We have said our vows to one another and made the committment, but haven't filed the papers yet..... so it really isn't legal yet..... .. BUT..... we are going to have a wedding ceremony in our church sometime soon.....with photographer and our wonderful pastor officiating...Just got a few things to iron out first... then Katy, bar the door.. we will rush to the alter with our dear friends and kin in attendance... =0)

Hello everyone... I haven't had much time to spend online lately. Carol is right, my beloved Bob passed away yesterday afternoon at 1:00 pm. Two weeks from tomorrow, he fell while trying to put his jeans on while s tanding up instead of using the bench.. and broke his left hip.. He got through the surgery great, but then when he was transferred to the rehab center, he suffered a heart attack, an pneumonia, so they transported him back to the hospital, where they found he had a high fever, and his kidneys were shutting down.... One thing led to another and he passed away yeaterday.... I am still in a state of total shock and it hurts worse than I ever thought I could hurt. I am honored that you like my recipe for the honey wheat bread... I love to play with my food and that includes baking bread... nevah know what you will make that you just don't want to live without... Enjoy everyone. xoxo Carolyn

Ya wanna know why there's no snow up there? It's all those Canadian beer fridges causing global warming. Don't believe me? Hey, check out the scientific report at the link. (Climate scientists would never say anything less than scrupulously honest, would they?) Yeah, I always knew there was something sinister about those Molson-swilling, 'eh'-saying, hockey loving people... (This is, of course, totally tongue in cheek...some of the greatest times in my life have been in Canada, and I wish all countries in the world got along with each other as well as Canada and its sometimes rambunctious southern neighbor...) Here's her recipe. My "go to" recipe now too. I use chopped dill pickles. Tartar Sauce 1 Cup Hellmans Mayo or another good quality mayo (Please no miracle whip) 2 Tablespoons of finely minced onion 2 Tablespoons of finely minced dill pickle 2 Tablespoons chopped parsley Fresh Lemon juice to taste Mix it all together and serve... I always use dill pickle instead of sweet pickle because I do not like sugar on my fried catfish....and I primarily use the tartar sauce on catfish. It will last a couple of weeks at least, but I don't know for sure just how long it will be good for because it is never around long enough to know for sure.

Thank you for all the good comments and well wishes. We have a basic permanent menu that we take orders for and make extras of the more popular items with different specials every day. Today our specials were hot roast beef and gravy rolls, oven baked potato wedges and porcupine meatballs with tomato gravy and mashed potatoes. Tomorrow is Sloppy Joes (would you believe these are a novelty here?), hot dogs and macaroni cheese. The macaroni cheese was slow to take off until the kids realised it's the same thing as "mac and cheese". These are very culturally impoverished kids in the main and I find it really sad. One student had never heard of or eaten macaroni cheese, one can only despair at what the home diet is...or isn't. Our hamburgers and chicken burgers are all made from fresh meat (I even grind the chicken myself because it's cheaper), as opposed to the previous manager's bought in patties made of Lord knows what part of the animal (well it claims 100% beef but doesn't say which bit). We buy fresh chickens, boil them and strip the meat off for our chicken and salad sandwiches, hot chicken and mayo rolls and chicken quesadillas (still trying to teach them how to say that one :-) ) instead of buying bags of pre-chopped plastic chicken from the frozen food section like most places do- and it's been noticed :-). We make filled and toasted foccacia sandwiches, pulled pork and coleslaw rolls, lasagne, tacos, pizza, shepherd's pie and in summer our own sushi. Fried rice has been a runaway best seller. I'm learning a lot of the kids' names because I introduced a Loyalty Card system where they get a dinosaur stamp every time they pre-order their lunch, and after ten stamps they get a free muffin :-) I write their names on the cards and then remember them when I give out the lunches. I'm kind of amazed because usually I have a terrible time remembering faces and names :-) I really enjoy working with the kids and it's not hard to be a smiley Canteen lady most of the time- we have a few students with behaviour issues and I just let them know that if they want to behave badly they can do it somewhere else. I'm pleased to say it stops right away :-) I even get smiles and waves when I'm at the store after school and whispers of "Hey Mum, it's the Canteen lady" which really gives me a boost. I work hard at promoting the Canteen because we have a really large student body but I'd say maybe only 10% used the Canteen when I started. If we could get more of the students in we could put on more staff and open more serving windows: we have six but only use two (and when I started they only used one and it was so unwelcoming looking). Now we're seeing new faces every day so I'm hoping the word is getting out. Because we're not in the middle of the campus we're easy to overlook and I figured that just sitting back and thinking good thoughts at the kids wasn't going to bring in new customers :-) DH and I brainstorm ideas often. Next week I'm going to run a "Vote for Friday's special" campaign to try to generate some more buzz. This Friday we're having Curry Day with Thai chicken curry and beef curry. While I do look forward to my time off I'm really enjoying my job and get a lot more satisfaction from it than I have in a while.

Don't get excited folks....LOL.. I AM a Christian.... just not a perfect Christian, but a Christian nonetheless.... and that is precisely why we won't do certain things in our relationship until after the papers have been filed at the courthouse and the ink is dry... and then probably not even then, but will wait until after the wedding ceremony at our church.... after all... at 71 and 68 years old, our hormones are hardly raging like a couple of kids........... and with all our health issues... we are content to just hug and hold hands and are thankful for all that God does bless us with.......I know,...probably TMI... but hey... I am not ashamed of who I am in Christ... or how I am living...

It is okay for folks to judge me... and I am not at all offended.... we all do that from time to time... nobody is immune or so perfect that we don't commit some sort of sin each and every day...but as a Christian.. I am bought and paid for by the blood of my Lord... and as such know that I am forgiven ... and besides.. I worry much less about what the world thinks of me.. because after all... God knows our hearts and He knows our thoughts and actions as well... .even before we think them.. and I consider Him far more important that those of this world...

We are quite happy......and we do have a very blessed relationship...and so with the time our Lord allows us... we intend to travel around and enjoy our
"lives and our families... and friends while we are still able to ..

Carolyn, I wish you hadn't found it necessary to apologize and explain your relationship to someone who's opinion doesn't mean a hill of beans. Only you and God know what's in your heart--and I wish you both a long and loving life together. And ignore the ignorant.

What is the true blessing here is that God led you to each other in the first place. To be able to share your time together at this stage of your lives is a wonderful thing. It is so rewarding to have another person who can share these days and events with you. I wish you both an awesome and fun filled adventure through life together.

Patti... I didn't apologize for anything... just telling it like it is..Since haven't done anything wrong, I don't have anything to apologize for... It is just that some folks don't understand what a marriage really is.... It isn't dried ink on a document.. it is a matter of the heart and of the soul.... Since our vows were taken in the presence of a pastor, it is a biblical union, but not yet a secular union...

Raven... we truly are blessed, and I so thank Almighty God for putting us together..... God knew Larry needed to know what a dedicated Christian really is and I needed a man that was willing to love me for who I am, and not who he thought he could turn me into...

Yep, God knew exactly what He was doing here.. and I am grateful to be blessed beyond what I could ever deserve... Although I loved my late husband... he wasn't the man my heart longed for, while Larry is... and we intend to live our lives together as long as the Lord will allow....
