Quilt Retreat Ideas Needed

I am in the process of planning a fall quilt retreat for our Guild. We are calling the retreat "Driven to Quilt, where chocolate, coffee and quilters meet".

At our retreats, we like to have if you will party favors at the meals based on the theme (chocolate and coffee in this case). Does anyone out there have any cheap ideas for party favor type of things that I could make for this retreat.

I already have the chocolate dipped coffee spoons in mind, along with a coffee/chocolate recipe in a coffee mug, and the custom candy bar wrapper. I need 5 ideas total.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I rarely draw patterns on a quilt so it was done freehand. It's really no different than your single strand "Pothos", which is also easy to do freehand. Now that you've got the feel for how a vine is made, try doing some samples without your paper pattern and see what happens. Then try this: go to the picture of my vines again and take your finger and start following the vine around--I think you'll begin to see how I traveled around to fill the space. I think that what prevents folks from trying freehand designs is that we get locked into the idea that every motif in a design should be exactly the same as every other motif and sometimes that's true, as in a formal feathered wreath, for instance (I do use a drawn pattern for that sort of thing). However, in nature leaves, feathers, flowers, spirals, etc. come in an infinite variety of shapes and sizes even on one plant. The way I see it, this variation is what gives a quilting design interest and character. A machine can replicate an image perfectly over and over, but where's the fun in that? I'm currently adding big, swooping free-form feathering to the wide borders on a client's quilt. I'm getting excited too. I'm so ready for a treat, just for me. I plan to eat, sew, visit, eat, sit on the deck, eat, play games, sleep, eat, sew. If there is time perhaps a snack or two. Anyone else want to join in the fun? I have games and prizes!! beverly

How many will you need? How about jelly rolls of chocolate or coffee themed strips? Or fabrics and pattern to make a coffee cup block (then make a quilt as a fund raiser). If you have access to an embroidery machine you could make little sashets with coffee cups on them. Love the Hershey Kiss pincushions and who wouldn't love M&Ms.

Go to the goodwill/garage sales, get some coffee mugs and put a fat quarter in them.

How about a fat quarter or fat eighth of coffee or chocolate fabric? There's lots of coffee fabrics available and I think some chocolates are out there too. Fabric can be tied up in a pretty ribbon and placed on each plate.

You can have a coffee or chocolate theme block challenge too. Choose a fabric ahead of time, determine the block size and have them bring the completed block to the retreat.

That weekend everyone votes for their favorite block for prizes. You can also have it where the most votes wins all the blocks instead of each person getting their block back. Up to you but it's fun to come home with lots of new blocks. A quilt can be made from these blocks for charity too...guild fundraiser?

In the past we've done this based on a letter; make a block whose theme starts with a T. Any method, any embellishments, etc. It's fun to see the creativity of all participants.

We announce the winner at our final night's entertainment along with door prizes, etc.
