Obligation of Celebrities

I am interested in the opinions of all the posters here regarding whether or not they think celebrities should acknowledge gifts sent by fans. I'm not talking about teen idols, but of people like Candice Olson. Recently, I saw a poster on a Facebook page asking someone like Candice if they had received the gift they sent. Clearly, they must not be personal friends or they wouldn't be asking on a public page. We talk often about the growing lack of courtesy in our society and I wondered how this situation would fit in.

Do you think celebrities have the obligation to acknowledge unsolicited gifts in some way if a return address or E-mail address is included? Or do you think celebrities are allowed to ignore that courtesy? If so, why?

Do you remember the days when you would receive a picture back from a star even if you just wrote them a fan letter?
