Needed (fast!) flower block swap volunteers!

Due to a need for one or two NEW flower block participants...Is there anyone reading this who could make a set THIS coming week and mail them out by next weekend? (Perhaps someone originally on the waiting list who does not have a full-time job and has the time to participate...or anyone else!)

I realize this is a strange request, but we have some last-minute drop-outs. If you have the time and a love for flower blocks, let me know this weekend via this thread (or privately at judika3 at yahoo dot com). Trust me, the flowers I have at my house awaiting distribution are really nice and are awaiting a home! Here are the requirements if interested:

1. Make twelve 12 1/2 inch (unfinished size) flower blocks.

2. Background color: white on white!!!

3. Flower color(s) and design: your choice...think spring/summer (example: no poinsettias - much too Christmassy) - - appliqued or pieced or paper-pieced or a combo

4. Keep one block and mail the remaining eleven blocks to me (If you want to pin a small piece of paper with your name on each block you send, that's great...many quilters like to know who made which block.) Email me so that I can give you my address...I'm judika3 at yahoo dot com.

5. Along with the eleven blocks, make sure you include with them a large self-addressed, stamped return envelope so that I can mail you your blocks!

Did you get the "extra" 12 I sent you?
I don't know if they're alright or not, they're
embroidered blocks.

I sent them when you told me someone dropped out last week.

I am okay with whatever the majority wants. I think there are good cases for both having the borders on vs. leaving them off. My fear is I will get these beautiful unbordered blocks then I will get too lazy to sew the borders on and I will never get it done, vs the borders are all already on and all I have to do is sew them all together....I have this wonderful quilt my grandmother made from all sorts of scraps and things, and you know nonething really matches, but that is the homemade, heartwarming part that makes me love that quilt. Just my thoughts ; ) The morning glories will be blue/perwinkle/mauves and the tulips will be in the pink/red family with contrasting borders should we decide to go that way. I am going on vacation the week of April 7th, so I will be bringing the stuff with me to do while I sit on the beach ; ) So my stuff will go out to everyone when I get back if that is okay. When I got the email showing you posted a new comment, the link for the pdf showed up. Yes, we have a version of these plants all over the place in San Antonio and this part of Texas. It's called a barometer plant because it blooms when it hits a certain point. Some people think it's rain that brings on the blooms, but it's the barometric pressure. Your Tx Ranger though really has prettier blooms. Yes, hubby works for a company that takes care of commercial buildings (his job) and equipment like they have at the rail yard. Hey Renee / Pinkpearls : you can have it all, one plant at a time, you just gotta be patient. You need to post pictures of everything you got at the plant swap. Show us where you plant everything!! (Violet, pinkpearls came to our plant swap in San Antonio over the weekend. She's a newbie, too.) patty

cygram, I tried making this block tonight as a test block & donate it to the BC quilt. I thought WOW, my points are great & there's even SPACE between the points & the geese. Well, that WOW ended quickly when I had to take those seams in to match the length of the "goose" when sewing the quadrants together. And then, when I got it done, it was 13" sq, not 12.5". I might be able to squeeze 1/4" off each side & still have it look nice, but I htink I'll make it into a pillow. Mine ended up smaller than yours. Did we use the same measurements? 7.75 x 4 3/8? I think it would help if I knew exactly what size the FG section should be before I sew them all together. Maybe, just maybe, if I do some math, I could figure that out. :) As much as I like the no waste method, I hated having to square everything up all the time. Am I doing it wrong, or is that normal? I'm about ready to switch back to the strip piecing way that is shown in the directions I linked to & just chain stitch.

YES! I have definitely decided on the complementary fabric! I found some fabric at a local (local for me is half an hour's drive away!) small quilt shop. I've auditioned it with the blocks and I love it! Yesterday, while online, I found the same fabric on sale at the web link listed below. I was ecstatic because the store where I bought it only had a few fat quarters. I ordered two yards online because I can definitely use this fabric with other projects as well. Now I can't wait for summer vacation to put the flower quilt together! (Being a teacher, May and early June are insanely busy. All quilting goes on "hold"!!!) You are an angel!!! Thank you so very much for coming to our rescue! Believe me, you will really love the blocks I will be sending you. There is quite a variety of pieced and appliqued...and even an embroidery one!

Anyone else with the time and desire to participate and make these 12 blocks to be sent out by next weekend??? There's one more opening!

I love flowers. I missed the signups in November with me being in China so I was glad to step in. :)

I picked out my pattern last night (difficult choice!). Finished getting bkgnd fabric today & will continue to work once all is quiet tonight. I'm looking forward to having quick results for this swap. Usually you have to wait months & months for the goodies. :)
