Mother's Day/Father's Day

How do you folks deal with those days? Do you hope the entire day will go fast so you can forget about it? Or does your family do the same things they would with a bio-parent? Do you ever get flowers or a gift? My stepson left a voicemail message on our machine wishing me a Happy Stepmother's Day, and I cried, because I was touched. You want recognition, even with no bio-children of your own, yet it's hard to ask for. Strangers wished me happy Mother's Day, and I thanked them (with no explanation). It felt good.

My SD called and wished me a Happy Mothers Day. I was very touched because we have had a rough time of it. My SS did not, but I decided not to worry about it. My kids bought me a flower and a card for the 1st time. They are 16 and 11. They were with their Dad, but came to spend the day with me. My Ex never reminds them or offers to take them shopping, so I was so surprised that I received anything this year. My 11 yr old even told me that he spent his own money on the flower!!! I was very happy just to spend the day with them.

I don't expect it so I am not disappointed. Misc holidays were not celebrated in my family except in the immediate family. I can only remember two birthday parties for me in my life time. My husband's family does it, but it is out of duty. It is the day to day treatment that I care about most. I had rather have a carnation from the grocery store for no reason, than roses on my birthday.

It's a very lovely house (from what I can tell by the first-floor exterior!). It's also quite formal, and since I have a certain preference for formality (in landscapes and houses), I would definitely suggest going with the formal look that's somewhat established. There is an amazing dry stone wall (it looks dry, at least) which runs along the street. There is also a less-than-stellar dry stone wall to either side of the entrance of the house (bordering the parking pad). It would be nice if you could get that re-done. See if there is any local branches/members of the Dry Stone Wall Association of Canada who might be interested in volunteering to do a small job such as this for charitable reasons. Other than that, a general cleaning-up of the front yard will go a long way to enhancing its appearance. There seem to be some randomly-placed shrubs or small trees in the middle of the lawn which seem very out-of-place. -Audric

Dave.......I agree I think Gerber puts out a quality product. I'm gonna check it out and see if they do....There's a store not far ('bout 100 miles) that carries it for $45-50, said they had a titainium (sp?) one for only 85.....Hmm not needed, me thinks (lol)........Oh well, it was just for kicks and giggles, we'll see if I actually 'pull the trigger', I tend to be a 'make do' sort of gal.....and right now 45-50 would give me about 3/8ths of a tank of fuel...Priorities are what it comes down to...........

Heck yea Kathy, Move over! I'm with ya. Actually I am in a dilemma over Mother's Day. On Saturday my life long friend (we met the summer before kindergarten) is having a baby shower (her first - FINALLY). The shower is in a a town halfway between my town and my moms. I'm 85 miles from my mom. I want to just go from the shower on to my moms Saturday night. That way I can spend The day with my mom and my grandma. Really the draw is my grandma. I can't imagine I'll have many more with her. But, I too have kids that always want to make me stay in bed while they and their father make me breakfast. They always make a big show out of it. It really makes them so happy to do that and like mentioned above, they wont want to do that much longer. I'm so torn. (thumping head on desk)

I tell my stepfather Happy Father's Day.
I try to avoid talking to my stepmother as much as possible. It depends on how you treat the sons and daughters as to whether or not you need to get that recognition.
