Tomorrow's Appointment for DGS

Nathan and his parents will be going to see the neurosurgeon and radiologist tomorrow (I don't know if these are spelled right, but you know what I mean). I asked Monica (my DD) what kind of tumor (there's 3 kinds that I've seen listed that are on the brain stem) did they say he had. She hesitated in telling me the name. And she said they told her not to be searching on the internet about them, as there is nothing encouraging or positive in the info they put out there about them. I think it's called a Glioma tumor. I do know the neurosurgeon they have is the BEST in the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Even other Dr's agree this is who they'd want working with their families.

So I'm asking again for prayers for something positive tomorrow. We know it'll be a long road ahead, but praying for a little light to focus on.

My first set of holes I got at the Dr's office for my 16th birthday -- no ice, just a poke through the earlobe -- I was so shocked with the first one, it didn't hurt, but the second.... My second set of holes I got on a business trip to St. Louis when I was 32-33 or so. It was at a booth in a mall, with the sterile studs & stud gun. My third set of holes I got when I turned 40, again at a mall jewelry booth, sterile studs & stud gun. I really wanted a last set of holes at the top of the ear, through the cartilege, but every woman I asked said that they took forever to heal and they regretted doing it. So I decided that three sets of holes are enough. Top holes - diamond studs with threaded posts. Middle holes - diamond huggie hoops. Bottom holes - whatever I want to wear that day -- lately, gold hoops. I sleep with the top and middle earrings in place.

I finally got up the nerve to go this week to the spa. I originally set up an appointment for a mani/pedi one day and waxing the next day. But the more I thought about it, the more I didn’t want that much exposure. All of my appointments are scheduled to be the first of the day. The protocols seems to be the same as most of you have experienced: stay in the car, everyone wearing masks, etc. The spa usually has flavored water and a dish of nuts and/or crackers. They’ve stopped that. They also ask that you leave as much as possible in the car. Bring in no food or drinks. They are scheduling a 15 minute buffer between clients to allow time for adequate sanitizing. I cancelled the mani/pedi and just got an acrylic dip on a nail that splits. The manicurist had certain tools that could be sterilized. The buffers could not be sterilized so she would have to just throw them away. I suggested that she give those to me and I would save them and she could use them on me the next time. Also, the acrylic dip is a natural color that she uses only for me. The waxing was interesting. Legs were done as normal but with both of us wearing masks. Face was interesting. The esthetician would pull my mask up or down depending on where she was working. Week after next, I get a hair cut. 👏 I’m letting the color grow off, so I’m going to get a very short pixie cut. I have an appointment for a cut only, no blow dry, no color. The stylist and I will discuss what, if any, coloring needs to be done to make the transition from medium warm brown to whatever color my hair is going to be when it isn’t colored. I’m having a hard time telling. Apparently, my hair grows very slowly. My last cut was Feb 26 and I have less than an inch of roots. Next on my list is getting a massage. The massage therapist I go to has always seemed very conscientious about cleanliness, so I don’t expect that her standards have fallen. But it is a solid hour of being in a small room with someone, even though we will both be wearing masks. It is going to take me a while to get okay with that.

Bac717, I am so happy for you. It is so scary to have "questionable findings" without a pandemic to add to the chaos. I had the same exact thing happen the first week of April with the same results. On top of it, at that time it was almost impossible to get a biopsy or see a breast specialist. Because of this, I encourage everyone to stay on top of all medical visits and don't reschedule because you can do it later. Later might be impossible or at least more difficult. In two weeks I have a skin check at Memorial Slone Kettering. I was at a regular derm to take off a few little growths that I thought were benign warts and of course, one was not. I've been down this road before so my concern is minimal and I know that I am not in danger, but I will not wait till I'm fully vaccinated to see the specialist.

Good luck for your husband. As just one data point and with no intention at all of making a suggestion or recommendation, I'll share that I take 1200 mg all at once, at bedtime. Even when I take it earlier in the evening with several wakeful hours remaining before bedtime, I feel no noticeable effect. What I think is a funny AND sorry story - for years and years, my prescription was for a daily dosage of 4-300 mg capsules, to be taken at night. About two years ago, the day after I'd requested a refill at the pharmacy, they called me. "Your prescription administrator is only going to cover 75% of the cost, so we need to charge you an additional amount (It was something like $150). I called the administrator and asked what was going on. I was told "Your plan changed and it covers a maximum of 90 pills per month for any one drug". I asked "Does it come in a 400mg size? 4x300 is the same as 3x400, would you cover that?" "Yes, of course, that's 90 per month, but your prescription is for 120 of the 300mg size and we'll only cover 90 of those per month". So I had to call the doctor and have them send in a new prescription for 3-400mg capsules per day instead of 4-300mg ones per day. It's been fully covered ever since. Such nonsense.

Aw, Leslie, You and your GS are in my thoughts.

A friend of mine, I saw just last night, her Son in law is dealing with the same problem. His treatment makes him very tired at times but his radiation is about over and the chemo will go on for another year. We're keeping positive about his treatment. I think he is going to the University too. Also he has been to Mayo. He's been surrounded by a HUGE family( lots of aunts and uncles) that helps out.

My prayers are with you and your precious little one. It's much easier on us as parents/grandparents to go through pain, problems, illnesses, than it is for us to watch our loved ones go through them.
