Are you quilting this weekend? May 17-19

I have some flowers to plant this weekend but I think I will still have time to sew. I have a new Hello Moon block to make and I am still working on the Marie Bostwick star quilt-along blocks.
My small quilt group is doing a challenge. We have a fairly large stash of fabric, including kid panels. Everyone was encouraged to choose some fabrics from the stash and make a quilt. There are no guidelines, make any size or type quilt. The finished quilts will be put in our "quilt bank" so we have finished quilts for unexpected needs. I chose an alphabet panel and will make pinwheel blocks to surround it.
When all of the above projects are done, I want to start working on the monkey baby quilt for the coming grandbaby.

I am not sure yet if I am going to do any hand-piecing this weekend. This week I finished re-reading the last half of "The Christmas Quilt" which is the 2nd book in the Elm Creek Quilts series. Today I started reading the 3rd book in that series the "Round Robin". I plan to be curled up with good books most of this weekend and begin packing for an upcoming RV trip. I plan to sew. My Twister Heart wall hanging/table topper is ready for binding and I have it ready to sew on. Thought I'd get it done tonight, but don't think so. I've been quilting on that QOV off and on all week and finally just folded it up and set it aside for now. I have another red/white/blue I want to make longer as it's a square right now so thought I'd make some gold Friendship Star blocks and add a row to the top and bottom. Not sure if it will look good or not, but I'll make them and see. My UFO's are being whittled at.........

LindaOH, You'll get everything done so you can start working on that Monkey quilt, you know you will! lol

Sandra, Will you be RV'ing to sightsee or heading to a park for awhile?

I just stopped quilting to check this forum. I'm on Maui right now, and it's the most gorgeous day imaginable. Sunny, breezy and 77. So much better than Minneapolis where it will be -11 tomorrow night. I'm finally working on my Baby Honu quilt. I bought the fabrics and pattern here two years ago. I'm making it for us, so it always gets set aside while I quilt for others. I also brought my bird of paradise wallhanging paper-piecing project. Small projects for a small quilting space. My husband is watching football, what else, so I thought I'd keep him company. Periodically, I go out onto the lanai and just soak up the sun for a few minutes.

Jennifer can't wait to see your quilt. We have gotten rain 5 evenings in a row this week. As a result of all that rain my pink dinnerplate hibiscus has a couple of large seed pods forming, so hoping in the near future that I will be able to collect seeds off of it. I am thinking about WS some ROS this winter for my brother and neighbor and may do some for me to keep as well. Well yesterday was day 2 of school shopping, and still have one more day of shopping to do. My child hates to try on shoes and clothes so we break it into multiple afternoons of shopping. M-I-L is back home and she is more stubborn than my son so it helps to have her with me when we do school shopping. I am making good progress on Christy's grandbaby quilt. Only have 6 granny square blocks left to hand-quilt on her quilt; really hoping to have the hand-quilting done by the end of July. It is miserably hot here, but we always in months of July and August have temps in high 90's to triple digits and usually we have no rain during these months, but am so thankful for the 5 evenings of rain we have had this week. We have the AC set on 72*F but parts of the house we are having to run ceiling fans in and keeping most of the lights off in the house to keep things cooler. I am so ready for cooler fall weather, September is usually a month of shorts and flip flops here, but usually October starts to cool down a little. There is stuff I want to do in my flower garden, but it will have to wait until October/November when it starts to cool off. We had a good visit with S-I-L and her family earlier today and this afternoon DH and DS and M-I-L and F-I-L are off to visit my other S-I-L and her kids and grandkids. I stayed home so I could finish washing sheets and get the beds remade and to work some on Christy's quilt. A nice quiet afternoon to sit and quilt. :-) Best to you, Sandra

