Susan- thanks for the link. The article was really informative.

Karen- Susan's link mentioned different materials for the sail- that's the item that catches the breeze and moves the clapper. One of the things they mentioned was a piece of stained glass- I have a stained glass Celtic knot that I bought at a craft fair that would work. Do you have anything like that? You'd have to watch the weight- it should be light enough to catch the breeze. But the stained glass would even look pretty when the chime is stationary.

I also liked their suggestion to use an old CD disc. You could print 2 designs that you liked, adhere them to each side of the disc and then protect with a coat of poly.

McMann...I like your suggestion of using the CD disc. In fact, a mini disc would work perfectly. What I have right now is a pewter piece with a flower on it. Since I am more into the Celtic & Wiccan symbols that is why I want to replace the piece.

I know you'll hate my response, (and I know it's OT) but I hate windchimes in general. My neighbor has a small, beautiful chime in memory of her dear departed daughter so I would never suggest she remove it, but boy it drives us crazy hearing that chime tinkling 24/7, whether we're in our yard or all night long when our windows are open. It's not that the chime has an unpleasant sound, it's that it is so constant. It is in a little "grotto" dedicated to her dtr, so no chance of having it moved, either. It's been 15 years.

What's wrong with peace and quiet?

I know what you mean. Several years ago I went to Georgia to see Aunt Linda and she had the worldÂs biggest wind chimes right outside the bedroom window. They kept me awake all night the first night. The next morning she found me sleeping on her futon in her back porch area and asked why I slept there. All I said was "wind chimes"Âvery loud wind chimes. She laughed and removed them so I could sleep at night.
Mine are very small and really donÂt make a lot of noise. I was never big on wind chimes but this one is very pretty and makes very delicate sounds. I just need to make it a little more Wiccan.

samkaren, you describe the exact kind of sounds that I enjoy. Well, see if you like what I ordered. I like pretty delicate sounds, so this to me was soothing. (at least to my ears.(;-)

I love windchimes! This thread reminds me it's time to go find my big ones and hang them outside!!

I think maybe you are referring to the "sail". It is what hangs plum in the middle and moves to hit the chimes and makes them ring.
I love gooed wind chimes but not the tinny sounding ones.
