Might get a chance to do some more machine applique on this evolving thing I'm calling "Tree of Life". I've got all the leaves on the tree that I want, now I've got to try to draft out some fruits. Then I'll either do some birds or some flowers, etc. on the branches and around the the base of the tree roots. I have a sun that I put on the upper right corner in the sky and am wondering how to suggest some sun rays coming down without getting too busy with it. Maybe some metallic gold threads??? When I have all the applique work done on it I am going to stitch around all the edges, then I'm not sure whether I will go ahead and make the sandwich and proceed from there or do some thread-painting first. I guess if I do the thread-painting after the sandwich that would count as machine-quilting, huh? This is one of those spontaneous, plan as I go deals. I hope it turns out. I was also thinking of doing some scripture work all around the edge about the tree of life, but there isn't that much in the Bible when you actually research it and planning out phrases is touchy, if you don't plan it out right it gets messed up. Also I don't think the font size on my machine is very big, I might have to re-think that. I was also wondering if I could get some kind of stream or pond going on the ground so that I could include a couple of fish. Oh, yeah, and I was thinking of some animals, this might be over the top, we'll see.

I'm going to try to get in some quilting. I just bought a brand new Janome 6600P and I'm getting my Viking ready to trade in (this coming Tuesday). But I really need to get in my quilt room because I'm excited and nervous about the new machine and I need to "Zen" out a little. ~LOL~

No quilting for me! I'm off to see family and collect my sister's dog for a month while they're on a big, big, vacation to Italy.

No quilting for me, either. It's gardening, outside painting and taking care of oldsters so DH can have two days off. He often returns the favor so he's entitled. I volunteer on trains and work the train snack bar Monday but otherwise will work around home most all the weekend.

I'm trying to finish quilting my Spring Sample Fab Shop quilt. I have to have it finished by next Sat. Not my favoite thing to do in quilting. And then their will be family tomorrow. Jayne

Up here in Winnipeg...they are predicting rain for most of the weekend...I want to get all my bedding plants out of the front porch so that I can set up my quilting frame there...then when it rains I can quilt and look at my gardens...we had our holiday last weekend...spent it at the lake working as usual...hope you all have a wonderful Memorial Day holiday...enjoy

We aren't doing anything special. DD and family plan to head out to Daytona Beach for the day tomorrow but maybe DGS will be staying with us as he isn't feeling well.

I hope to get a couple quilts really close to being completed this week-end and finishing up a top. Need to finish the Seasonal Challenge, too.

I hope I will. I've certainly got enough projects stacked up and one deadline breathing down my neck. But, the truth is, I spent the whole morning on a caravan from store to store shopping for the holiday. I'll start cooking tonight and probably cook most of tomorrow. Mon I'll be BBQing a huge pork roast and we'll have family here probably most of the day. Sooooo, I'm not sure when quilting shoehorns in. But I want to at least get that cottage top ready to ship out for quilting on Tues. am.

I'm going to re-do the sky to be less blotchy and overcast looking. And my current thinking is to re-do the far meadow as purple mountains.

I've got to re-do this fast because the baby that's coming is a little boy and I had this much of the quilt done before it occurred to me that lambies are probably NOT what a little boy most wants. =o So I think this will get all its use within about a 2 year window and then have to be replaced with construction vehicles or something. ;>

I have to work this weekend but hubby is helping a friend move out of state so he will not be around . . . soooo after work I'm hoping to work on a day/night quilt. I have the right and left triangles cut and now ready to sew them together to make the squares. OR I'll cut out strips for a quilt for my sister in law. Depends on my mood.

I think (hope) I'll get some quilting done tomorrow and Moday. I planted flower boxes for the deck today and most of that is finished. I bought fabric today (as if I didn't have enough at home) to make a runner for a high school friend and his wife. We haven't seen each other in many years. We are all turning 60 this year (yikes!!) and he is hosting a 60th birthday party at his house. He thought this was a good idea instead of a regular reunion. He has gotten quite a response. Anyway, I thought it would be nice to make them something. The party is July 17th. People are coming from all over the country. I'm looking forward to it. Soooooooooooo-I do hope to quilt this weekend. I have baby quilts to finish, also. Have a good holiday everyone. Eileen

My weekend started Friday, and I've been mostly sewing! I'm working on 12 little quilts for the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative. I need to get them done in time for them to take them to the Houston show. Four are complete; I'm working on the next-to-last top. After that I have one more top, then layer, quilt & bind the last eight.

