auntjen - yeah i was thinking twists. I pictured the legs to look better than they do and it's actually the top that looks bettr than i pictured. go figure!

I have noooo idea what to put on it. The picture frame i wanted to use it too big. You can't just sit one thing on it because that looks goofy. Tall, skinny lamp? Can one have too many lamps? I also have some really pretty flower arrangements from my wedding that i didn't/can't part with. They're not cheesy silk florals. I'll have to try some different stuff. If anyone has any ideas ....hollar!

Definitely the corner. I think your entry area is too crowded with a table there, and it kind of looks lost on the long wall.

In the LR it is too small for the space - something weightier like a bombe (not bombay, fwiw) chest would be good there. The other furniture in the room is pretty large, and the little table seems too skimpy.

It is a charming piece, tho. I would do a green plant (fern type ) on the bottom shelf, and a cute buffet lamp on the top, along with a grouping of nice leather-bound books and bookends on the top. Then hang some decorative plates in a grouping above the table.

les - think i should put any type of table or bench in the foyer? if i put a table should it more longer and skinnier? which wall would you hang the decorative plates on? the one you see when you walk in (straight on)

this is what i currently have on it. worried about my kitties with a plant on the bottom.it will probably end up all over the house. i may try it just to see. don't think this frames goes as well in my LR as i originally had wanted it to. i liked the yellow against the dark wood. bought this arrangement a couple of years ago and still don't have a place for it. I may take out or cut down the long, closed magnolias. Thoughts?

I agree with Les--put it in the corner with a green plant below. For your foyer, I prefer to see more of a console table (long and skinny) that has some storage to it so the table doesn't get clutted on top and a mirror above; a buffet lamp and large flower arrangement or deocrative storage box. The mirror will make it feel more open. You could put a chair or umbrella stand to one side of the table if you have need of it.

val- i'll keep my eyes peeled for something in the foyer. the only reason i suggested maybe the bench is because #1 DH wanted a bench for some reason. and #2 i wasn't sure if having two tables that close together was odd. i have a couple of mirrors i want to use somewhere. one would look good in the foyer. i don't know that they'd be enough room for a chair in the foyer too.

should i lose the arrangement i have above on the table? again, it is back in the corner.

A bench could work as well. I'd just like to see some wall decor above it and would be nice to see a mirror somewhere there. With the table in the corner it would be difficult to do one there.

Perhaps Les or someone else has some better ideas.

I love that table. And I like the frame and arrangement, but do you have a little 3rd something to add, like things in 3s and fives etc. And you can put something on the bottom shelf- with cats- good luck with a plant- even fake! How about a pretty box? or since it is summer a large conch shell?

And roccoco in IMHO means too much carving for its own good! But it is a french piece and not free but still good price. And I may paint it. fun fun!

val - les mention above about a lamp. i love lamps but i'm sure i'll end up with one in the foyer area. too many? Should i add a lamp to the arrangement i have?

i do have a couple mirrors i really like but they're not really big and i'm afraid to hang anything on my walls yet since i change my mind a lot! saw a really nice mirror on CL the other week for $45. french looking. had some nice ornate details. i could've painted the frame. i'm sure it's gone now. *sigh*

cooper- i know the table needs something else. i tried adding a candle, some different odds and ends. so far nothing has worked. Really think i should def. put something on the bottom shelf? does it look empty/unfinished without?

Yeah we did buy the cabinet on CL. First, we picked up the free wicker loveseat in my van (Note to DH -ok so now I get why I should get measurements BEFORE we go to pick something up.) We then bought the cabinet for $100( DH negotiated) he is a good sport!( I dragged him to look at an oriental rug that didnt pan out the evening before...

Try putting the plant below. The problem is your two items are both of similar scale. It's nice to see something more vertical, like a lamp or candle holder. The pic is nice. You can raise the height with either a little picture stand or prop on a book.

Did you get the mirror? I also have a similarly shaped hallway. I did an oval mirror in mine which helps offset some of the linear nature of the room. I also added a wall tapestry which filled an empty wall where there was not any space to put a piece of furniture.

cooper - just saw the front porch thread with your roses! it does look like something off a magazine cover! can't wait to see the loveseat!

val - i think i remember seeing a thread you posted that had a small wood table, oval mirror, and a sconce light above?? looked/s nice! I couldn't find that mirror on CL. I'm sure it went the same day. Was probably too big for my foyer though. i have a couple oval mirrors. i'll take some pics tonight.
I know what you mean about the same scale. I slapped a candle there last night because it was bugging me but it's still not right. I'll keep searching for something. Should the plant be on the small scale size? probably don't want it to cover the entire bottom.

I wish I knew how to use photoshop and I could help you, though I still struggle with my table top decor. Squirel has been helpful to me Ps'ing plants in my living room, which is probably why I have more there today than I would've otherwise. If would look very nice with a fern below in a wicker type pot in case the cat knocks it over. Would she play with the leaves?

Here are a few pics of my entryway which you can see is also rectangular and a very awkward space to decorate. It's too big to leave complete empty, but I cannot put much there without it feeling cramped. My table location is not ideal as you see the side view more often than not. I may add a rug in front of the door (if I ever get around to choosing my LR/DR rugs) plus I may add a pic on the wall opposite the entry table.

For the table decor items, you can find some interesting items at Home Decorators, Michaels, Kohl's, Linen's 'n Things, etc. and Lowe's or a nursery is a good place to find plants and a wicker type planter. Also you need to think about what you want to put on the walls before finalize the table decor so that one does not block another, unless it's a mirror as the mirror can reflect the item (like the backside of a lamp or flowers). Are you thinking of painting your entry? Perhaps the same color as your LR? It would look nice in some of the green shades you were considering for your LR or alternatively a tan/gold color that compliments it? How about your drapes?

Just open up dgmarie's thread about her lamps and thought something like her sofa table would look very nice in your entry. Don't you like how she has decorated the shelf at the base? Perhaps it'd give you some ideas.

I do plan on painting the foyer. i have the whole house needs painted. white, white everywhere. Since i'm leaning for green in the LR i think i'm going to aim for a cream/gold color in the foyer/hallway. Not sure if i dare paint them separte colors since it's they're not huge areas.

Do you really think i should do a table another table in the foyer? I'll then have two tables only a couple feet apart on the same side of the wall. need to be sure before i end up buying a table because i'll be stuck with it.

The other thing i'm somewhat concerned about is my mini chandy is pewter, the piping in the door is pewter and so is my floor vent. I tend to gravitate towards golds for decoration so this should be interesting.

I like dgmarie's table. Will an oval mirror look alright with a longer table? i guess that would depends on the sizes of both.
