Some of the programs are useful. Nice to see the before and after pics of "Designed to sell". Food for thought more than anything. johnmarie wrote: "Our agent says that he has turned down many listings because people wouldn't Clean The D@mn House Already, and he wasn't going to waste his time trying to market a dog of a house." Your agent sounds wise. If I were an agent, I wouldn't want to waste my time working with slobby sellers either. I have walked through houses that didn't look like they had been cleaned in 10 years. One had dog feces all over the deck. We weren't able to see much with all the clutter. Needless to say, it was a waste of time for all concerned. It eventually went to foreclosure. triciae wrote: "Looks like the ad execs are bound & determined that we will watch & be influenced by those commercials..." Ad execs seem to think that it is not enough that you are inundated with loud commercials at a every break. What I find it even more annoying are the moving persons/objects that take up the lower left/right corner of your screen WHILE your watching the regular programming. As for the comment in triciae's link, New Style Commercials, "We all need to become more creative in how we incorporate sponsors into a program," said Ed Swindler, executive vice president for NBC Universal ad sales. "No one on the creative side or the business side wants to make commercials intrusive, but we do need to commercialize efficiently so viewers can afford to get free television." They ARE intrusive. I PAY plenty to watch TV. If this money isn't being used to pay for programming, what are we paying so much for? Patty_cakes wrote: "Are *real* buyers now 'taking note' of a home owners furnishing after watching shows of this nature? And worse yet, are they forming opinions to NOT by a house because of disliked furnishings?" No. I don't notice the furnishings. If I do, it is only to compare how MY furnishings might fit.

I used to really enjoy This Old House WAY back when they used to do a realistic refurb. Nowadays they sit there and ask How's the budget? and the response is Well, we really have to keep this kitchen remodel to no more than $550,000.00 and the response is usually Wow, that's gonna be tight.... we can get some donations, and you can do some of the labor, but boy it's going to be tight! The Ask TOH is much more like TOH used to be. Always liked Decorating Cents. But I always liked Joan Steffend. She was a news anchor here and one of the best I've seen. Really sad to see her leave. But her show was enjoyable. I taped many of them because there were some ideas in there I liked and at the time I was thinking of moving so I thought I might be able to make use of some of the ideas. I like the shows where they're not using all the imported marble and specialized everything. Branjalina can afford that, but I sure can't. I'll stick with the shows that do the room redo for $500 or the like. Don't have cable or satellite anymore so I don't see HGTV very often. But it was one channel I did enjoy. But then again, when I see it now, there's some strange shows on there too! I really don't miss cable very often. One thing I get a kick out of on the designers. In one room it'll have dark colors and it's OH we HAVE to lighten this up! Get rid of the dark dreary colors and get the light airy... Then the next room, Oh we HAVE to do something about these colors. Make it dark, rich and warm! Anything to sell paint I guess.

I too sort of liked Virgin River. Formulaic but not too bad, at least the woman doctor isn't insipid. I have watched the Kominsky Method both season twice. There is a poignancy there that speaks to me. Watched "Gentification" this weekend and loved it. It's more than half in Spanish with subtitles but takes place in the US/Los Angeles Boyle neighborhood. That didn't bother me. I found its message about struggling as an artist/creator and trying to keep neighborhood traditions alive in changing economic times very relatable even for me in a small midwestern town. A tad stereotypical, but what TV isn't a tad stereotypical. Pick your poison. Bear in mind this is just my .02, but I loathe "Mrs. Maisel" let me count the ways. Sophomoric is one that comes to mind. Great eye candy but oh so Disneyfied do don't call it ground breaking. And as a Jew, I find it a terribly insulting lame self-parody, and that's being kind. No reflection on the talent in the show though. My grandkids turned me on to "Stranger Things." So far so good but I'm not very far into it. For sci fi fans mostly though. I gravitate towards escapist things with a strong dose of humor but I'm always down for a little genuine pathos, but not ones that make me gag at their pretensions.

Thanks for the heads up Sue. I love House Hunters and Property Virgins! I don't get how Sandra must travel all over the country (or eastern coast) to find the houses. First it seemed like it was just Canada, but then she was in Ohio, Penn etc etc. Now Va. Staff I guess?

I was probably a realtor in a former life! I love to snoop around houses!!

Yes, all 10 episodes!!! They re-run them over and over. It's mostly shot in Toronto, but she did do some in Texas and then some other states. Hopefully Canada will get a decent budget and buy some more shows.

There's not much I don't watch on HGTV. I'm just disappointed that they took the gardening shows off, and wish they didn't have so many re-runs, but yes, I love HGTV.

I do not like Sandra. She is very pushy about insisting her customers spend the max they are approved for even though they don't feel comfortable with that amount. This is one of the reason so many people are losing their homes. People should have a mortgage payment they can afford and still be able to afford to do other things.

I like Sandra and really enjoy the show. Sorry I missed tonight - big end of the year party at the preschool where I teach. I'm sure I'll see it on a rerun sometime, though.

Do you know the names of the people? They just reran some episodes tonight. One couple (Leigh & Dan) was in the Richmond/Midlothian area. Just curious if that was them?

I yell at the television when I watch that show. There always seems to be some 26-year-old saying, "Yes, I know I can only afford to pay half of what houses in that neighborhood generally go for, but I want to live there, and I want a swimming pool, a huge kitchen and a media room. And I don't think I should have to compromise."

We watch all of these - House Hunters, My First Place and Renovation Realities. Our favorite is Renovation Realities because we do all our own remodeling. Some of those people should just hire a pro. LOL

Teresava, yes, I think that was the couple. Don't remember their names, but I do remember they didn't find a house with the Realtor. So if the couple you saw didn't find a house, that was them.

My DD works with the father of the young man, and he told her they did find a house on their own.

I watch property virgins and also watch house hunters, curb appeal, my first place, spice up my kitchen, save my bath, and holmes on homes.

I love them all and I love HGTV!
