Farmhouse sink garbage disposal flange for $150+??
Comments (20)Well, I would have been totally fine with the Insinkerator flange, lettering and all, but the one above was cheaper. Some webstores charge as much as $75 for the Insinkerator flange! Hi Karen! I guess we're getting close? Demo starts on Monday, appliances are all ordered except my ovens (waiting for the new model to come out), new doors and windows will be delivered soon, cabinets ship in 2 weeks. I'll be spending the weekend emptying all my cabinets and moving furniture. They're taking down all the dry wall from the ceilings in the kitchen, dining room and family room and knocking down a wall, so I expect a huge mess. I still haven't chosen faucets, prep sink or lighting, and haven't yet found a fabricator for the stainless steel countertops. I don't even want to begin to think about what I'm doing for a backsplash. I have the feeling I'll be forced into making some quick decisions soon after demolition begins. I hope you and your DH and your little ones had a wonderful holiday! How are your design classes going? Erika...See MoreIf you have a single bowl sink and garbage disposal...
Comments (20)Unfortunately I grind up objects weekly in my single sink continuous feed disposal. So much stuff that my husband is dead set against a single bowl sink again in the renovation. I on the other hand love the big sink, just haven't figured out how not to grind stuff up (I have smaller objects in the sink, like baby spoons and sippy cup valves that often get sucked down with the water backed up in the sink when you need to run the disposer). I hope this thread can teach me how not to have the ground up spoon trouble and to get that big bowl sink I really want. I know it sounds like a simple problem of not being careful, but it happens. I scrap the plates into the sink, the kids put their tableware into the sink, then if I rinse the plates prior to loading in the dishwasher any food from the plates gets gross and soggy at the bottom of the sink, making a foul soup. My solution is to run the disposer for a moment to let the mess go. But it is in those moments when, grrrr crunch. Ugh, another spoon (or Lego piece--what was that doing in the sink?) or cup lid bites the dust. I do have the plastic baffle it stops nothing but big bagels. I'm reading attentively to help solve this nasty problem....See MoreCalling Shaw's Original sink owners - what faucet do you have?
Comments (12)Hi Lisa, I think I was suppose to get you some info about my old kitchen as well, I am sorry haven't done it yet. I have just been crazy busy. We homeschool, so I am trying to fit everything we didn't do into this last month. They are already ahead so don't know why I worry. Anyway ...here is a pic of faucet. I don't have it installed yet but do have it in my possession now. It is beautiful, heavy, I love it. This pic is a bathroom one, but have the same in kitchen only it comes with a side spray. It is also gorgeous and heavy. My granite guys were very impressed with side spray as they said most they see are plastic. I can't wait to see it with my Shaw. Oh yes, its from the Sigma Reserve Collection, from the Sancerre line. Truly beautiful, and of course it doesn't have the plug pop up....See MoreQuestion for single sink with garbage disposal owners . . .
Comments (24)Glad someone has mentioned this. I happened to be at my daughter's yesterday. She has my sink and GD. Looked at the old flange, and compared to my new one, it seems to be made of more rubber than the new one at home. The new one seems to be more of a plastic mix and far less resilience. Her flange wasn't as dirty either. Have the same problem with having to push food down the disposal. Liquids aren't an issue. Cut the tips off of every other "rubber" tine a while ago, didn't make a difference, but didn't pose any problems for use either. Maybe they have true rubber ones for replacement. As for the grimy buildup on the flange, I think it is worse not being a solid part of the GD. The void around the sink opening just acts as a great place for gunk to find. Wash mine in the dishwasher or just clean by hand. It is the ring edge that is worse on both the flange and GD. Never had an odor problem with any GD and never thought about gunk under there until messing with the new one. Although I've used the ole citrus trick forever once in a while and did clean the flange at the same time....See Moreamberley
