I offered to quilt Sharon's Tie a Yellow Ribbon quilt (that's what I call it - I'm not sure what she named it.)

It is going to a Family member who's son is in the Military.

I am honored to quilt this for her, and I hope the family is pleased, and their Son comes home safe and sound.

Sharon's piecing is so good and precise. She gave me permission to post the pictures.

I quilted loops and Ribbons freehand in a cream color that looked very pale yellow color against the bright white in Glide thread that has a bit of a sheen to it.

Loved your pictures! I will also be wintering my begonias in my sunroom, but this will be the first year for me to do so. Do you have any tips to offer so that I will be more likely to be successful? I just brought them all in last weekend and they are in the south facing window of the sunroom. I have not yet turned the heat on out there, but even when I do, the baseboard heater (no blower) just keeps it above freezing the the coldest weather. We use the fireplace when the temps get low, but only when we are out in the sunroom to enjoy it. The plants I brought in range in size from a 2' diameter plant in an 8" pot (maybe I should re-pot it?)to a tiny rex in a 6" pot. I appreciate any directions you can offer! BettyLu

Hi MM! Happy New Year! Great pictures of your beauty!! Ya know, I have an arabian tea jasmine that wasn't doing diddly or squat for blooming for years! And so I started talking to it sweetly, petting its leaves, playing classical music for it, asking it if it would bloom for me, how I would be so happy if it did, sent it love and holy frijoles, it's blooming like crazy! It just finished a big cycle of blooming and I've told it I've got to trim it a wee bit so it doesn't get too huge. But, it's really listened to me! My gardenia put out a few blooms for me in the fall, but didn't like being brought inside in lower light conditions, sadly. The poor little bugger has some TEENY weeny flowers on it, but I guess I'm going to try to get it to bloom next year by bringing it inside earlier. It's still surviving pretty good (shhhhh!), I peed on it and it greened up right away too. If you haven't read it, try to get yourself a copy of the book "The Secret Life of Plants". I guarantee it will make you feel guilty next time you cut up a carrot or torture a potato in the oven! Also, my lemon has gotten two small lemons on it and also a bunch of flowers too. The interior sills/stools and trim would be one by your carpenter. The exterior sill and casings could be done by either . Marvin has a very nice extruded aluminum that is attached to the window or used to be able to be ordered with wood. The exterior trim is often made by the installer in the field or prefabbed, it can be capped or finished, just depends on what your looking for. I think you would be fine with a pine interior or you could match species to wood trim at a much higher cost.

My Cathedral Windows are finally starting to look like it, thanks for posting pics of mature hostas, always a pleasure to see what mine will be looking in the future. St Paul does look stunning. Got small Wolverine, I have beautiful Dark star, Hoping to place Wolverine in the pot and enjoy it cascading habit....

Awwww, Marsha, thank you. The ribbons and bows were just the thing for this quilt and it looks awesome!!!

The official name is For The Troops but I've been calling it Tie A Yellow Ribbon. The binding is on and I've been sewing the sleeve on. Should have that done tomorrow and the label, too. I don't know why I don't think of those things before putting the binding on! Wooohoooo another UFO will be done!

MLinda, The pattern is one National Quilting Association designed for 2010 National Quilting Day. They put one out every year and it's free. I like it and would like to make another some day.

Marsha and Sharon you did a beautiful job! It is really special what you are both doing. I saw that pattern when it came out in 2010 and it is on my list of quilts to make! It is awesome to see how beautiful it came out. Nice work ladies!

Thank you, ladies. I just want to add that I really enjoyed putting the blocks together in this quilt and there was a very real sense of pride and concern for our military in my heart during the process. So, should you make this quilt, be prepared......

I had this top hanging on the door to my office for a long time before I quilted it. I miss it. I live in a military area, and I am a Navy Brat - my Dad is retired Navy, so I really feel honored and proud to had worked on this special quilt.

Sharon is right, you can't help but feel a sense of pride in your heart - I think it is the simplicity of the Yellow Ribbon and what it has come to mean.

Gorgeous quilt and quilting!!! I live by Ft. Stewart and dad is retired Army, DH Vietnam Vet, uncle died in Vietnam at 21, nephew currently in Afghanstan.

I am so over all of the fighting! I pray for world piece each day, but I doubt we will see it, sigh.

We send care packages and they do appreciate being remembered!
