Backsplash - Bay window

We have a bay window behind our cooktop (...we know, unusual:\) It's the same height as the counters and about 20" deep. The opening (width) is 56" or so. The windows (3) are ~40" tall. There is also 6" of exposed (no cabinets) wall on either side and 10" above. We were thinking to extend our backsplash around and into the window space.

If anyone has done this type of thing and could share your opinion that would be helpful. Or, pictures may even be better! All comments are appreciated :)

Our sink is in our bay window, but I think the idea is the same, we continued the tile into a portion of it:

I think I just saw your kitchen in another thread on LED under cabinet lighting.

The above photos I cannot access it says the image has been moved or deleted... :-Our issue is to continue or not the tile all the way up to the ceiling (we have 9 foot normally, but 8 at this window because the corner at the ceiling is cut off) and into the bay window. Your window if I recall was not a bay window (the countertop did not extend into it).

Also, what kind of backsplash tile is that in your kitchen?

What a nightmare!! I feel for you so much, I can't imagine going through all of that for so long of time. What stress you must be feeling! Go after the guy and get what is due you, he has made your life miserable. Find a qualified contractor to make it right like you dreamed. Good Luck!

Thanks prill...I'm leaning towards only doing tile in area to the left of the casing...then in the window area just doing paint and the casing down to the counter. I guess I'll just have to be more dilligent with cleaning. The Reef was the first tile that spoke to me...I really thought I was going to go for a more solid blue, but reef is so much softer....it allows me to play up the color of the walls more...not that I have a lot of walls...And, I found out that my designer can get it for about 12.50/sf where I was quoted around $15/sf.

didn't have time to read all the answers. I have no backsplash and have never regretted it...been over 6 yrs. It is painted with BM matte...which has ceramic in it. It is as beautiful now as it was when first painted. I love the fact that I can showcase other things ...art etc in my kitchen and no competition. Also if I ever want to change it is as quick as a paint brush...expense is minimal..paint only ! All in all I think it is serene as you point out . Here is one pick. Since I have a lot of high heat cooking in my kitchen..built in deep fat fryer as well as gas cook top I can definitely speak to the longevity of paint only. c ( more at this album )

Hello mezzsop , Let's see if we can answer some of your questions.... It doesn't sound like, 'it's a mess,' is doing it for you, but I'd be lying if I said I was surprised. That's code for, 'I don't want to spend my time doing it.' Your questions actually bundle up to the answer with the least resistance. Let's start at the upper cabinets: You don't want to try to align a cabinet edge that was made in a 'perfect' environment with an edge built on site - they'll never truly align. So pulling them away from the edge would be easier. This also gives you a bit of 'blank space' where you could put a proper tile stop, schluter strip, flat stock to end your tile. You don't want tile just ending with an exposed edge - it leaves yourself open to damage. This would mean your tile ends with the cabinetry above (easy to install) and the difference between the cabinetry / tile to the window becomes something functional.
