Finally found my coffee table!

After months of searching, I found a coffee table at an antique store in Hollywood. It needs a little TLC, but it's the perfect size and shape. It's two toned - brass and brushed nickel and has little ram's heads and feet as the legs. I just need to have a piece of glass made for the top and I'll be set!

Because the table was sitting outside, there is a little rust on one leg -- does anybody know how to get rust off or have any tips on cleaning brass or nickel?

Ummm...when I was a kid we used to get the rust off the chrome on our bikes with something called "Naval Jelly."

Did a quick google...read through the link below. I would use a green scrubby pad, not steel wool...

Bee, love your table (of course!). But, I gotta tell you I really appreciated the drama of having your table sold out from under you. That so sounds like something we would do. Wait to get the coupon and spend extra hours trying to pull it back together after the table gets sold out from under you. I am the person who needs to suspend my sale and step aside from the line because the coupon won't open on my phone. Also, I try to email myself what the monthly discounts are on which credit cards because 5 percent off on groceries with teenagers is worth doing. Don't even get me started on airline miles or those health savings reimbursement accounts (receipts everywhere). As my husband says, it's the game we play because we don't have unlimited money. So glad you won this round!

Oh. My. Goodness. Irony of all ironies... I bought a small table/chair set from Value City Furniture in 2001. We just finished up with our kitchen reno and have a peninsula seating area now, so I am getting rid of it. I wanted to tell you that I think my set is the "grandpa" to your set, and let me tell you, it has worn SO well. I don't even want to get rid of it, but have no space. I have moved SIX times and had TWO children since I bought the table. My kids are 2 and 5 and we use the table all the time with no special covering and it still looks great. I wound up putting my set on craigslist this weekend, and it sold immediately. Seriously, funny. There's a pic in the craigslist listing so you can see that it is sorta the same kind of set. (Oh and I paid 399 for this table and chairs in 2001). I know I am going on and on, but i just LOVED the table and thought it lasted so much better than much of my other furniture. Good luck! Omigod that photo of Santorini is gorgeous. What a great inspiration, and what a great idea--I think I'll look for places, too, instead of just pictures of kitchens for inspiration! And I really love that iridescent blue tile. A few thoughts: - Have you considered blue appliances? Or (this would be cheaper) a blue range with the other appliances being stainless or black (whatever you think looks good in context)? Fratelli Onofri has a blue 36" range (the Royal Chiantishire)--it's dark blue--and there are others in dark and/or light blue by, e.g., Aga (the Legacy), Lacanche, the Cornu Fe at Williams Sonoma, and of course special-order colors from Viking and so on. Here's the blue Fratelli: http://fratelliappliances.com/products.php?catid=1&pid=5 It's dark, so potentially a nice contrast with white cabinets and light blue accents (the tile). It's definitely DARK, though, so you may want to order color samples from Eurochef at that link(they send them for free). The Aga Legacy in blue is also dark, and about $2000+ more expensive than the fratelli. Prices just go up from there, but so do your options in terms of what shade of blue. - You'll also want some pops of gold here and there--something that makes you think of the sunset. Brushed brass fixtures, maybe? Or a few golden tiles in the backsplash? - I assume white cabinets is what you're considering. I wonder if there's a way to incorporate the curves in some of those Santorini roofs--perhaps in the style of the door, maybe a half-circle arch motif or something? - Others have already suggested blue counters. That would be GORGEOUS with white cabinets. - What kind of floor do you have? Could you do... let's see... very dark wood, like espresso, to look like earth, the surface of those mountains? Or maybe, depending how it looks with the blues you choose and the white, a Mediterranean-looking floor of terra cotta tiles with painted accent tiles? If you like the dark color idea, either wood or cork or linoleum could work . Hi again. Sorry for the delay. Holiday madness struck! I ended up using the clear torpedos for a couple of reasons. The drippy tipped ones won't work with shades when I get them. And they were just the easiest to go with when I had a thousand other things to do to prepare for the parties I was hosting that week. DH installed a dimmer, and we were good to go! I can't explain how luxurious and grown-up I feel now with the light fixtures completed in this room! ( We'll ignore the rest of the bare bulbs hanging out around the house still. One room at a time!) Now all I need to do is get some sort of little backsplash on the bar area and find a couple more antique oak chairs and that room is DONE! Hydrangea--those clear bulbs in the photos above do have a bluish tint to them. They were those clean, bright white kind of bulbs that are tinted blue. Took them back! A2--I did see and posted there last night. Not sure I had much to add other than I'm so glad your ovens were quickly and easily fixed without much fuss! fantastic, thanks for the tip mjsee! I am going to swing by Ace and see if they have any Naval Jelly. It looks like it might do the trick. I read somewhere that ketchup takes rust off brass. I tried a little this morning but it didn't really do the trick. I think I'm going to need something a little stronger.

pip, love your table and good luck in removing the rust. Is the frame solid brass or just brass plated? Would hate to see you use something too harsh on it. I had a similar table some time in the 80's and the last time we moved I gave it to a person to sell in her antique mall space. Don't think she ever paid me for it and now I wonder why on earth I thought it was dated! Dumb, dumb.

Awesome design of coffee table. It is really very new and creative pattern of coffee table. For removing the rust you should take the advice of expert who is in the profession from a long time.

thanks all! The table was a deal, too. My inspiration table I found on an auction website for $2K, and I was starting to get discouraged I was going to find something I liked that was within a reasonable budget.

I was just flipping through some back issues of Style at Home (Canadian decorating mag) and there on page 74 of the March 2011 issue was your coffee table! The owner said it was bought at the old Eatons store in Toronto in the 30"s. Small world.
