The Best Burger

A topping of colourful sweet peppers and a fresh herb mayonnaise turns the everyday into premiere fare.

1 egg

2 tbsp water, tomato juice, stock or red wine

1/4 cup dry bread crumbs

1 small onion, grated

1 tbsp dijon, hot mustard or horseradish

1 clove garlic, minced

1 lb lean ground beef, pork or chicken

4 sesame seed hamburger buns

In a bowl, whisk egg with water; stir in bread crumbs, onion, mustard, garlic, salt and pepper. Mix in beef. Shapeinto 4 patties. Grill over medium heat until no longer pink and thermometer reads 160 when inserted sideways.

Sauteed Peppers

Tender-crisp peppers are like afresh relish and a welcome change from sweet condiments

1 tsp vegetable oil

1/2 each sweet red and yellow pepper, thinly sliced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1/4 hot pepper flakes (optional)

1/4 cup minced parsley

2 tbsp dry white wine, or 1 tbsp vinegar

1 tsp tomato paste

In skillet heat oil over medium heat, fry sweet peppers, garlic, hot pepper flakes until tender-crisp. Stir in wine, tomato paste and salt' cook until liquid is evaporated, 3 minutes.