Hi, it is nice to meet you Teresa and Karlene. Here are pics of the first quilt I made. I made it completely by hand so it took me several years. It's a backwards pinwheel quilt. Here is a small quilt I made for my friend's new puppy. I used 9" Card Tricks block and used a towel instead of batting so is not a choking hazard to the puppy. And here is a baby quilt I made completely by hand for a close friend of mine. It's made of apple prints using the 9" Card Tricks block. Here is the quilt top for my niece's baby doll's quilt which is going to be her Christmas present this year. Am making a matching pillow to go with it. It's made of 4 9" blocks. Here is a group project I coordinated for GW's Linda Ruzicka's grand-daughter's baby quilt. And here is the 9" block I am making for my queen-size Card Tricks quilt. Hoping to finish it in 2011. Am starting an applique canning jar lap-quilt for my mom's Christmas present this week. In 2011 I want to start a queensize Grandma's Flower Garden hexagon quilt and make some embroidered lap-quilts. And I have a back burner 9" flower pot applique that I have the plastic templates for and have started cutting out a few flowers for. My sister had gotten me in 2008 the Better Homes and Gardens "Quilt Pink for Hope" quilt book, so am having fun making 9" blocks this year. Best to you, Sandra aka quiltingfox

Rita, I feel so bad for you. I didn't know you can't go back and add more quilting. I've considered doing it before, but didn't. Theresa, that is a very nice block. Glad you worked it out. Sharon, here is the pattern.snowball I'll make it 3 nine patch blocks by 3. I sewed up all the nine patches, but I need to buy some white tomorrow. I didn't use all the fabrics, but I think it comes out to 117 by the time I make the border blocks. Urgent care told us husband's urinalysis was OK but x-rays showed he had arthritis. I questioned how you can go from no pain with arthritis to extreme pain in one day. We were headed out of town for a week and the pain was terrible. When we got back and saw his regular doc, he looked at the results from urgent care and the urinalysis clearly showed a UTI. Two weeks on the meds, lots of pain and he still has it. So now we are on a very potent antibiotic. We have an appt mid-Nov with an orthopedic surgeon to check out the arthritis just in case that is the problem causing the pain. HOwever, if the pain goes away in a couple of days with the antibiotic, we'll probably cancel. Then we have to question why he got the UTI, so we might end up at the urologist. Long explanation, but I feel we learn from each other (more than the doctors).

I started quilting the baby quilt yesterday, so will definitely work on that (the baby shower is next weekend.) In between quilting, I will be gardening and cleaning house and grocery shopping. (Oh, why did I leave it all for Saturday?) My DD from CO is coming tomorrow night for a 9 day visit. Hooray!

Sandra, I need to check out the first book in the series. I've read a knitting series and a gardening series, but no quilting mysteries.

Oh I really am needing my quilting fix. So much so, that I sneaked into the sewing room when making beds this morning and ran up about five feet of seams on my strips for half square triangles. That's all she wrote. My DIL and I are participating in a large yard sale tomorrow morning and I've put off preparing for it until today, so I have nothing else done today but that and my daily necessary chores. I haven't done this in years, but my cup runneth over on 'stuff'. I am not a consumer, I just don't get rid of anything. I've donated so much of it, but am now to the really nicer stuff I'd like to have some recompense for, and stick away in my mad money for something special. The veggie plot is half in and I need to finish that as well as soon as possible. I suspect I shall squeeze a little time in on my quilting somewhere. My day isn't complete unless I do. Oh btw, I plugged that mangle in to do the linens for the sale. I am in love!

Would love to be sewing - and need to finish a quilt for a graduation present on the 26th, but not sure if I will get any time. Mom & MIL are leaving in the morning so tonight was spent playing cards and hanging out with them. Tomorrow I am committed to helping my son renovate a rental house he bought since the new tenants are moving in Monday. He had a new roof put on this week and tomorrow it gets a new water heater. I am going to help paint (all of the inside!) and clean. DH is taking moms to the airport and will be back to help with mowing lawn and hardware store runs. (he NEVER paints - claims he has never found a paintbrush that fits his hand!). If we don't finish tomorrow, I will be back at it on Sunday after church.

I wish I could say I was spending the day quilting but attending a local quilt show yea! Maybe later in the day I will be able to sneak in some time for me & my quilts. I need to finish a baby quilt for my nephew. Only need to quilt the last border and bind. I have to stay focused and not buy a new project at the quilt show.
