Current feedback on Ikea appliances?
Comments (18)that site (ikeafans) has created so many subforums, that your query from 48 hours ago has had 48 views (not all views by 48 different people) instead of thousands of views. That is one reason why you (and others) cannot find out about their appliances. I think in general ikeafans gets less returning eyeballs than this site: people might zoom in at ikeafans for a little while when they have a specific need but there is no reason to go surfing through 20 or 30 subforums for "pleasure" after their kitchen reno is over. In this GW site, people can derive pleasure by clicking on one or two forums; from an end user perspective it's a better form of feedback when you think about it cybernetically. Seeing all the threads about everything related to kitchens is better than being forced into choosing from a list of subforums. Then, when you DO get to your chosen subforum it's bit disappointing to see that there has been very little new input in recent days or weeks. so i wouldn't hold my breath waiting for ikeafans forum participants to help me on much, in terms of mass spectrum polling. Some of the oldtimers will be helpful. I can spot patterns like anyone else; I find it fishy when a request for testimonials about a specific manufacturer of vent hoods can get testimonials from participants who have only posted a few times before. Especially when nobody ever returns to comment about their ikea appliances. Usually people don't post to say their thingie works, so why should one specific vent hood manufacturer get praise several times in short order? The fact that induction is new for ikea means we might have heard from a few people saying hey wow golly gee lookee i got it and it's fantastic. But, not a peep. To me, this means that ikeafans really doesn't get much returning traffic. It confirms my thinking, but I don't have hard proof of it, so I could be wrong. At any rate, if the induction cooktop had any problems somebody would have complained about it. My prediction. The thread you linked to did not have any oldtimers writing anything at all. It had a few people who never posted anything else before or after, or not much. Not a lot of credibility there, one way or the other. If there really really were a problem, with one model of one appliance, we would have read about it fully and completely somewhere. If there were really a problem with a whole line of appliances, it would have become a running theme in a thousand threads. http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/inordinate . The time i spend here is far far less than the time i spend on other things. The sparse feedback seen in ikeafans is a symptom of their problem. The installer crowd posts a lot on that site. And a few others who are not installers but seem invested. But the first-time end user crowd doesn't return to that site to post PSA's, reports and real life experiences. (as near as i can make out). the threads I posted were intended to show that the bad news is sparse and not all that bad. Your ikeafans thread asked about three unrelated appliances. If it had thousands of eyeballs reading it, and if the readers were real life end users, you would have had an answer or two or three. Ikeafans is not going to provide that to you... or maybe it will, if you wait, if you are lucky, or if the oldtimers now decide they better go to bat for ikea appliances. Until now they have not posted on appliance related threads. (from what I've seen). The good news story to tell is that ikea does sell some of their appliances, (it's not just a front to sell trivets), and no great numbers are complaining in public....See MoreNative American Reaffirmation Ceremony
Comments (2)I agree with Party Music that the buffet line should be on both sides of table & have soup, corn, then stew,(do they make it with flatbread or will they be already put together? I haven't had that so don't know how it's done.. Drinks I always prefer to be in 1 area ,not main food table as a spill can really slow things down. Cake table- cake, forks, napkins & maybe couple of small containers of flowers, any canoes available?? How about a couple of child sized moccasins. Make them out of felt & bead on the front of them(glue or sew on) put a plastic container in where foot should go with low arrangement of fall flowers. Your idea of memories or quotes is good, make that a game where you pass out rough paper in rawhide or beige color & ask them to write something for bride & groom would need pens or pencils to write with but advice, favorite memory about couple or "how to get through the net 25 yrs" would be fun & interesting memory of the party. Only thought is be sure things are pretty secure in case of wind, would heat be a problem, might consider a tarp or 2 to shade some areas if you have trees or house you can anchor them on. Home Depot has brown ones that are nice & last quite well. Also have beige colored 6 ft wide shade cloth that can be anchored with long high wires to higher trees or close to roof so have some shade. It's sold in rolls 100 ft long or shorter 6 ft by 20 ft long. smaller rolls are $29. I think, I shade parts of my yard & makes a big difference. Sounds like a fun party!...See MoreFound a deal on a vent, *but*
Comments (18)I just wanted to update everyone on what I decided. I really struggled with the idea that I would have to bump this out from the wall to deal with IKEA's 15" deep wall cabinets and whether the 24" projection ( 21" + extra 3" depth of bump out) it would be in the way. I decided to forgo the cabinet above the vent (useless anyway) and just have DH build a bulk head where the cabinet would be but at the standard 12" depth. That also gives me more flexibility to set the height of the hood exactly where I want it. I saw a picture like this and thought it looked nice - actually more interesting than everything being the same depth all the way across. I could always cover the bulkhead with an IKEA door front or side panel to make it all match. Or I might do something totally different there - cover it with tile, hang plates on the front or something else decorative. Post pics if you come across any that might provide some inspiration! A side note- When we went back to buy the hood I found that the store did not have the utensil rack that is supposed to come with it. Not really sure I will actually use it, but I emailed Zephyr to explain that I was buying a floor model with the rack missing and asking if that part could be purchased separately. Lo and behold, they emailed me back right away and told me to send them the serial number of the hood and my address and they would send me one at no charge. Way to go Zephyr! I also asked about switching out the halogen light bulbs with equivalent LEDs. They said I could but the LED light would not be dimmable so the light would only work at one setting. Not sure if they realized that you can buy dimmable LED bulbs but at least they didn't tell me it could damage the unit or "melt" as tea4all mentioned hearing. Again, not sure if I will look into getting LED bulbs - but at least not right away if the halogens work fine for me. So I now have my first official purchase for the new kitchen - which is planned to start next fall after the summer rental season is over. Nest step is to figure out where to put the microwave since I won't be doing the dreaded over range version! Thanks to everyone who provided guidance and suggestions!...See MoreThoughts on Ikea bathroom vanities
Comments (20)tira_misu - thank you, and yes, it's the godmorgon storage cabinet. It's a bit shallower than the vanity which for our bathroom is ideal, as the bathroom door opens towards it, and the electrical switches that were already there, fit perfectly between door and cabinet. By the way, our faucets are from Grohe and fit just fine. Just choose a single hole faucet without the thingamabob that opens and closes the drain. That would not work....See Morejulieste
