Vote for right pool finish--posted in pools (pics)

You guys are so great and I value everyone's opinion on this site. I am having a very hard choice in deciding what to choose for a pool finish. Our current concrete is cracked and looks horrible so we are investing in new overlay finish.

Not much help from pool forum and hoping that this side will be able to help me.

So vote which you like the best. Cost difference is 300.00 between the 2.

Not sure on the color of this one but the texture is there

I like the first one. The second one is common around pools I've been to and the texture tends to collect dirt and never really looks very clean after awhile. I guess you could pressure clean it, but that seems like alot of work to me!

I like the first one best. The texture of the second one is very nice but the curved lines of the first and also the variation of warmer colors looks inviting. Is your pool area also landscaped?

Another GREAT Room! I'm struggling with paint color and have test paint BM Kingsport Grey and a Brown HC19 that I'm not as fond of. I was in the egg and i last week and their yellow top and black beadboard was very nice and got me thinking that might be good downstairs. Not sure. Perimeter length : approx, 120 ft 4. Min. depth / Max. depth: 3.5 ft to 5.5 ft. 5. Avg. # persons using (in) pool at a given time during the active season: 2-4 on days when dd has friends over. 6. Max. # persons pool can accommodate comfortably (before seeming too crowded): For lap swimming one or two is fine...for playing around, five or six is okay...beyond that, it gets crowded. 7. For your usage level, would you say your pool is undersized, oversized, just right: Just right given my yard space. If I had a bigger lot, I'd love a longer and wider pool. tracyjohnson1, thanks for the compliment. It's been amazing how relaxing it has been in the pool. We swim every evening and watch the sun go down. We have enjoyed our cleaner we named Bob. The PB set him up to clean for 3 hours a day. He really does a great job. I have to use the brush to sweep off the baja shelf and the benches, but he comes along and vacuums it up off the floor of the pool. The first few days the little bag was very full of PebbleTec pebbles and rock chips from construction. Be sure and empty it every day. It is gross, but the other day we unzipped the bag and there was a dead frog in it. BLAH!! Good luck with your pool. Can't wait to see pics.

There are different types of clay, some are extremely expansive and others are actually fairly stable. It is hard to say what caused the popping in the photo without more info. Most stories of popped pools are due to the pool being empty and then the water table rises due to excessive rains. When that happens it basically floats the pool right out of the hole. But since your neighbor's pool had water in it when it popped, I'm guessing you're sitting on some very expansive clays and possibly his pool was installed during dry conditions and it rose 4" after some wetter weather as the clays expanded. Then when he emptied it, it made things worse because the water table was so high it just floated the pool. If you are on highly expansive clays, you need to be very concerned about the subgrade prep regardless of what kind of pool you put in. There are things that can be done such as installing the pool on piers, moisture treating the subgrade, installing a drainage system and/ or over-excavating the dig and putting in select fill. I would highly recommend getting a structural engineer involved through the PB. If the PB says not to worry about it, they do this all the time and it will be fine; then look for another PB! I have an in-ground pool and if I had those options for a re-do, I'd choose the first one. It looks fresh and adds a nice decorative look to your back yard.

I guess one thing to consider is will one crack easier or faster than the others based on materials used and decorative finish? Are they equally comfy on bare feet?

I have the second one, and Carol is right...it does collect dirt. It looks great when it is clean, tho! I shop vac every month or more, spot-sweep as needed, wash with the hose when it starts to get a bit spotty, and power wash 2x/year. Keeps it looking pretty good.

You're talking about the DECK? Or the POOL interior?

If it's the pool interior, I definitely prefer the Pebbletek in the second photos, and disagree with the 'looking dirty' comments. (Had one - loved it!)

But if it's the deck, I strongly prefer the first -- but with reservations.

There's GREAT textured concrete that looks almost exactly like natural stone, GOOD textured concrete that looks like good concrete, and SCARY-BAD textured concrete that looks like faux something. IMO, there are few things worse than BAD textured concrete, and for top coats, much more often than not, that's what you get.

It's the 'surface texture' where most of these coatings seem to fall VERY short, so I would absolutely NOT buy from a photo without inspecting an actual installation in person.

You have helped me make my decision. I am going with option #1. I just think this is something that is not seen around every pool. The cleaning issue was another important issue I had never thought of and cleaning is not something I enjoy but I don't want it to look dirty either. So option 1 will be my best choice--even though I liked both.
