NEW Jenn-Air 'V2' Double Convection Ovens?
Comments (1)New oven, new design, new technology trying to borrow from Wolf's design, only I believe their air-flow moves in the opposite direction. One place I looked at them was very excited about them, but the next place was more cautious. Said JennAir would have to prove themselves more than just their own claims that this is a great oven to compete with and be trusted in the high end market with a totally new approach for them. I thought that sounded prudent. Way too expensive to take the risk on that oven for me. But I didn't have them available at cost, and I have no idea how much that saves you off the prices I was quoted...But then it comes down to whether you're willing to deal with the possible problems of an untried engineering design. Personally, I got tired of companies who want consumers to test their new ideas and went with Wolf, who does their own extensive testing before things hit the market. But I'd had bad oven experiences and wanted to get the best bet in having no issues. That's what worked for me, but not necessarily for everyone....See MoreWolf or Jenn-Air?
Comments (24)I've had open burners & sealed burners and I gotta' tell you that I would trade all of the sealed burners cookers in the world for the old 80's era Whirlpool bottom of the line cheapo open burner cooktop that I had in my last house. I just hate sealed burners; they don't cook the same. And they're a PIA to really clean. To clean that ring where the burner is 'sealed', I have to disassemble them. To do that, I have to go hunt down the proper Allen wrench. Just doesn't happen but once every year or three. Any boil-overs are a mess. You basically have to switch burners w/ what you're cooking (unless you want a baked on bigger mess to deal with) and wait for everything to cool down before you can deal w/ the mess. And the self-cleaning feature on my Kenmore quit working after the first time I used it. (The range was 2-3 years old when I bought it second hand when its predecessor kicked the bucket and was non-repairable.) Depending on how much you use the oven, of course, and I don't use mine a whole lot, keeping the oven clean isn't that big of deal. I prefer to clean up little messes when the oven cools rather than letting them accumulate into a cleaning ordeal. For most folks, for most of the time, a 36'' oven is overkill. For that matter, most of the time, a 30'' oven is overkill for me. If I could have my druthers, I would add a 24'' or 27'' wall oven for those little baking chores like a 9 x 13 cake, blueberry muffins, etc. A large Nesco will handle the holiday turkeys... And a lot of people love their toaster ovens. I'm resisting the urge to add another counter top appliance, though......See MoreEarly Review: New Jenn Air Slide in Gas Range
Comments (135)Update on our experience with this range: Here to provide an update 5 years in. It's been a mixed bag. Still have the range and it still performs well overall. However, I have had some issues that have reduced my enthusiasm. I've now replaced the electronic panel twice and the fan designed to cool the panel also failed. I suspect that electronic panel will need to be replaced every 2-3 years. There is just not enough insulation between the heat sources and the electronic panel. There is a designated fan to keep it cool but I don't think it is sufficient. I also had the fan itself die. Thus far Jenn-Air have been pretty good about the repairs. The most recent situation was a couple of months ago and the control panel died rendering the oven unusable. Jenn-air paid for the parts and I had to pay for the labor. I doubt that support will continue into the future. Also where I live getting a competent tech to come out hasn't always been easy. One fo the companies that Jenn-air arranged to service the range was absolutely horrible and never bothered to show up at all. I think this design is flawed and makes me now weary of recommending this product. The other thing that has become more annoying is that the control panel and the knobs tend to get really grubby from cooking. Their location on the top rather than the front has advantages (harder for little kids to play with and accidentally turn on) and disadvantages (messy). I didn't seem to mind this initially but it bugs me more and more now. All of the non-electronic bits have held up really well (grates, burners, igniters, pan under burners etc.). The door is still operates very smoothly. If I had it to do over again I think I would splurge and go for the open-burner range I coveted at the time (Bluestar or Capital) and avoid all the fancy electronics....See MoreJennAir vs Wolf
Comments (11)"I have both the Mercedes and the Wolf and the common thread they have is they are expensive both in initial cost and maintainence." Refreshing, (as usual), Wekick, to see you tell it "Like It REALLY IS"!!!! I have had an Electrolux oven, over 10 years now, You couldn't give me 10 Wolf ovens, to replace my Electrolux. It has been Completely trouble free. It is intuitive to use, large easy to read control panel, and temps etc spot on! Likewise I would not trade my 10 year old 48" built in Jenn-air fridge, which has features even today's fridges do not have, (Unfortunately Jenn-air too), so we wont go into what you can't get today, just suffice it to say we Love that Fridge. Electrolux Speed Oven and wine fridge, and Induction cooktop likewise all trouble free and well built. The only "esoteric" or so called "High end appliance I own is a Miele Dishwasher. I did not buy it because it was a Miele, at the time 2006, it was the only DW made with a top cutlery tray, which was a "must have" for us, ya and we still love that tray! This Mercedes / VDub comparison is a bunch of bunk by "Stuffed Shirts" that have no of what they are typing here about. I Owned 2 mercedes Benz, they kept Mercedes Service Dept very busy and very happy. I finally said "Nuff is enough', went down to the Honda Dealer said "Gimmie any used Honda" to replace this piece of Junque that is giving me the "BENZ"!!!!! They did, and even thou I lost the "part that went over the fence last", I loved the Honda that replaced the Benz. Like Wekick, I find it far more enjoyable and less stressful living in the real world of Quality! Gary...See Moresayde
