polaris d'light vs color glo led vs intellibrite vs colorlogic 4.

Hi all, after quite some lurking we built our pool from many suggestions and even posted pics on this blog site for help (Our New Pool Build in Jacksonville, FL). We did a NO-NO due to our inexperience (and against our PB's recommendations) and placed our pool light facing the house. We placed it under our sheer decent as we wanted it lighted up at night. It works well when the sheer decent is running however the gare is very bothersome when we turn off the sheer decent. I have put in a dimmer switch and added colored lenses but I am still not very happy. The light is a Pentair # 78928500, R-40 120v 300w light.

We are considering changing out the light bulb to a Color Glo LED or Polaris D'Light or replacing the light with an IntelliBrite or ColorLogic 4.0. We would appreciated all suggestions. The object is the least expensive way to cut down on the glare (without having to add another light on the opposite side of the pool) Please to all that have these lights in your pool, Would you send me pics of your lights, include the make and model number of your light, taking the pic directly facing the camera at the light so that I can compare the glare from the light? Hi Brentr,

I actually did some testing for a client asking the very same questions you are regarding IntelliBrite vs. ColorLogic 4.0 many months ago and posted my results here:

I think the main benefit for you by going with the IntelliBrite is that it uses a special lens and reflector to keep the light in the pool. There is very little glare that escapes the pool. The Hayward light is just a bunch of unfiltered LEDs so there is a lot of glare. You will see it in the link above.

landa mac, thank you for the link and the testing. Can I assume that the glare from the hayward colorlogic 4.0 is the same as my existing 300w pentair light therefore I should expect to have a glare reduction??
Sorry for the qustions however this seems to really bother me and I do not want to go thru the trouble and expense of replacing the whole light if I do not see any reduction of results.
What are your thoughts on the LEDs that directly screw in to my existing light socket? Have you any tests on these or do you know anyone that would be willing to send me pics looking directly at the lights?

The controller will give you a lot for the money . Such as setting the colors as well as different color modes, checking the salinity of you water controlling your VS pump startup priming speed and running speeds. And you can also use one of the extra contacts for landscape lighting or anything else you want to put on a timer...yes the booster can run on a timer through it as well. look at the new energy saving booster pump by Pentair also. I would go with a IC 40 salt system it will run less and last longer....

I am starting to worry about the slope of the deck near the house. It slopes toward the house, but we did not install drains there. We put a drain in a low spot in front of the existing patio. Builder said that would be the proper thing to do. I am looking at the deck that slopes toward the flower bed along side the back of the house. The lot slopes gently toward the deep end of the pool. Thoughts?

I missed that it was a T2 which does have the 2" up pipe inside but it's still undersized for your pool, IMHO. The discharge port is in the way of the cover removal tool on the Super II with 2" plumbing. I don't like needing a special tool for the cover. I just love how manufacturers play games with impeller sizes and"Standard vs Energy Efficient"(Hayward) or "Standard vs Up-Rated" (Pentair). Same motors. Different impellers. There's a reason over 3 million Super Pumps have been put in service. Simple to work on, fairly reliable as induction motor pumps go, and easy to use and cheap. Please understand, I prefer Pentair/Sta-Rite products. But thats not to say I won't suggest what I think is right with other vendors gear. Scott

Can anyone advise me on my problem? I have Jandy filter, 2 Jandy pool lights and 1 Jandy spa light. After only 1.5 years both pool lights in the pool went out within days of each other. My pool guy is impossible to reach and difficult to deal with, but he finally said he’d replace them if we buy new ones. So we paid him for 2 new lights (Pentair Intellibright) for $1,700. I asked him why he didn’t get us the Jandy like we already had (that changes to 17 or so colors) and he said it doesn’t matter and there are better. Well..... long story short — his guys were here and cannot pull the wires out to install the new light. I don’t know why and neither to they. So they cut the light out with about 3” of wire and the other end is just a dangling wire in the pool. He says he’s done and they cannot Pull it — it’s stuck. We are trying to get someone else but don’t know if we should get the Jandy lights instead. It will be impossible getting our money back for these lights We use aqua link app to work pool lights, filter etc. are these Intellibright compatible with our app system and Jandy spa light. I am so disgusted and maddened bec we spent a fortune on our pool, patio etc. and we are stuck. P.S. another company first came when we saw the lights didn’t work and they also could not pull the wire through. The piping is underneath our new stone patio. And advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

Get the IntelliBrite. As landa_mac says, the reflector and lens design focuses more light down and into the pool. That said, you will still have some direct light but it will be less than with any other option.

As for the screw-in LEDs... They don't have the lens/reflector design that the IntelliBrites do so it's unlikely to help in your situation.

You will experience a large glare reduction with the IntelliBrite. Pentair designed a clear plastic reflector mechanism that sits on top of the LED's. This is what allows them to direct the light into the pool (and not out of it).
