If it was me, I would go for some color rather than another wood for the sideboard. I certainly see nothing wrong with mixing woods, but sometimes a painted piece offers something unexpected and fun to a room. Perhaps you could drape some fabric over your existing sideboard and see how it feels to have color there. If you post a picture of the room, including the windows, we can help more with getting the feel of what you want. Do you have inspiration pictures? If so. post those too. Diane

And I would totally consider getting a second-hand one. Biggest issue is having the cash for one (where at a store I could pay for it in installments). But, I keep my eyes peeled. Although, just yesterday I found someone selling 6 Parson's chairs (with decent slipcovers) for $50 each. So, things are out there. Joann and Linda: Thank you for the wise advice. You're right about taking my time. My husband has already suggested getting one of those folding tables anyway, and with 9-10 adults and 7 kids (ranging from 1 yr to 18) slated for Thanksgiving, they wouldn't all fit at a formal table that would fit in that space anyway. And, of course, another issue is money. I'd rather save for something nice than put something on credit (and then have something happen where we couldn't pay off, ya know?). That's why I love coming here and reading everyone's points of view -- many, many years of experience. Thanks again! You've given me much to think about (and I really do think that maybe the rented/folding table and chairs may be a better solution for Thanksgiving, and I won't feel so frazzled to get a house in order and new furniture in and can focus on what matters most -- family!). *hugs to all* ^_^

I suggest just getting six of the upholstered chairs. Since your spares are going to be mix and match, going with part of the chairs in wood and part of the chairs in upholstery is just too much mix and not enough match.

Jinx-Thanks, I have really been second guessing myself after ordering the sofa and chair. I am a bit worried about the couch being to large for the wall it is going to be on. The wall is 12’4” and the couch is 96” and has a slight curve which i love and think the oval brass/glass table I got off craiglist will look nice with it. I am keeping the round end table between the cane chairs and found two matching end tables that are from that same furniture line on Charish. I know everything should not be matchy matchy, but I am hoping the brass/glass end table and a little cocktail style table I hope to purchase for next to the new chair will break those other items up, if that makes sense. The two end tables I am looking at are the perfect height as they are 1/2 inch shorter then the arms on the couch and are 20 inches wide leaving me a couple of inches from wall and sofa. I would purhcase two matching lamps for those tables and possibly wallpaper the wall behind the sofa. I have never been good at finding large pieces of art for over sofas, hence never have any, ugh! I guess I am hoping that that wall has a type of built in look, filling the whole space. Do you think what i want to do makes sense and will look nice? It will def be the feature wall as it is facing the entrance from the foyer.
