Wiring to convert pool light from 120 to 12v LED
Comments (4)It's my understanding that a current collector spring will touch the filament wires in the event of a bulb shattering. If this is the case, LED's don't shatter, so does it matter if the current collector spring is pushed off to the side a little bit? Most people looking at colored replacement don't care about warranty on a light fixture. A LED light will put less strain on a light fixture, because is uses less power and generates less heat. The only reason Pentair would "void the warranty" is because they don't want to lose sales of their intellibrite product. Now if you do this and something goes catastrophically wrong, don't look to Pentair, or whoever makes the light to be liable. Getting back on topic. You can probably get away with replacing the LED lamp only because you dont need the oversized wires that typically come on a large pool fixture. The led consumes far less wattage. You may want to increase the size of the wires that go from the transformer location to the light junction box....See MoreColorLogic 4.0 vs Pentair IntelliBrite - Pool Test which is best?
Comments (8)I've had the old style Colorlogics for 5 seasons and can't remember ever setting it on "white." Did you happen to compare depth of colors, etc? I don't see any need to upgrade but when these fail some future (hopefully distant) time I want to be in the know. thanks...Ralph...See MoreOld pool lights + new salt cell = rust stains on new surface
Comments (3)Rust means iron in the water of which there should be none. Its not hard to get test strips for. Are you on a well or municipal water? If discovered, a sequesterant is needed so stains can't form. They are expensive but Cu-Later pouches in the skimmer will pull the iron as well as copper out of the water in a couple weeks or so while the sequesterant prevents further staining. If the finish is affected, an ascorbic acid bath (vitamin C in mass) may be called for first to get it back in the water and be held captive by the sequesterant and then the pouches. Having an anode in the skimmer is good, especially if putting on at the pad is difficult. If the bond wire's potential for it isn't the same as the salt cells, i.e. there shouldn't be but maybe 1 ohm between the two, a small current can form. If the anode isn't connected to the bond, the stainless would attract the current because it is and the current has some place to go. With both connected, the current is absorbed by the anode which wears with time. Scott...See MorePentair Pool/Spa Lights (non-LED) with B;ue Lens
Comments (5)quote" Will the plastic snap on lenses (placed on the clear glass lens) provide a "deep" color that rivals the LED colors? "quote Absolutely not. quote" The first cannon ball will knock that sucker right off. "quote LMAO, the first thing I thought of when I read his question was "I wonder if he knows just how poorly the snap on lenses fasten to the lamp fixture" Every pool builder has his own markup on product. FWIW, I charge a 350 upgrade per lamp for either the Pentair, Jandy, or Hayward color changing lamps. IMO, it's money well spent. I've yet to demo my Pentair LED but have heard it's awesome. I like the Colorlogic LED because my Jandy controllers interface with them and allow digital control instead of switching control. I haven't used a colored glass lamp in many years, but I'd definitely recommend it over a snap on plastic lens cover. I didn't see it in this thread but I remember your pool being large. No matter which lamps, standard-vs-color changing, you choose I'd suggest full size lamp niches on both ends of your pool. See ya, Kelly...See Moremorton5