My sewing room is still in disarray after the flooding I had back in April so it's not very pleasant down there. I do have a binding to sew on and am busy working in the yard. Also DD is home for a week's vacation.

OMG! Did you have quilts and a sewing machine involved in flooding? I dearly hope not because it's hard to imagine more of a heartbreaker.

Insurance would, I guess, replace a sewing machine but how does anyone replace your hard work and anticipation?!

Well, the porch is cleaned and the cover is off of the pool. I got into the pool yesterday to clean some leaves out of the center. DH is replacing the sand in the filter today and then we can hook up the hoses. The water to fill it has been started. NOW... I can sew.
I plan to make a couple blocks for the BOM at guild on Tues. I have the fabric selected and am ready to start it!

We had storms yesterday, this AM, and prob more for tomorrow so we plan to stay close to home and cookout between storms.
DH is watching the ladies college world series. He is from AZ and they are doing pretty good.
I plan to start the applique flowers for my borders.
Maybe I will be able to garden a little, it's so much easier after a rain.

Sewing? Hah. I did take some embroidery with me yesterday when I went to babysit my newest g'child. LOL. He slept maybe twenty minutes the whole day.

No, although I miss my little hideaway in the sewing room, I have to get plants put in the ground to take advantage of the rain coming tomorrow. I want to have all my flowers planted by the end of the month and I don't think it's going to happen. I also have a large plot of corn to sow this weekend.

My son is got a bug, and myh DD has to work tomorrow, so I am not planning a big meal. I shall be taking arrangements to the cemetery later today when the heat hits. It's just low eighties now but to hit ninety.

It looks like summer chores has priority with everyone right now! I haven't even walked into the sewing room yet. I spent most of the morning stripping pine needles off of the branches of 3 pine trees my husband cut down because the power company came along and butchered them AGAIN. They do this every couple of years and the way they wack the trees up they will never amount to anything and they look just awful. So this is free mulch, just time-consuming. Also walked way out to the corner of the property to the pond, he told me an interesting looking plant was blooming out there, so I had to take the camera out to photograph it. I'm doing an album of all the native plants on our 5 acres. Maybe tomorrow I'll mosey into the sewing room ...maybe not.

Between the yard work and baking I have so far squeezes in time to complete one purse that I need for a gift next weekend. Tomorrow I plan to organize some of my projects so I can 'pick up and go' and get something done among my many UFO's!
I can almost find some time each day to tinker in the sewing room!

DH asked if I would be willing to make a quilt for his niece, who lives in England. I have met her, but only once. I liked her, though, so I said yes.

He had been looking at one of my quilting books, found a pattern, and wanted a quilt "just like that", colors and all, LOL. I don't recall ever making someone else's pattern that closely, but we went shopping at the LQS and found 4 of the 5 fabrics needed. I ordered the fifth, which will also be the backing.

So, since it is such a structured pattern, I was able to start on the pieced border today. 32 of 116 flying geese units so far. It will be lovely, but I feel a bit strange following a "recipe".

Yes, I was able to get more done than I thought, yeah!! It rained a lot more than was originally predicted, so I had the time. We'd planned on working outside, and didn't even get started until yesterday afternoon. So, I got the top done for dh's quilt (carpenter's wheel). I'm very pleased with how it came out since I had to do all the math to get 6" squares. Now, I need to find some stencils to quilt it!

imrainey, I love that log cabin!! It will be (already is!) beautiful!!

I spent Thursday night thru yesterday at the mountains quilting away with my buddies! I worked on the birthday blocks, made a child's apron for a customer, worked on another bubble quilt, and learned something new - wrapped rope bowls! We had a great time....no TV, no radio, very few phone calls, some rain, no shopping - but heck! we didn't even step out of the cabin except to eat and cook out on the deck. Just lots of sewin' and gabbin' going on - oh! and there was plenty of food, enough in case we had a freak blizzard! Just the kind of quilt retreat we like!
