Sew Whats b-day block pics from Feb

IÂm sorry it has taken me so long to post this picture. I have not put the blocks in any order, they are just randomly placed on my design wall. This is the first time IÂve posted a picture, so I hope it works. In any case, here are my BEAUTIFUL birthday blocks!!!

I asked for African prints of animals, plants, things you would find in Africa. I said bright colors are great.

Give yourself a pat on the back, too, Mary. Sounds like we have some very busy quilters here! It seems like every year we have lots of January and March birthdays in the groups. I wonder if those are months that have an ususually high number of births -- or if it is just special for quilters -- or for quilters who sign up for the Birthday Block Exchange? LOL The quilt guild that I belong to had a lecture by Leah Day last evening and I had a full day class with her today. Interesting! I think everyone knows about her web site where she shows how to do much of her free motion quilting. If you don't know about it - take a look. You can do a search for her name and will find it. I had three squishies in my held mail when I picked it up a few minutes ago - one from my other group and two terrific penguins. Vasu used a pieced pattern that I have never seen. I love it and will be making more for sure. Thanks for the extra fabric also, Vasu. Lola sent a wonderful hand appliqued block featuring an adorable penguin with his wide eyes rolled up to the sky. Thanks for that pattern and the extra cloth, Lola. I don't know where you gals are finding all of the unique patterns, but they are super!! I'll post pics again when the last four have arrived. I do not have any idea how I'm going to put them together. On one hand, I think if I put simple sashing between them it could highlight each square. On the other hand, I have seen some interesting sampler quilts with flying geese or diamonds or other patterns in the sashing that seemed to tie it all together as an eclectic quilt top. Let me know what you think!

Your blocks read red shashing to me. You could do the corner posts in pinwheel,nine patch. Then I would put a narrow black border and a 5" outerborder. If you decide to do a fancy shashing I would first border each block in a 1-1/2 frame. Then I would make my diamonds or flying geese in the bright colors with black on the sides. This would make the diamonds or geese float in the shashings. This just my 2 cents. I'm sure others will have better suggestions.

Each member came through with great blocks in great colors...hope you can display the quilt in your living room or den. What a great conversation piece!!!
I just posted on the March thread that the #1 month butterly blocks will be posted soon...must rely for now on help from busy husband....sorry sooooo late!!!
