IKEA Counter top - recent quality issue
Comments (5)Hi, sorry for being quite but full time job and 2 kids keep me way to busy. The BB was sealed within 3 days from taking it home. The mfg instructions says to do it right away, which I did. I did not screw it to the island yet because I was sealing it several time. Yes t was in warranty but to rent a track to bring it back, ask the cabinet maker to cut to size a new piece, would cost me the same. Also, the pieces are moving and it is not as flat as the 2 pieces we bought 3 years ago. I actually kind of neglect those in the basement (only BB oil twice at the very beginning and that was it) and they look fine. I have seen other IKEA products going down the hill. They want to give price reduction against very poor quality (for instance cabinets knobs and handles). I have been a IKEA Customer for 20 years so I can really see the trend....See MoreUnbelievable high-end Ikea kitchen (and how to paint Ikea cabs)
Comments (45)Stacyneil - Great posting and picture. When I look at this picture, I definitely think high end...and then see it's from Ikea!!!! It is gorgeous! And Natschultz you wrote "Seriously! Why, and I am dead serious here, do people WILLINGLY spend close to a year's salary on a kitchen redo and SETTLE for cabinets that are NOT MADE TO LAST? Why do I feel like the ONLY person on the planet that finds the cost of crap cabinetry ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGEOUS?!?!?" My father taught me alot of things in my 40+ years....one of the most important is - Never count anyone's money. Meaning it's not your place to tell people (or consumers) where to spend THEIR money. If someone wants to spend 5K on a new kitchen it is their choice, as the same if someone wants to spend 150K. I'm pretty sure no one asked for your opinion on how much they should spend on their kitchen. And I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but you are definitely showing your ignorance by blasting all kitchen designers based on a few articles you have read or have experience with. The harshness in your words are really not appreciated on a forum that offers so much help and assistance to many many people. I'm apologizing to you now.....does that make it all ok?!?!?!...See MoreIKEA Hemmes quality
Comments (12)I just bought my dd (college apartment) a dresser from Ikea. Like someone else said, it was a pain to put together. One thing I didn't like was that the instructions are all pictures, and some of the pictures were so vague we couldn't tell which way some were supposed to be placed. After it was completely finished, including nailing the cardboardish type thing on the back, we saw that we had put one of the little boards facing the wrong direction. One major problem I have with Ikea (and this wasn't with the dresser) was their customer help. When we were putting a chair together, we noticed that a part was broken. We had just started on the chair so I called the number, told her what chair, what part, etc. and the woman told me there would be no problem getting a replacement part sent out. By then we were at dd's apt, almost 100 miles from the store. So we finished putting the chair together, hauled the boxes to the trash, and put the little wrench thingy where dd could find it when the part came in. Two days later I got a phone call that they couldn't send out that particular part, and did I want to return the chair (uh, no, plus we already threw the box away) or have a partial refund. I actually wanted to return the chair, but I would have to drive our truck to dd's apt, then haul the chair down a flight of stairs, then make the trip to the store, and then come home again, almost 300 miles total. So we took the refund and dh will try to figure out how to repair it. My advice would be to buy your furniture & then dig out the instructions, and if there are any parts that are of significant value or size (i.e. too expensive for them to ship to you) dig them out & examine them before you drive home. As for me, I will never, never, never, never, never buy furniture I have to put together again....See Moredifferences in quality between ikea styles cabinets?
Comments (31)I have veddinge and I have posted about it before. The problem with it is when you drill the doors to put the knobs. Drill a tiny hole first and do not put any tape. I put the tape thinking it will prevent chipping, but instead, tape took off the paint with it. Lessons learned. My kitchen still looks fine, but that is because I try to be careful with it. My next Ikea kitchen will have some wood-like finish, something like this one: TORHAMN. It is a natural looking wood. I believe, you can can have doors professionally painted to the color you want. So, it it chips, you can always fix it with a little paint touch up. Also, this has Shaker style, which is timeless. Your kitchen will never go out of style unlike all the trendy doors....See Moreremodelfla
