Our insurance company automatically increases the value of our house. Right now they have it insured really high(IMO)but I guess if something happened, I might be glad it is. It's just tough seeing those insurance premiums!!

Ours is insured for total replacement costs, but in the event that something does happen, I know we won't see it.

Mine's like Dea's. Increases with the value of the house. Insured for total replacement costs.

home insurance is one of the thorns in my financial side :-( yes here in FL atleast they do reassess value every yr but we've seen increases in the 7 yrs i've had my home up at 300%. i got my house at $99K and selling prices were up to $300K until this past winter & now selling prices are at $275K. they have slide back a bit last 12 months but that's not much. my insurance went from $250 a yr (2001) to $1200 last yr. in 2004 we had $15K in hurricane damages (from 1 hurricane) that the insurance co would not pay and ever since then rates have gone thru the roof... i've never had any claims other than the 2004 one. we have not had a hurricane since the 3 in 2004 and until recently everyone has been more afraid to get dropped so we've paid what they want but this yr i've shopping it out.

my mortgage is a low fixed rate, always has been, but between taxes and insurance my payment went from $500 to $850 over the last 7 yrs ~ liz

After having lost a home to a tornado, the most important thing is to make sure you have replacement cost not value. With replacement cost, they will pay you what it cost to replace regardless of what you originally paid.

Bigfoot..I tend to think you are not alone with you insurance premiums increasing. I would safely bet everyone's has. It's a case of everyone chipping in to help cover the damage of all the devastation that has happened across our country.

Call your insurance company and set up an appointment to go over it. They should send you the info every year, with the new charges and any changes in cost. and if you get rid of your pool, I would imagine that there would be a little deduction

Interesting think on replacement costs. You don't actually GET the $$$ until you have repurchased the item.

You know what? Mine might increase too, since every year I've gotten an increase in my payments...until this year when it actually went down. I do get the paperwork, just never look at it too closely. I guess I should.

Our insurance company seems to do it every year when we get the new policy--they are pretty good about it and it is one other thing I don't have to remember to do!!

deamn, home owners insurance co's in FL can not by law spread the costs of insuring people in this state thru out to their customers outside of this state. i'm willing to bet those living in tornado alley will be seeing big increases as they begin costing insurance co.'s more... my biggest real complaint about 500% increases in premiums is the fact that when i truely needed to file a claim they denied it. i paid out of pocket for repairs, and that gives me the feeling the same thing will happen again whether it's a hurricane, fire, tornado etc... my denied claim was just a drop in the bucket of people who were in the same boat or worse situation...look at what happened to all the people in the gulf coast including a prestigious senator who never got a dime from his insurance $$ either. in FL we've long ago learned that insurance means nothing, you need to be able to go on financially w/o their help. ~ liz
