I've e-mailed them in the past several times and never get a response. Someone on the Butterfly forum said they actually sent a registered letter to them. I agree with the show hosted by Rick Kaldrovics - same plants, same BORING plants, and nothing exciting and new. Gardening by the Yard was one of my favs, as was Gardener's Diary, and Gardener's Journal. Rebecca's Garden just didn't do it for me - she focuses a lot on ditzy craft projects and kid gardening (as if we didn't already know how to do that). The Disney gardening show wasn't too bad, but still kind of ditzy IMHO (it was on several years ago for awhile). PBS here in Oklahoma sponsors an Oklahoma Gardening show on Saturday followed by Victory Garden. I miss Roger and the old, experience guys. My neighbor calls the new fellows the Yuppie Gardeners. LOL! Most of their segments focus on cooler weather gardens and european gardens. Neither suited to my area in Oklahoma. Of all the shows, though, Gardening by the Yard had to be my favorite. Paul James is kind of a clown, but he sure knows his stuff, and he introduces new plants all the time, and really focuses on gardening in different areas of the country. Some of the programs are useful. Nice to see the before and after pics of "Designed to sell". Your agent sounds wise. If I were an agent, I wouldn't want to waste my time working with slobby sellers either. I have walked through houses that didn't look like they had been cleaned in 10 years. One had dog feces all over the deck. We weren't able to see much with all the clutter. Needless to say, it was a waste of time for all concerned. Ad execs seem to think that it is not enough that you are inundated with loud commercials at a every break. What I find it even more annoying are the moving persons/objects that take up the lower left/right corner of your screen WHILE your watching the regular programming. As for the comment in triciae's link, New Style Commercials, "We all need to become more creative in how we incorporate sponsors into a program," said Ed Swindler, executive vice president for NBC Universal ad sales. "No one on the creative side or the business side wants to make commercials intrusive, but we do need to commercialize efficiently so viewers can afford to get free television." They ARE intrusive. I PAY plenty to watch TV. If this money isn't being used to pay for programming, what are we paying so much for? My daughter and I are just finishing up a project of doing over one of the empty bedrooms as a guest room. It's been a better experience than I was anticipating. My daughter surprised me with her degree of flexibility and cooperation. She and I are both very opinionated and our tastes overlap some but she tends more toward contemporary and I lean toward country/traditional. I was worried we'd get into a conflict over it, but we've done great! I wanted purple for a paint color, but she talked me into blue. That was fine, my husband's favorite color is blue so I thought it was about time we did something in a color he likes. Then we went to the paint store together and we were pretty close on the color shade we wanted. When we got to the store, we both decided to go by the rule of choosing one shade lighter than you think you need and we both LOVE the color, now that it's done! She liked a contemporary duvet cover and I didn't hate it, but I feel deprived without florals. [g] So, in a stalemate, she asked what her father liked. She's been very mindful that the room is at our house and we should like it. Very thoughtful of her. So when I gave him the choices he chose the exact duvet cover I wanted, without knowing it was that one. I was very surprised. Now that the room is just about done, my daughter likes the duvet cover as much as I do. She wants roman shades on the windows and I like that idea too, but I LOVE lace at the window. Since I had lace panels in the house and it's not winter yet, we put them up for the time being and she really likes them now too...lol. And I'll take my time finding some roman shades before winter. We have influenced each other in a positive way and now we all like the room. It's SO good to have a room done, but who ever said, do one room and nothing motivates you more to start fixing everything was so right. My father used to say the same thing. My mother would suggest they start painting and he would always begin by saying 'No, you paint one room and you end up painting the whole house and replacing the carpet, etc.' It's very noticeable that we need to paint the rest of the first floor now. It has been 15 years since we painted last. [g]

The show that I really like is Bang For Your Buck. On BFYB the camera takes its time and actually shows whole rooms and details with a well-photographed and easy eye. No jarring editing. No dumb "reveal." The owners explain why they remodeled as they did, how and why they made their decisions, what worked and what didn't, etc. Then the designers come in and critique the rooms. Of course, they're supposed to find something wrong, so they always do, even if it's silly. But you actually have a serious discussion of a room by two separate parties. I don't actually care much who got the biggest "bang", but I've gotten a lot of decorating ideas. Love HouseHunters just for choosing the house I like best and guessing which was the one chosen. Some of the stories on HH are very moving. Unless, of course, it's some 20-something whippersnapper who whines about granite or looks at a perfectly usable bathroom and says "dated". In that case, like some other posters here, I yell at him/her to go live in a village in Afghanistan or Iran, where the toilets are literally a hole in the floor (or the ground). Sometimes we don't realize how great our lives are! As an English teacher and cranky grammar-nanny, I do blame HGTV for its cruel assault on our beautiful language. However, I'll spare the forum my lecture. :o)

Thanks for the heads up Sue. I love House Hunters and Property Virgins! I don't get how Sandra must travel all over the country (or eastern coast) to find the houses. First it seemed like it was just Canada, but then she was in Ohio, Penn etc etc. Now Va. Staff I guess?

I was probably a realtor in a former life! I love to snoop around houses!!

Yes, all 10 episodes!!! They re-run them over and over. It's mostly shot in Toronto, but she did do some in Texas and then some other states. Hopefully Canada will get a decent budget and buy some more shows.

There's not much I don't watch on HGTV. I'm just disappointed that they took the gardening shows off, and wish they didn't have so many re-runs, but yes, I love HGTV.

I do not like Sandra. She is very pushy about insisting her customers spend the max they are approved for even though they don't feel comfortable with that amount. This is one of the reason so many people are losing their homes. People should have a mortgage payment they can afford and still be able to afford to do other things.

I like Sandra and really enjoy the show. Sorry I missed tonight - big end of the year party at the preschool where I teach. I'm sure I'll see it on a rerun sometime, though.

Do you know the names of the people? They just reran some episodes tonight. One couple (Leigh & Dan) was in the Richmond/Midlothian area. Just curious if that was them?

No, I do not watch them. I don't watch that much television I guess. I do like tv though.

I yell at the television when I watch that show. There always seems to be some 26-year-old saying, "Yes, I know I can only afford to pay half of what houses in that neighborhood generally go for, but I want to live there, and I want a swimming pool, a huge kitchen and a media room. And I don't think I should have to compromise."

We watch all of these - House Hunters, My First Place and Renovation Realities. Our favorite is Renovation Realities because we do all our own remodeling. Some of those people should just hire a pro. LOL

Teresava, yes, I think that was the couple. Don't remember their names, but I do remember they didn't find a house with the Realtor. So if the couple you saw didn't find a house, that was them.

My DD works with the father of the young man, and he told her they did find a house on their own.

I watch property virgins and also watch house hunters, curb appeal, my first place, spice up my kitchen, save my bath, and holmes on homes.

I love them all and I love HGTV!
