Well,at the Texas Roadhouse anyway!He ate the biggest steak they ever made there. 80 oz...yes EIGHTY! And a loaded Baked Potato,Caeser Salad,ice cream,3 or 4 rolls and 3 big glasses of beer.It was his birthday and our boss took us and some people from work out for supper.The guys bet him he couldn't do it (they all know he's a BIG eater) so he tried it.I actually had no doubt,I've seen him eat.LOL! He gets his pic on the wall and a free T-shirt.He was so proud of himself! LOL!

That's a lot of steak!!! Give him a pat on the back for me,well,maybe not a big pat!I'd hate for that to "reappear".LOL Did he have a certain amount of time to finish it?

No,no amount of time,but he finished it in about an hour and a half.That's with everybody chatting the whole time.But he said if he'd have eaten fast,he wouldn't have gotten it all down.It was so funny,all the wait staff kept coming to see who got the big steak! It didn't even look like a steak,looked like a big roast! LOL!

Well apparently I had my 15 minutes of fame - but does it count if you didn't know about it at the time? I was at my local nursery/garden center near my home. It's family owned and I've been shopping there for nearly 30 years. One spring morning last year I was there checking out holly bushes when a reporter for the Philadelphia ABC affiliate asked if I would mind being filmed for a short interview about the nursery. I agreed and was thankful that I wasn't wearing my normal gardening attire of worn out blue jeans and a dirty T shirt. I had been to the dentist earlier so I even had on some make up. But most importantly I figured that they'd interview several customers and pick the best one for the news report and I was absolutely confident that it wouldn't be me! I did notice them filming other customers so I was sure I was safe but I did ask when it was going to be on TV. The reporter told me that the item would air either that evening or the following evening during the 6 pm news. Well I looked at both shows and didn't see anything but a week later I started getting phone calls from friends telling me they had seen me on the Sunday morning news show. So there it is and I missed it.

Are you kidding me? He hopes she dies giving birth? Calling her horrible names, thowing out your 15 yr old son and wanting to throw out the pregnant 16 yr old? Sorry but your husband is a real A**HOLE. Don't get me wrong, I have issues in my home but my problems seem like a walk in the park compared to what is going on in your house. We don't know the whole story but I just can't help but feel terrible for your daughter. While it's unfortunate that she became pregnant at such a young age, it's done and she has to deal with that. She will need you. Why would you even think about putting her out on the streets? Why would you even allow your 15 yr old son to be put out? I'm assuming that you probably have had a lot of issues with the teens and your husband doesn't know how to deal with it so he just wants to kick everybody to the curb. Those are your kids and you just don't give up on your kids! Somebody needs to leave but I don't think it's the kids. I'd make DH leave or I'd pack up my kids and get out of there!

lynnski, you've given me a great idea. Our kitchen, dining area, and LR are essentially one big room except for the pantry wall that separates the kitchen from the LR. If you look at the third pic from the top you'll see a little bookcase built into my cabs where I keep cookbooks. This end of the cabs faces, and is only a few feet from, the dining area. I've thought those cookbooks don't look right; DH says they look "junky." Anyway, I put the biggest Chinese horse in there all by himself, with the blue Chinese box you see in the cookbook photo underneath him, with only one very low shelf. He looks great, and carries on the living room feeling into the dining area. Only questions I have are that there's not much contrast between him and the oak bookcase, and also it might look a little stark. I'll post a pic on a new thread when I can get one. I'm thinking the cookbooks (I keep them neatly) will transfer their "junkiness" to the top of the cabs if I put them there, and they're also not tall enough. Don't think we can afford to put an extra row of cabs up there though. Thanks for your ideas. The Chinese horse looks very much at home. summiebee, you're right about the view. I wanted the house to have as little demarcation between the inside and outside as possible, with a glass wall. Didn't turn out that way -- builder convinced us that with our high winds we'd never be comfortable -- but he also put the windows higher than we wanted, and one expense we're going to undertake is to find a way to make the view windows bigger. They're 8x5 now, but we're going to put in non-operating glass doors or something instead. Thanks again, all.

Husband ordered 15 inch deep upper Ikea cabinets-- too deep??

We have 15" deep uppers on one side of our Kitchen with standard depth base cabinets (24"D) and counters (~25.5"D) - we have no issues and I don't notice them when I'm working in front of them - and we're a tall family (I'm 5'10" - the shortest!) We have 12" deep uppers on the other side of the Kitchen and I wish we had gone with 15" deep on that side as well! I work primarily on the side with the 15" deep uppers (our Prep & Cooking Zones). Regarding the depth - it should be 18" from the bottom of the light rail to the finished counter so standard small appliances will fit under the upper cabinets. Most countertop small appliances (mixers, coffeemakers, etc.) are designed to fit with an 18" backsplash. If you want to go higher, consider whether you can reach the cabinets (as was mentioned earlier). I probably wouldn't go much higher if you plan to sell in a short time. Lily'sMom - IKEA uses a rail system for mounting cabinets.

Five pounds of steak. I can put away the groceries when I need to but don't think I could do a five pounder. Hope he enjoyed it. Sounds like you had a great day.

I just noticed a Texas Roadhouse not too far from me and was wondering about it. Some friends of my sister go there frequently. Was just looking at the menu but geez, I can't imagine a place serving ribs without cole slaw! What's with these Indiana companies??? :)

Congrats to your husband! How did he feel once he got home? lol.

We're going there today. Cynic, the restaurant is really good. I always eat a hamburger though. lol.

They have a good children's menu also.

We used to have a place like that in the big city that offered if you could eat it it was free, I can't remember the size of the steak for sure, but thinking it was a 52 oz? I can not imagine 80!!! LOL

I could eat an 80 oz. steak...but it would take me a couple of weeks. Unbelievable! I'm glad I don't have to pay your grocery bill.

We love to go to the Roadhouse...best Peach Marqaritas in Texas! LOL!
They do have a good menu..I don't like coleslaw,so don't miss it.But their ribs are to die for!
The cost? They charged it as 3 -24 oz steaks,so it was around 75 bucks.Birthday present from his boss.He doesn't normally eat that big of a steak or we'd be broke! LOL! But he is a BIG eater.Just the other night he had 6 PB sandwiches 'cause he was really hungry! I don't know how he stays so skinny,I really don't.

Now that's a LOTTA steak! WOW! Usually, if you're able to finish it, they give it for free! That's quite an accomplishment, he shoulda got a trophy or something---LOLOL!!!

I was in a restaurant once where someone was being served a huge steak, not as big as this one. What I wondered was how you could cook it? Was it very rare on the inside?

He said it was the BEST birthday! LOL! He lives to eat,doesn't eat to live....
It was VERY rare (translated as RAW in the middle).I couldn't have eaten it.
We asked if he'd get it free if he ate it....no...but he gats a T-shirt and his pic on the wall.That tickles him,he's teling everyone they have to stop and see his pic.It won't be up unti Tuesday thugh.So if you're ever in El Paso,stop at the Roadhouse,the one on the Gateway,and see his pic!

This sooo reminds me of the movie "Great Outdoors" and John Candy trying to eat the steak so everyone would get a free dinner...it was priceless!!

There a show on I think the Travel Channel, where the man goes to these restaurants and eats these enormous amounts of food in a certain period of time and gets a Tshirt and his name on the wall when he does it.
