Iron Rose for my birthday/Mother's Day :-) (pic)

My husband had an iron rose made for me by an iron fabricator in middle Tennessee. We went on a road trip one day last week to pick it up. I put it on my mantel but it might get moved to a table top. It will go lots of places. I love it and thought it was a thoughtful and unusual gift. Just wanted to share!

Gorgeous and unusual, and a lovely lasting reminder of your husband's love. There's something very touching about this gift, and I'm so glad you allowed us to share it with you. He must be a special man.

Thank you ingrid. Yes he's a keeper for sure. Our 30th anniversary is next month and it just keeps getting better :-)

You guys make a good team. I was hoping for a flowering hanging basket like DH got me last year. I got fake roses. :( It will be a cold day in Hades before he ever digs me a pond.) His policy is that I can do almost anything I want to the gardens, as long as I don't expect him to help me, and I keep in mind the needs of He Who Mows. sandi, I think my friend got this one on ebay! I did see some at Ben Franklin before Christmas and they had a green one that I wish I would have bought because now they don't have any. :( luvstocraft, I am missing a couple of plates and saucers but otherwise still have most of the set (set of 8) and also the vegetable bowls and the big round platter. And NO chips on any of them! lol! The yellow tablecloth is as old as the dishes and has had lots of wear! kathleen, I didn't know there was such a thing as a olive tray before my friend sent me that one. I think they are so unique!

My SD called and wished me a Happy Mothers Day. I was very touched because we have had a rough time of it. My SS did not, but I decided not to worry about it. My kids bought me a flower and a card for the 1st time. They are 16 and 11. They were with their Dad, but came to spend the day with me. My Ex never reminds them or offers to take them shopping, so I was so surprised that I received anything this year. My 11 yr old even told me that he spent his own money on the flower!!! I was very happy just to spend the day with them.

Beautiful! What a neat gift!

I have a gray rose, too, but mine is made from duct tape-a gift from my teenage son. :-)

That is soo sweet! it looks great on the mantle. Is it treated so it doesnt rust or is it a living finish?

Thank you guys :-) I do love my rose and its uniqueness. My DH comes up with some different ideas sometimes and prides himself on not always being mainstream...lol.

cooperbailey, On the way home with my rose I started wondering the same thing. It's a burnished finish. I believe if it was natural it would be black and it is buffed to give it a more pewter color. It has some black in the grooves but I'm thinking there's not a finish on it at all. If that's the case I suppose it would rust if exposed to humidity. You're not the first person to ask me that. I'm thinking I should email the fabricator and ask him about it. He was really nice and showed us his workshop which is located in his garage.
