathroom until I realized I would probably have a real rug covering that cold marble tile floor and it would cover any tile rug so I just did 100% 12x12 polished marble everywhere. That was a short story made long :) but I wanted to tell you I had your vision also (Mrs. Limestone-ish). Having said all that, I would be very happy with the Carrera Star on all of the surfaces in the master. The shower floor can be your basketweave. Or maybe the shower floor plus a row on the wall similar to the bubbles in our hall bathroom. The faucets in the master were bought at Home Depot about 10 yrs ago and I think they are Delta. I did see similar faucets in either HD or Lowes. Good luck! maggie200, thank you! Personally, I would not use vessel sinks now and glass block would depend on how you are using it. I'm going out of town tomorrow morning and still have to pack after work today but if I have time I'll find your posts....See Moregoing from full bath to 3/4 bath in guest bathroom?
Comments (17)"The pull of that tub on the first floor for young families is a real selling point here. Any mom who has had to run up stairs constantly to stay with pre-schooled aged children in the tub, while trying to do laundry and get supper on the table can appreciate the usefulness of a main floor tub. " Yeah, um, no. As a mother with two little kids, I NEVER used the full bath on the main floor for bathing. If I'm making dinner and doing laundry, there's no way on God's green earth I've got kids in a tub as well. Kids in tubs need to be watched. If their bedrooms are upstairs, then that's where I bathe them. No slipping of wet feet going upstairs, no water tracked through the house to their bedrooms. However, my caveat to this is your house wouldn't be on my buyer's radar because I need a kid's bathroom with a tub upstairs, and if I could find a house in your price range where I didn't have to bathe my kids in the master bathroom, I'd take it every time....See MoreGuest Bath Remodel Finished
Comments (23)Linelle, Yes it is an external mount. I only had to worry about the cows looking in from the pasture behind us but someone bought the 10 acres and built a McMansion so I had to attach a blind. That McMansion is in my face :( from every room reminding me of my relatively small house....See MoreHow to remodel full bath "on the cheap"
Comments (11)I bought a nice 60" double vanity with marble top from Home Depot and they offered a service to deliver to the room of my choice. It was a very heavy fully assembled vanity and that was well worth the extra money to have two sturdy delivery men carry it up . Home Depot Water Creation Madison 60in Vanity - $1299 I also purchased a nice Toto toilet from Home Depot. In the past I've also purchased them from other online stores or from a local plumbing supply. I would typically prefer to purchase from smaller local plumbing supply but the one in town that supplies Toto sold me a 1.6gpf and then gave me a 1.28gpf. When I complained and asked for the toilet I requested / purchased they lied to me and told me Toto wasn't making them anymore. Home Depot let me purchase online and pick up in local store. And I ended up with the correct toilet. Very easy. Home Depot TOTO Drake Toilet - $263 I would definitely install a new tub rather than considering painting / refinishing an existing tub. I prefer a sturdy cast iron tub, but they are heavy. So that might be another one you'd want to have delivered (if possible). Or you can opt for an acrylic tub which would be much easier to move yourself. Make absolutely certain that whoever is installing tile is properly waterproofing behind the tile. Tile and grout are not waterproof on their own and you don't want to spend the money only to have a disastrous mold problem in a few years. Shop around for tile. Hit up a bunch of local tile stores and get cost per sqft for tile you like. Some tile is incredibly expensive and other tile is very reasonably priced. Just keep yourself to a budget and I'm sure you can design a lovely bathroom and source all the materials yourself....See Moremeyermike_1micha
