updating traditional dining room....mixing wood tones, etc

hi.. I recently stripped down my dining room to the bones.. The walls are a mustard color (BM citrine), white moulding, my furniture is very traditional dark English style, a large china cab. etc. I have tried to modernize the look by adding Parsons side chairs at each head and put a more transitional fabric on the chairs. It is a contemporary "stripe" of deep rusty red, gold, beige.. Kind of looks exotic, which I love. They look good. I removed the traditional rug and curtains.

..My main question is, if I purchase a new sideboard/buffet, I would like to get something non traditional.. Should I stay with a dark wood color, or add a pop of color? I have never been so stuck with a project.. I tried moving some diff tables from other rooms to see the color, and nothing but very dark seems to look good..??? Are there rules about mixing styles and colors of wood?? Also, curtain suggestions, rug etc???Thanks.
