Baby Fish Quilt Finished

I took a "Fun Fish" class with Quilt University a few years back and finished this top. The water was pieced organically (just set out a bunch of batik FQs) and the fish and sea life were machine appliqued and hand embroidered eyes and detail. I had it pinned for about 2 years wondering how to quilt it. I finally have the skill level to do an allover meander on my home machine. It is 38" x 47". I also have a Full sized quilt I started then, it just needs pieced borders and quilting. That one I will practice Long Arm at the LQS to finish. Having the baby quilt done will hopefully inspire me to finish the Full sized one for my bed.

What an adorable quilt, Bev. I love the tie-in between the bears and the honey. And the yellow you used is very honey-like. Your sofa pattern looks almost like a honeycomb too.

Problems: While quilting, I managed to cut through the top while clipping a thread and had to patch with a matching piece of fabric and wonder under; one corner on the binding was very wonky. I guess I didn't square the corner right and had to undo several inches of binding, trim and redo the corner, and ease in the excess length so it's not as smooth as it should be. I've been quilting a long time and these problems could have been avoided with a little more care. Yes, I did make all of these baby quilts. Fortunately one of them had been done for a while and was just waiting for a home. I can't even remember them all now.

Bev, I have a Baby Lock Tiara. It's a sit-down long-arm quilter, I guess you'd call it. I almost always quilt a meandering pattern, because it's fast (relatively) , and I just want to get it done. It's not my favorite part of making a quilt. I have done a Baptist fan pattern with a ruler, but that was really slow. I'm not a fan of heavily-quilted quilts. I think you sacrifice the cuddle factor with too much quilting.

Nice school of fish. I really like the shells at the bottom. The quilting looks great too. I never could meander on my home machine.

I love it! My brother was into salt water fish for a while, and I've been looking for a pattern to do one for him. I'm definitely inspired :-)

I love it. You can have a full aquarium hanging on your wall and not have to worry about feeding the the fish. Really fun project.

Thanks everyone! I really loved this project and am inspired to get the Full sized one done and on my bed! Deanna, this one doesn't have a designated home just yet. I'm enjoying it for now.
