Maybe he's just feeling sluggish today. Give him a child's chewable vitamin. or break it into his food. DH did that with a goose we had it he pepped right up.

Don't feel dumb about it. We know our pets and how they act, and yes, if mine act differently for any reason it gets my attention. And I worry. And I go to the vet. Remember - they can't tell us what's wrong like a child can. And with pets, waiting too long to go to the vet can be a mistake, because they often mask anything being wrong.

I'd have done the same thing you did. I hope that all is well today.

You don't need to feel dumb. He is definitely acting out of sorts to his usual self. When my cats don't feel well, they'll hide to be alone. It doesn't happen often at all, but it has.

You shouldn't feel dumb about that- you were just being a loving pet owner. It could have been more serious. Last year I came home and my dog didn't greet me at the door- I thought that maybe he was getting hard of hearing. But the next morning he didn't eat breakfast and wasn't interested in going outside for a walk. He slept most of the day and that night we took him to the vet and come home without him- his kidneys were failing.

So please don't feel bad about worrying - Dusty's part of your family!

Sleeperblues, as already said, don't feel dumb. Often the only way we know that something is wrong is when they act a bit off, better safe than sorry. How are things going today?

Thanks, everyone. The vet certainly didn't make me feel dumb. He's kinda the same, didn't eat really well and only ate it when one of the other dogs got her nose in HIS food. He only gets a quarter cup of kibble twice a day since he usually will eat anything, and I mean anything so this is weird. He's sleeping on the back of the couch right now just like a kitty-cat. Didn't want to go for a walk, so I didn't make him. I did see him drink some water, and he isn't dehydrated, so that's all good. I'll watch him closely.

He just is under the weather. Has a touch of the flu! lol

He probably just had an upset tummy. Maybe he ate something you weren't aware of.
My dog developed the oddest condition. He can't go longer than 10-12 hours without eating or he'll become nauseated. A pepto bismol or Tagamet pill always made him feel better after an hour and he was ready to eat again. I was still concerned why this wasn't going away so I brought him to the vet. He checked out OK in every way which mad eit all the more baffling. But this vet has a lot of experience and she said try this...spread his meals out and see if that corrects the problem. To my surprise it did! When I switched to 3 meals a day instead of 2 the problem stopped. I couldn't believe the solution was as easy as that. Now I'm not saying that your dog is the same way, sounds like his was a one time event and with my dog it had been going on for months. But just in case this repeats its keep what I'm saying in the back of your mind. Not all dogs can stomach their food in one sitting or even twice a day. My other dog never had a problem being fed just twice.
BTW You probably know this already but you should not give your pet a vitamin (that's pet vitamins not human!) on an empty stomach.

Our present Westie has a 'sour stomach'. We feed him three times a day to help keep the acid down. He is also a sneak -- can grab and swallow junk in the yard or on a walk before you can stop him. Consequently he vomits at 3 a.m. after one of these 'grabs'. (Too much time between ingesting and vomiting for him to LEARN.)

Eliot has gone three days without eating, then -- poof! -- back to normal. He's eleven. However, HE has ALWAYS been this way. This sounds like something new for Dusty. Watch and wait. At least you KNOW the vet didn't find a problem.

adding some gatoraid to the water bowl is good for them it helps replenish electrolytes and vitamins and minerals that can get out of sorts especially in the summer, not a lot just pour some in the bowl with the water, my vet taught me that years ago.

I take mine in anytime they are out of the norm. My little mini fox terrier on several occasions now has acted like she was not feeling well at all, not eat, sad eyes, laying around moping, then she would start to vomit blood. I nearly had a heart attack, we made the vet meet us at the clinic on a Sunday, (we have a great vet she gave me her cell phone number) she called in her techs they ran every test they could they hooked her up to an IV to run fluids into her since she had been vomiting, they xrayed to see if she had eaten something that was stuck or had cut her insides. NOTHING ABSOLUTELY NOT A THING was out of sorts on her tests or blood work. No idea what the heck caused it but it has since happened 2 more times, very spread apart in time, still not a clue, but after that first panic attack and having to pay nearly a thousand dollars for all that was done plus everyone coming in on Sunday, I was not as eager to panic and call everyone. I did take her in again for it and they did run more tests again and still nothing has ever shown up so now we just figure it is something that is going to happen to her. I keep on hand the meds to stop the vomiting and stuff and watch her like a hawk when it happens.
I hope it never happens again!

So I sure do understand taking them in anytime they act strange. I hope it does turn out to be nothing but a feel bad day! Lord knows I have those too LOL

Opposite of dumb actually, very smart. And kudos to noticing that your pet is out of sorts. We all have days like that, both people and animals. The last several days I just didn't feel 100%. It passed. I wouldn't get worried about adding any supplements at this point and not without checking with the vet. It could be a variety of things so give him a couple days and see if he improves. The major thing you checked - drinking water. That's the number one thing. And that he's eating is also a good sign as is being protective of what's "his".

And, FWIW, obviously something is "wrong" but whether it's serious or not remains to be seen. My gut feeling is that it's something simple. Fresh air didn't help so it's not something that's inhaled, CO or something.

Hope the little fella is back to a full tank soon. Scratch his ears for me and give him a little petting.

Not dumb at all! You just did what any good mom does! I'm sure he is probably just fine but there are things that a blood test wouldn't reveal. Maybe his tummy is a little upset today or maybe he has a sore paw. Did the vet look at his teeth? It could be any one of many small things that have just upset him. Trust your gut and watch him for next few days. They can't speak, but they do communicate!
