hot tub seating QUESTION. pros/cons to full circle vs 3/4 seatin

They just put the rebar in our pool and hot tub today. We were wondering why the hot tub seating is only about 3/4 the way around the hot tub. The lack of seating is on the side where the pool is. We'll have 2 spill-overs into the pool, but that shouldn't prevent people from sitting there should it?

I would think we want as much seating as possible, just in case. Is there a reason why you wouldn't want the seating to go all the way around?

Did get a response from PB just now. He said that seating is horseshoe shape due to drain spacing. Drains must be 3' on center per code.

I'll get clarification as to what this means, but I thought I've seen hot tubs w/ full circle seating before. Maybe they were bigger than ours.

Stupid, stupid, stupid... the new code and the fasct that your PB did not inform you of this during the design stage. My PB put the two drains on the bottoms of the sides, therefore getting the required 3 feet of space between them. If you want the extra seating, and why wouldn't you, then have him do this. The disadvantage to this is that in order to fully drain the tub, you have to manually do something to suck out the last 2 or 3 inches of water. And the drains do not suck up anything that is not floating w/in the water column, so you have to vacuum the tub floor more often to get rid of the heavy dirt.

Donna, Um, every whirlpool I have ever heard of is also available just as as a soaking tub... If it's going to be your tub, go sit in the tubs (yes, the whirlpools! :)) and decide which one feels best. That was my criterion. Sit in them and then get your favorite one made as a soaking tub. (after checking step-in heights, since it will be used as a shower too) As I said, Maax Melodie and Palace felt the best by far to me, but everyone's different (I've heard the Palace is pretty popular with folks who can fit a 6' tub in). Also, if you can fit 6' in, try the Toto cast iron 6' tub. If after all that the Porcher Ardennes is the one that feels best, go with that. I'm sure they'd have a way to help you make an alcove situation for it. If the Neptune feels best, go with that (again, check the height wrt using it as a shower). So your assignment is to go to the stores in Chicago, step into the tubs, sit in them, and decide which one feels best entering and lounging in. Then report back :)

We were lucky in that our plumber's prices were right in line with what I found online. However, I think there is something to be said for maintaining the goodwill of the plumber (he's not exasperated if bits and pieces are missing, or other issues due to delivery), as well as potential warrenty type issues. Aditionally, our builder uses a local guy, and in this small town I'd call him if we had plumbing issues 4, 5, 10 years down the road- he knows his work, he can fix it back up, and I I'd rather not leave a bad memory. I also find it much more effective to go park myself in a store if there is a problem rather than deal with people online (if a part happened to fail down-the-line). Now, what this may be worth is up to you, and which items are worth potentially annoying the builder and/or plumber vs. other things you may want to do differently in your build.

Oh, no! Lots of offices still keep paper files! Some are required to. Yes, for hanging files you need the aparatus they hang from and Pendaflex or similar folders. The rails come in lots of lengths, but you might need to customize. Just make sure they're well screwed together or they can be a nightmare. If you're planning on hanging cookbooks, however, you probably need something stronger that's built into the drawer. As an alternative, you could get dividers in the drawers, and put rails in just part for actual files, and just stand the books spine up in the drawers. I used to sell books and kept travelling stock in milk crates that way. They're fine, as long as they're in tightly enough not to slop over. You can always put in a can or two as bookends when there aren't enough books. They make all kinds of accessories for file drawers. Besides hanging folders, there are box folders with wide bottoms and either open or closed sides, multipocket files, etc., and pencil trays, clip rails, and a bunch of stuff I can't remember. Some of them are a little harder to find, but they're out there. I think you should get six stools. :) Five for the island, and one (or two!) to squeeze in with. :) They do make folding ones...

As far as cleaning is concerned, I'd recommend either 1) not roasting any meats in this oven, or 2) coming to terms with the fact that the oven will never look brand new again. Honestly, if this is your only oven, I'd do the latter. It doesn't really affect the functionality of the oven, if it permanently develops a bit of a patina over the years. I fully understand about the complication of storing different baking sheets. They are such an awkward shape. Even if you don't have small kitchen, that can pose a challenge. If you are doing a full remodel, it would be a good idea to explore, whether you can install toe kick drawers. My contractor thought that this was a really tacky idea. But when everything was said and done, even he admitted that it is the perfect place to store baking sheets. The Miele Speed Oven is a versatile and compact oven. If space is at a premium, I wouldn't hesitate recommending it. The fact that you now only have a single appliance for all your microwave, baking and roasting needs does mean you'll have to occasionally plan your cooking more carefully. And there'll inevitably be compromises. But that's always true when working around the limitations of a particularly compact kitchen.

I am in Texas and don't have a clue about codes, but here is my spa, with 360 deg seating and 2 drains.

I asked our builder about circular seating when we were building. He said they liked to use a horseshoe shape to allow for a larger foot well and more leg room. They determine the number of desired seating spaces and then build the spa large enough to accomodate an open space.

goyom: what are the dimensions of your hot tub? Ours is 6ft in diameter from inside of coping to inside of coping. I wonder if that is too small for them to do what you have here...

Our diameter is 6.5 feet from inside coping to inside coping.

Seats 4 adults quite comfortably. ;D
