Anyone watching HGTV ???
Comments (18)I've e-mailed them in the past several times and never get a response. Someone on the Butterfly forum said they actually sent a registered letter to them. I agree with the show hosted by Rick Kaldrovics - same plants, same BORING plants, and nothing exciting and new. Gardening by the Yard was one of my favs, as was Gardener's Diary, and Gardener's Journal. Rebecca's Garden just didn't do it for me - she focuses a lot on ditzy craft projects and kid gardening (as if we didn't already know how to do that). The Disney gardening show wasn't too bad, but still kind of ditzy IMHO (it was on several years ago for awhile). PBS here in Oklahoma sponsors an Oklahoma Gardening show on Saturday followed by Victory Garden. I miss Roger and the old, experience guys. My neighbor calls the new fellows the Yuppie Gardeners. LOL! Most of their segments focus on cooler weather gardens and european gardens. Neither suited to my area in Oklahoma. Of all the shows, though, Gardening by the Yard had to be my favorite. Paul James is kind of a clown, but he sure knows his stuff, and he introduces new plants all the time, and really focuses on gardening in different areas of the country. Someone said that the new DIY network had more gardening shows than HGTV, which should by all rights, be HTV now. Susan...See MoreAnyone watch Buy Me on HGTV?
Comments (12)I watch that show, and saw that episode. "Buy Me" is much more realistic than a lot of the other shows, and many cases at the end the announcer says that the seller refused to make the necessary repairs or lower the price or whatever, and the house never sold, and their buyer instead bought the house down the street. It's surprising to me to see the number of sellers who just refuse to listen to their realtors, whether it's on decluttering or pricing or being reasonable about counteroffers. But in this case, it was the *realtor* who set the impossibly high price. She had just moved there from Los Angeles and thought the housing prices should be higher. (I understand, I just moved from SoCal and was pleasantly surprised at prices in another state.) But - her whole point was that she, personally, was going to start driving the prices up in that area, just by setting high selling prices. What RE training did she get? Why did she think that would work? She looked like a blooming idiot. She actually went door to door in that neighborhood and told people that she could sell their house for $$$$. And found this one couple who was wanting to move, and they fell for it. Kept her on for 9 months, then when the contract expired went with another realtor and sold the house in two weeks, at a more reasonable price. I think that would definitely qualify as negative publicity for her....See MoreDo you watch HGTV?
Comments (18)I used to really enjoy This Old House WAY back when they used to do a realistic refurb. Nowadays they sit there and ask How's the budget? and the response is Well, we really have to keep this kitchen remodel to no more than $550,000.00 and the response is usually Wow, that's gonna be tight.... we can get some donations, and you can do some of the labor, but boy it's going to be tight! The Ask TOH is much more like TOH used to be. Always liked Decorating Cents. But I always liked Joan Steffend. She was a news anchor here and one of the best I've seen. Really sad to see her leave. But her show was enjoyable. I taped many of them because there were some ideas in there I liked and at the time I was thinking of moving so I thought I might be able to make use of some of the ideas. I like the shows where they're not using all the imported marble and specialized everything. Branjalina can afford that, but I sure can't. I'll stick with the shows that do the room redo for $500 or the like. Don't have cable or satellite anymore so I don't see HGTV very often. But it was one channel I did enjoy. But then again, when I see it now, there's some strange shows on there too! I really don't miss cable very often. One thing I get a kick out of on the designers. In one room it'll have dark colors and it's OH we HAVE to lighten this up! Get rid of the dark dreary colors and get the light airy... Then the next room, Oh we HAVE to do something about these colors. Make it dark, rich and warm! Anything to sell paint I guess....See MoreDo people still wear watches??
Comments (67)I've worn a watch since I was grown up: don't remember the circumstances when I got my first one. En route home on furlough from my mission in Korea in 1957, I attended a conference near Geneva, Switzerland and came to know a young woman who worked in the World Council of Churches office there. She'd worked with a manufacturer of watches earlier and took me there to buy one. The name was "Jeanrichard" and as father's name was "Richard" and stepmother's "Jean" I was pleased. Dad didn't want the second that I bought: he, who always wore a watch, had one that pleased him ... but my youngest brother, also named "Richard" did, so he was pleased with it. A feature that they offered was that they needed no winding or batteries: there was a lever inside that wound their spring as one moved one's hands. I guess there was adequate storage, as they never lost time while one slept ... don't know if we ever let one sit still for an extended period to find out how long they kept the time. Don't recall how long it lasted: several years. I've had several since, usually Timex, and it's hard to find local watch repair places, to get the batteries replaced. My second last, the watch guy told me when it stopped not to replace the battery, as the insides were plastic and so badly worn that they weren't worth the cost of a battery. Daughter recently sent me her second gift of an Indiglo Timex, that lights up with the push of the crown to show the time in the dark ... and this frugal fella shed a couple of tears when viewing the postage fee of $U.S. 15.50 (about Cdn$20.00). ole joyful...See Morechispa
