I Locked My Husband Out of The House and Other Stuff

I locked my husband out of the house last night. He never locks the door when he comes in. He had come home and sometime later I got up and locked the front door. Well it was after 8, I hear this rattling and noise at the front door, not knocking to come in, and I go and there he is. I asked him what are you doing. He says I'm trying to get into the house. I said what are you doing out there? I have have been weed eating says he! That stupid grass tickler he has doesn't make much noise at all so how was I to know he was out there playing with it.

I couldn't fall asleep last evening so I spend some time on the computer,.Around 10:30 I thought I should take Izzi out and go to bed. About that time Mr. You Know Who comes ranting out of his room. Apparently he has lost his cell phone out while playing with his grass tickler. He says I can't look for it until tomorrow, I'll never find it. I told him I will go get my cell phone and call it and you can find it. Oh, I guess that would work! Duh! So he gets his flash light and out we go. After about trying to call it 3 times we hear it and he finds it. Happy ending. I am glad we did go out last night instead of this morning as it sprinkled some overnight here.

The lock out was an innocent mistake. Your idea to call his cell phone to find it was a good one -- we've had to do that before.

I hope today is hassle-free for the two of you!

My husband always locks me out. He comes out, tells me hi, after he gets home from work, and then, when I try to come in, I am locked out. I don't mess around in the yard anymore without having a key along. ;)

Good for you for getting your stock organized. I actually love my small pantry and I like to keep it organized. I do need to get into the home canned jars and see if any of them need to be tossed. I stock up to like Nicole and I am a budget, thrifty shopper. Cathy from Idaho mentioned couponing a few days back and I decided to drag out my coupon box and start using it again. I did a little research and found out how to really do the coupon thing to your advantage. Oh and I saw that couponing show.....how sad that those people do that....How can anyone use 300 toothbrushes or like you said soda......I've had soda taste bad in just a matter of a few months.....The point is to buy exactly what you know you will use and stock up. I love having a stash and I always have paper products and cleaning supplies as well as food...Our Albertson's has great buys of meat for loss leaders and I take advantage.........

No no no no no ....no, I could not go in through the front because the door of the enclosure was locked which means neither I nor anyone could get to the front door without breaking the glass. When i walked back to the door my intention was to open that door and just go on carefully. if they had to redo so be it. A lot of people actually think that is the front door and knock on the glass when they come so that we have learned to tell people who are coming for the first time that they have to enter that "room" first So it was not so much of a security thing as it sounds. I rekeyed all the locks at work, changing a few out so that all the keyways were the same, Schlage SC-1. The hard part was figuring out just how master keying works, there being masters, grand masters, janitors, restricted janitors, departments, sub departments, common, and guest keys. Those are my names, not official jargon names. Once that was done, I had a scheme that worked, so I did our house too. We have master keys (the 'rents), common keys (the younger people we were stuck with for eighteen years), and neighbor keys (can't get into the bedrooms or storage closets of the above key holders). Then my wife said to me something like "I wish MY work was that easy..." So I did that too. Except for one high security lock at the first job, and an odd gate key at my wife's job, one key opened all the locks at three different locations. Pure luck! We just couldn't tell anyone... PS: all our padlocks are high quality brass rekeyable ones (old habit from a hard learned lesson), so they were included in all that, so that's four locations if you include the rental storage site. One master key (on a very small key ring).

Debra, if this is your first home and you have a typical first time home buyers budget there is going to be a lot of compromise. Most of us don't get everything we want in our first home, and sometimes we never own our "dream home". The important thing is that being able to buy your first home puts you in the game. Try to find a home that is in a decent neighborhood that has good bones and won't need a ton of updates to be comfortable. The kitchen may have wood cabinets and you may prefer white, but more important - are there enough cabinets to hold your dishes and are they in decent shape. You can live with wood, but you can't live with cabinets that are falling off the walls or have shelves that bow in the middle. Making sure the home has been maintained and the roof, HVAC, plumbing, foundation, windows and doors are in good shape is important. You can improve the colors and make things pretty, but as long as it functions well that can come in time. Find your home, move in, live there for a year, figure out how your budget is working with the added expense of home ownership. Keep a journal of the things that work and don't work for how you live. Plan a renovation budget and tackle the biggest pain points first. This is a marathon and you have many years to accomplish you goals.

A friend of mine lost his cell while he was mowing and tried calling it from the cordless phone. Forgot that he had it set on vibrate only! But he was lucky he happened to see the grass move a bit and was more concerned about rodents than realizing his phone was on vibrate so he went to investigate and there was his phone, dancing in the grass.

It's a habit to automatically lock the door soon as we come in, nowadays.

It's a GOOD habit to lock the doors when you're outside. More burglaries are happening in broad daylight with the people in backyards leaving the front door or garage unlocked.

Jasdip, that is about all that thing is, is a grass tickler. He saw the infomercial and had to get it I guess. It is a grass trimmer, not a weed eater. We have more weeds than grass living with trees and lots of yard. It came with two batteries and it doesn't last long with as much as a person needs to do around here with the weeds. He never locks the doors, even if no one else is home and he leaves! So I always have to lock it before going to bed. Never a dull moment!

I once lost my cellphone when I was outdoors weeding. I looked and looked but couldn't find it because the grass was so tall. ouldn't you know the landscapers came the next day to cut our grassa ? I found it after they had left, totally mangled by the mowers. And I did NOT have any insurance on it.

I've locked DH out several times,his fault though!! Hahahaha I always lock the door when i go in and out and so does my 10 yr old gs who comes here everyday b4 school and after.Now DH is another story,he not only leaves the door unlocked,he'll leave the garage door 1/2 way open.When i go out to work in the yard i always have an extra key in my pocket,and the cell phone with me,and make sure the gate to the backyard is also closed.

Marlingardener, no I am not from Texas. However, my husband has been threatening to run away to either California or Texas. He has been threatening to do this for 45 years or so. He never keeps his promises!

he wouldn't like ca after having the clean air of the mid-west...

dh lost his phone this past winter..i called his several times and nothing...finally was shoveling off the walkway and bingo! there it was! the battery had fallen out...the snow did ruin it, though...

Marlingardener I would love to hear about the possum that visited your home on New Year's Day. I have had a duck come down the chimney and a squirrel come in the dryer vent into the dryer.

Dh left his cell phone in the back yard on a lawn chair and our Pit Bull Sara thought it was a chew toy. He has also forgotten to zip up his bag on his snowmobile and lost, then run over his iPhone AND our sons iPhone! Not to mention the truck keys. And they were a few hours from home.

on our first date, I locked my ex DH's keys in his car. He asked me to put them in my purse, I tossed my purse back in the car at the last second....a couple hours later in the pouring rain, I realize my error...

Okay Marilyn, this is the 'possum story. On New Year's morning, about 1 am, we woke up cold. My husband got up to see why, and the back door had blown open (in Texas even locked doors can blow open with our gentle breezes). He shut it and was heading back to bed when he glimpsed movement toward the study. Thinking it was the cat, he kept going to the bed, where our cat was sleeping on the quilt (a watchcat, she isn't). He checked, and there was a full grown possum wandering around the study (looking for something to read?). He started shooing the possum back to the door (shut) and trying to get the door open and the possum convinced to leave. He finally set up a slalom course with chairs to guide the possum out. When he came back to bed, I asked him what happened and he told me. Half asleep, I replied, "Well, thank heavens it wasn't a skunk." He couldn't get back to sleep for quite a while.

LOL Sue...I've locked my DH out on occasion...and he's done the same to me...I guess we should hide a key outside...
