granite is in now I need a backsplash!

ok not that the granite is in I need to decide on a backsplash. Of all the tiles I had for the backsplash, I don't think any of them go. Does anyone have any suggestions??

If you haven't already, be sure to click through the Finished Kitchens Backsplashes slideshow. I saw several in the first dozen or so that I looked at that I thought would work: alaskangirl, allinson0704, beachlvr, aprilquilts and several others! Colors are hard to gauge, but I think you'll find some inspiration there.

Oh, your kitchen looks like it will be beautiful when you're done - it has good bones. I would do a neutral stone backsplash. This way you can add any color you want by displaying canisters, platters, cookie jars, etc. to bring in punches of color. Do you have a window over your sink? You can add color there as well by adding a gorgeous window treatment. By doing a neutral backsplash (pick an interesting design) you will have more color choices in the future.

My granite supplier advised using tile from the granite up (no granite back splash). She could have advised the other way and made a little more money, so I think she advised based on her honest opinion. I also like the "no granite back splash" look better. Just guessing, I'd say the only reason to use the 4" granite back splash would be if you weren't going to use any other back splash at all (a more low-budget option, in my opinion).

With a granite backsplash, you'll still have a seam so it defeats the purpose stated by that granite guy. Only time I see tile over a 3" granite backsplash is when they are done at different times (change in homeowners or you decide to add tile in the future). Most people getting new counters will just tile from the counter up.

didn't have time to read all the answers. I have no backsplash and have never regretted it...been over 6 yrs. It is painted with BM matte...which has ceramic in it. It is as beautiful now as it was when first painted. I love the fact that I can showcase other things ...art etc in my kitchen and no competition. Also if I ever want to change it is as quick as a paint brush...expense is minimal..paint only ! All in all I think it is serene as you point out . Here is one pick. Since I have a lot of high heat cooking in my kitchen..built in deep fat fryer as well as gas cook top I can definitely speak to the longevity of paint only. c ( more at this album )

I love both the glass tile and a tile combination. I wanted a hint of red. I wanted to incorporate this glass tile somehow in the backsplash.

Does the manufacturer of that tile make a field tile in one of the matte frosted colors in that sample?

Remodelfla - I was thinking that last night, maybe a frosted glass similiar to the glass tile. I'm not sure if the do. I plan to go to the tile place I got my sample from. The sample of the granite is deceiving in the bianco roma no. the glass tiles I have don't work at all! Its has hints of beige in there as well as the grey and specks of garnet. I guess I have to start over.

I noticed in your other thread that a lot of people thought plum would work. Colors are so hard on-line and I'm not sure I understand what you are saying about your granite, but what about something like this? (It comes in 1"x1" as well.)

What I was referring to was the plum paint color. I really like the tile you sent. I'll have to send for a sample.

I think the 1x1s will look good. The granite strikes me as more calm than busy. (Because you don't want busy granite with busy backsplash.)

which is what i'm planning to do. I don't want a busy backsplash to take away from the granite.

boxerpups - I figured you were a boxer lover ~ hence the name. Roxy is a very over energetic fun loving boxer... in all honesty, She's CRAZY! but we love her. She's the only 80lb female boxer I know. oh well! = ok so tile love the second and third choice. Do you have a link where I can find them?

How old is Roxy?

Because once they hit about four they really calm down.
And by 6 you will think you have an old coon-hound for
they nap often, By 11 you will think you own an old cat.
And always they will be sweet as pie.
They need firm training because they crave a leader.
Enjoy her.

NOw to tiles...
I can not personally recommend any of these below companies.
If you are DIY than buying tile from any of the below
will probably be okay. Otherwise you might search
locally for a tile expert and try to get the tile
through him. Sometimes local people have access to
cheaper prices, close outs or sales..

Best of luck, I love those sparkles. I bet Roxy likes
them too.

Honestly, picking the backsplash has been the hardest part of our kitchen remodel journey. You wouldn't think it should be this hard, but for us it is. We lived with the kitchen as is...with no backsplash for months now. In a way it has been good. It's helped us learn what we like and what we don't like. I didn't want to rush this last design piece. boxerpups - thanks for the links. I'll take a look at them and hope to find something I like. I went out today and no luck on finding anything I really like.

By the way, Roxy is going to be 3 in July. We have been told that she will calm down as she gets older, we could only hope! As for the training I feel like we failed. We've tried training classes, but never were firm on her a continous basis. Her face just makes you want to give in to her, now we think it may be too late. She knows who her master is and that's the DH!
