Yes -- I would re-paint the church pew in black! It is a GORGEOUS piece -- and works so very very nicely with the table -- warm and inviting!

great job, I love the way you painted the top, show us another picture once things are in place.

I love the unexpected teal of the bench; tying it in with linens should not be a problem.

I think it looks awesome! I love the way it looks with your painted church pew -- I don't think it has to match at all.

I'm even toying with the idea of begging you not to repaint the pew. It's presently done in one of my favorite colors, and I think it's absolutely perfect.

I like the teal pew. I like the painted table top - you did a great job! But, something seems a little disjointed to me. I think you need to paint the apron of the table teal - distressed to match the pew, and paint the table legs black like the top. The teal is fun and needs to connect with the table.

I would leave the the teal pew color and add some teal in your tablescape to unify the look. Teal fiestaware comes first to mind with some white or cream accents possibly in floral centerpieces and linens.

Oooh, I like the teal! I agree with the others, don't paint anything else and just add teal to a tablescape or a table runner with the teal in it. I do like the idea of Fiestaware.

I know what you mean about benches being comfy. My dh made one and we use it at the DR table, and I always sit there! They're a lot more comfortable than a chair, IMO.

What about adding some cushions to the chairs if you want more continuity?

You did a great job on the table, but step away from the paintbrush and leave the pew alone. I agree that it should stay teal. But you could either remove the light maple table, which detracts from the table and wall paneling and cabinetry, or, if you must, paint it teal or black.

Wow! I am so glad you all like it. I am very suprised that the majority like my teal pew too. Was expecting most to say get rid of it altogether or at least paint it something more subdued. Who knew!

Teacats, seems you are the lone person voting for black. I value your opinion though. Maybe I will try out tying it together with accessories first and if that doesn't work then go black.

Mitchdesj, I am glad you like the unexpected pop. I think that is what I like about the teal too. Definitely not typical! I will post pics once it all is finished and all of the clutter is gone!

Magothyrivergirl, I think it feels disjointed too. I like the idea of painting the apron teal but I really don't want to paint the legs. I love the way they look now. Will have to think on this one.

Pris and Oakleyok, I am glad you both like the idea of table linens/accessories tying it together. I will have to check out fiestaware. Hey, the cream I have covered. I inherited my grandma's white ironestone. I also have cane pattern white and brown ironstone that I think will look really great with this. Maybe I should have painted the table brown instead?

Parma42, I don't know why I didn't think of chair cushions. Duh! I was thinking too much about the bench and table. Thanks for pointing out that big elephant in the room. LOL.

Suero...so you noticed the other table..great eye! It is actually our old table that was really too small for our family of 7. I pushed it to the side so we can use it until this new table was finished. Now the maple table will go into our sunroom/gameroom.

I like the table- great job! if you try the cushions and accesories to bring in the teal and you still have a problem with the color, you could always go over the teal with the black, rubbing it off as you go so it stays in the grain and the teal shows through.You could do that on the apron as well.

I agree with Suero -- if you take the lighter table away, it all looks great together. That is definitely what was throwing it off in my eye. You did a great job!

I vote to keep the teal, also. The table linens that pick up the teal and also have your other colors sound great--do you have pics/links to it?

Oh Must leave the pew blue.. it's so fresh and wouldn't look as charming with everything in black!
I also have a black plank rustic wood table. It's homemade (not by me)

I Also have an oak church pew on one side LOL. After seeing your pics I just might paint mine a color too!
I have thought about painting it black but like I said, i am inspired to use a color on it.
Maybe a fun green because the room behind it has a cheery green

I am glad so many of you like it with the bench. Here are some pillows that I found online, Walmart. The description lists them as either turquoise or teal, can't remember which. I am going to see if they have them in our local store to see if they are a match.

If you have trouble finding true teal, remember the import stores as they usually carry bright colors like teal in their decor items.

It will look so pretty with the teal accessories. Great job on the table.

I know you didn't want to paint the legs and apron, but thought I'd throw an idea at you. Paint apron and legs black, and then where the grooves are fill that area in with teal to match the pew. Sort of like pinstriping in a way, but it is the grooves.

BTW you are my hero. You're getting all this done with all your kids and a 2 month old. I'm having a hard time getting things done with just one 3 month old.

I like that idea too, or if you want to keep the legs the way they are, how about teal or black in the grooves?

I love cooperbailey's idea of rubbing the bench with a tiny bit of black. I know you do't like the idea of painting the legs & apron but I really think about just a tad of black on them as well (maybe in the grooves as others have suggested?)

I think you can leave the teal bench, and perhaps get fabric to tie in the teal, brown and black tones. A long cushion on the bench in plain black, with pillows in the print fabric, and then print cushions on the chair seats.

Here is the other thing I see. What feels off to me is that the table appears to be no where near as wide as the bench, and of course curves in at the oval ends, so it appears that the people sitting on either end of the bench wouldn't be near the table. What you might consider, given that the table is not an heirloom piece, is getting a larger tabletop cut from a nice stain grade plywood. It could be a slightly larger oval or even a rectangle. You could attach it to the current tabletop, or it would likely be fine just resting on the top, since it wouldn't be that much bigger.
